Why is a lady on my train setting her hair on fire?

Sprogonthetyne · 18/02/2025 09:29

She's sat with a lighter setting the ends of her long hair on fire, then putting it out. No idea why, is this a thing? The whole train stinks if burnt hair and I have exchanged puzzled looks with several other passengers.

OP posts:

Because she’s a feral idiot.

LookingAtMyBhunas · 18/02/2025 10:11

Have you done anything OP??

As asked by someone else, is it braided hair?

Ddakji · 18/02/2025 10:13

God, why are British passengers so FEEBLE! At the very least she is being anti-social

Redrosesposies · 18/02/2025 10:13

Throw some water on her

beadystar · 18/02/2025 10:16

We did that for split ends. You do this in your bathroom, not a train carriage! People have lost all clue how to behave and the stench must be foul. I'd call train security in case she's unhinged and playing with a lighter.

In my country she would have an entire gathering around her by now.

I am assuming she is sealing her braids.

That happened to me one too! Nice to know I’m not the only one 😁

I didn't even realize what had happened.

I heard this strange noise, right by my ear, like a crumpling sound. 😂
Next I got a whack across the side of the head, by the person across the table.
Then, I got the smell....

I am very cautious of candles now, as I am sure, so are you 😀

BigSkyDreams · 18/02/2025 10:23

My first thought was mental heath but I don't know the first thing about trains, however this is incredibly stupid and dangerous to do on the train.

It must smell rank, hate the smell of burning hair.

I accidentally set someone's hair on fire once in school chapel. I was trying to light a candle and someone in the pew in front of me had used way too much hair product and ... well, thankfully it was only minor and she was fine but it was like tinder sticks briefly. Was so scary.

margeyoursoakinginit · 18/02/2025 10:25

Do you have train guards?Find them immediately and also ring the number pp has posted. At the very least she needs to be kicked off the train. Have you spoken to her?

zingally · 18/02/2025 10:36

Any more updates OP? What a bizarre thing to do in a public space!

Well, she’s anti-social as fuck and should be booted off the train.

People in Britain have no idea how to behave in public anymore.

I had no idea either until my friend sitting opposite said Your hairs on fire! I’ve been very careful with candles in restaurants ever since (happened year’s ago but I’m reminded anytime there’s a candle plonked on a table (I blow it out or have it removed).

My hair was crispy afterwards so I can’t see it being good for this woman, and any kind of playing with lighters should be reported if possible.

SlashBeef · 18/02/2025 10:45

Sealing braids? Not the appropriate place to be doing it though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/02/2025 10:47

I hope @Sprogonthetyne has reported this.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 18/02/2025 10:48

Rank - burning hair stinks and I'd be worried someone who thought that was appropriate behaviour on a train was unstable and/or possibly an arsonist.

Whatisthisbs · 18/02/2025 10:51

Missing the point of the thread completely, but burning your hair to seal split ends? What! How? And more to the point, how did I never know this was a thing!🤣🤣

Normallynumb · 18/02/2025 10:52

Jesus!
Hasn't anyone spoken to her? I would've
Hope she's not sat next to someone with hairspray
How very British. " nothing to see here" until she erupts into a ball of fire.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 18/02/2025 10:58

Tell her to fucking stop doing it it's dangerous to her AND passengers. And if she won't then yea, absolutely pull the stalk (do they still have them)

Alondra · 18/02/2025 11:00

Honestly? I'm WTF? I've no idea if to take this post seriously or not.

🤐

bluesatin · 18/02/2025 11:02

I can remember hairdressers doing this. It makes a foul stink. It surprises me how people are happy to do personal grooming in public. I remember sitting on a crowded train once as the woman across the table from me plucked her eyebrows.

Newfoundzestforlife · 18/02/2025 11:03

People are weirdos, they treat public transport like their living room, feet on seats like its a coffee table, picking food out of teeth and now this...the degradation of society continues 😑

THIS

People shave in the saunas/steam room at my gym !

NOT socially acceptable AT ALL

As asked by someone else, is it braided hair?

I'm assuming it is. It's a normal way to seal the ends although not on a train. It's not a MH condition, as suggested, unless she is actually deliberately setting fire to her hair.
