"Hopefully, as the U.K. seems generally in favour of supporting Ukraine then Reform will lose some supporters with their approach - at least he's telling us what he is and I just hope folk listen!"

4 in 5 Brits say supporting Ukraine more important than maintaining good relationship with the US.

But you will see posters on MN essentially arguing that now isn't the time for principles.

It seems to run on very similar to blaming Ukraine for the invasion - 'poking the bear' by wanting sovereignty & self determination etc.

Ignore that post. Shame on me for trying to do two things at once.

20% think its more important for the UK government to maintain good relationships with the US.

48% think its more important for the UK government to support Ukraine

(Neither 14% Dont know 18%)

In all my life, Britain has never been remotely close to Russia.

And we sure as hell ain't gonna start now.

If Farage is hitching his wagon to that train, then Reform will fail. As I said, this is the miracle the Tories must have been praying for. Let's see if Kemi can use the power she has been given (bet she doesn't)

BIWI · 20/02/2025 17:49

All this is very Orwellian and double speak, isn't it? It's hard to take it seriously - even though it's so, so serious.

countrygirl99 · 20/02/2025 19:10

Are there any pro Ukraine protests in the UK? Have to declare an indirect interest. My youngest son lives in a country bordering Russia and his ILs less than an hours drive from the border.

Evenstar · 20/02/2025 19:20

@countrygirl99 there is one in London on Saturday, I haven’t heard of any regional ones

Thanks. Can't make London this Saturday but will watch out for more.

A thought on Farage.
He pissed of Musk by refusing to let Tommy many names into Reform.
He has spent many years wanting to make the UK independent.
He generally (whether we like it or not) has the ability to sense the direction of travel and go with it.

I wonder if Reform is going to far right for him given the general feel in the country re Trump and Ukraine and he's about to jump ship.

And form yet another party? How many would that make?

Apparently he has "given up" control of Reform ... to an advisory body.

Advisory. You know. Like referendums aren't.

Doesn't GB news do that for her or is it too lefty?

Notonthestairs · 20/02/2025 21:49

The world according to Liz - we are apparently looking across the Atlantic in envy.

That's the same conference Farage has gone to. V close to Clacton.

MaybeNotBob · 20/02/2025 21:53

Tell me it's not wrong...

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/feb/20/nathan-gill-former-leader-reform-uk-wales

Former leader of Reform UK in Wales charged with bribery offences
Nathan Gill to appear at magistrates court after investigation led by Met counter-terrorism command

A spokesperson for Reform said that not only was Gill no longer a member of the party, but he had never been one. “He’s nothing to do with the party. Membership records show he has never been a member,” they said.

Material on Facebook from 2021 shows Gill wearing a Reform UK rosette while campaigning with Richard Tice, who is now Reform UK’s deputy leader. “Great to be with Nathan Gill, leader of Reform UK Wales, campaigning today,” Tice posted.

Getting a headache with all the gaslight fumes, this week.

At this Cpac event where a former UK PM and the current MP for Clacton were praising the orange one, Musk was waving a chainsaw and Bannon gave the Nazi salute

I've watched a clip of Musk at CPAC. It seems the drugs do work.

That is good news!

Agreed!
Let's hope it won't have weird, unworkable caveats attached. (Can you tell I just don't believe anything anymore?)

BIossomtoes · 21/02/2025 09:25

Hopefully not. I think the imperative to get closer to Europe again just increased exponentially.

Interesting to see that Tim Montgomerie has criticised Farage/Reform for not speaking out against Trump. He calls for them to end their silence urgently.

Bit surprised that Montgomerie is surprised by this.

Farage has now spoken out and said that Zelensky is definitely not a dictator. He added that there should be a timetable for a Ukraine ballot but that Russia was definitely responsible for the invasion.

Notonthestairs · 21/02/2025 09:38

Yes the Kremlin are very keen on any peace agreement being signed by whatever stooge they can get in. Hence the push for elections under fire.
