Things that irritate you irrationally

People who use their phones in the cinema

When links to websites don't work

When companies only have email addresses and then no one responds to your email

When videos on tiktok or Instagram are dragged out over 5 videos when one would suffice

How service station drinks are 3 times the price!

People ( as in my Mum ) who stop in shop doorways on the way out to put things in their bag or look at the receipts....

HRTQueen · 20/02/2025 13:05

nookmiles · 20/02/2025 08:52

Yes!
And also people (again, usually men) who put their hand on or around the passenger seat headrest when reversing!
In 20+ years of driving I've never felt the need to put my hand there when reversing!

oh yes that is very very annoying

if both done at the same time 😡😵

CrushingOnRubies · 20/02/2025 13:11

Got a letter through the door yesterday saying that they're changing the bin day.

So it's yet another thing to think about until I get into new routine. And now bin night is the busy night with clubs and things

When I was in sixth form I had a part-time job and worked with this older guy, must have been about 50-odd. One day, he somehow managed to crowbar the staff room conversation onto the subject of women’s moods (yes, he was a delight) and very seriously decided to explain to all of us younger staff members what ‘menastration’ was. He was adamant, when I corrected him, that it was ‘menastration’, and not, as we all already knew because we were older than 12, ‘menstruation’. Still makes me chuckle. Male over-confidence can be fascinating to watch.

It is the male over confidence that makes it all the more irritating!!

Same when someone states something that is incorrect and you KNOW that they’re wrong but they’re so adamant. Bonus points for if they google it and prove themselves to be an idiot when they find out you were indeed correct (usually followed by a strop) 😂

Xatz63 · 20/02/2025 14:02

I enjoy watching different food recipie ideas on you tube and so sick of the talking just get to the ingrediants and how to cook it !
Another is true crime documentries when the narrator says in a grave tone "so the victim made a call for help " then I get a picture of a phone - Yes I can get the idea I know what a phone looks like this is not my first day on earth

Immo8 · 20/02/2025 14:04

When you ask someone a question that has two options e.g. "do you fancy going out for a pizza or shall we get a curry" and they respond with "sure, sounds good".

Hate it! 😫

DilemmaDelilah · 20/02/2025 17:15

@Immo8 even worse - after that response you try to pin them down to their preferred choice and they say 'either is good. I'm not bothered which'. Well if that's the case we might as well not bother going out then! You can have beans on toast instead!

Most things since hitting 43.

Wait till you're late50s .. you'll find even more stuff that irks you in the coming years.😁

For me, it’s opening a box of pills on the side with the leaflet. It’s completely irrational, but it fills me with rage!

theDudesmummy · 20/02/2025 08:42

Oh, and when DH says "born up a tree", for Bon Appetite. He's been doing it for 20 years and presumably still finds it amusing.

I hear you!. My partners phrase is "cheers big ears" if you hand him anything to eat, I could quite easily punch him!.

A family member is a pharmacist, and he told me the leaflet is at the end of the box with the use by date/batch number etc. If you open the other end, you can access the pills without the leaflet being in the way.

CatteryCatss · 20/02/2025 21:27

You’re a lifesaver @HeartandSeoul!

You’re a lifesaver @HeartandSeoul!

The leaflet impacts the weight distribution, which tricks people into thinking the medication is that very end (apparently!). We then open the box at the ‘wrong’ end, to then be faced with the leaflet. This is done to encourage us to read it.

However, I try to not read the potential side effects, as you can guarantee my mind will play tricks on me, and I will end up ‘experiencing’ most of them 😁.

Oh hell, yeah!!
I talked myself hoarse during the election last year, calling various candidates liars etc! Hate the saturation information… had to turn tv and radio off!
Glad it’s not just me who talks to the tv😁

guestusername · 21/02/2025 12:46

Am only on page 2 of the thread but I need to get this out now!

  • The ITV3 adverts with the walk in baths/showers. Who the fuck walks away from the bath/shower and looks at it like that??
  • The incessant head nodding of the contestants on The Apprentice. I get a slight nod of the head to show understanding but these idiots are something else 😤
  • People who drive with their hands and 10 and 2 and feed the steering wheel through their hands. I know that’s how we are taught to drive but it drives me nuts that you’re doing it to pull out of a parking space and taking 10 times longer than it would take if you just did it “properly”, you know, like every other driver on the planet does!

Off to read the rest of the thread before my blood pressure goes off the scale 😂

Opening the wrong end of a packet of tablets and getting the stupid leaflet in the way.

I will die on this hill.

Sends me raging.

Open it from the left. Apparently the leaflet is on the right of the box as most people are right handed

unnecessary reverse parking

How do you mean "unnecessary"??

I open from the opposite end to the one with the codes/use by date on, which is usually the end with just the drug name/brand. The instructions leaflet is always in the way and it's so annoying. If I opened the other end, I'd risk tearing/losing the batch code and use by date which is something I'm pretty strict about checking and keeping as I've been given out dated drugs several times and once I had a bad reaction to a drug and A&E wanted the code of the packet I'd taken so that they could order the batch to be traced and checked.

You can still properly "feed" without all the jerky niggling movements. Advanced driving protocol is to keep each hand on it's own side of the wheel, so you still "feed" but it's more of a sweeping movement rather than a short jerky movement. And you don't have to "cross" your hands. Benefit is that you always have both hands "touching" the wheel at all times, however loosely.

Into a space in an empty car park.

onto their driveway but they live in a cul de sac

i appreciate this is a niche irritation.

Reverse parking actually gives you better maneouvrability and makes it easier to do a "perfect" park in one go whereas driving in usually means the car's back end isn't straight so you have to go forward/back a couple of times to straighten it, unless the space/drive is a lot longer than a car length.

When parking parallel to the kerb on a road, by driving in, you're almost certain to either mount the pavement with your front wheel or scrape it on the kerb, whereas with a reverse park, you wouldn't, thus reducing wear & tear and damage to your wheels, allows, suspension parts, steering rods, etc.

Reversing into a drive or parking space also means you don't have to reverse out which is usually more dangerous due to lack of visibility of cars/people behind you. If you reverse into a space, you have better view of people in or around the space or drive before you reverse.
