If you don't have children what have you done this weekend?

Just curious really - my dc are autistic so we spend a lot of time in the house and these 4 walls can feel quite confining.

Indulge me and let me live vicariously through you -what have you been doing this weekend?

Even if you think it's not exciting. Other people's day to day lives are fascinating!

Friday morning we drove to Suffolk for a work meeting and then stayed overnight. Saturday we got up and went for a 5km run. Then we went to a nearby small coastal town. Mooched around the shops - I love rummaging in charity shops and vintage places. Picked up a couple of 1970s recipes books to add to my collection. Also 3 vintage dressmaking patterns. Had lunch in a small cafe (poached eggs on sourdough toast). Then we togged up and took the dog for a bracing 5km walk along a coastal path -it was very cold. Drove 2.5hrs home and had pizza for dinner in front of a film (And Then There Were None B&W on Prime).

Today we got up and went for a 5km run. Then caught the Tube into London. Went to Fortnum and Mason to buy my favourite tea and was seduced by some red labelled (reduced) Elegant Rarebit and Stilton in a jar. Wandered up the Burlington Arcade to drool over jewellery and handbags. Then went into a London Club we are members of to have Sunday Lunch. It was delicious but so filling we decided not to go on to Liberty's as planned but came home instead.

Spent the last 2 hours catching up on some work. Now settling down with a giant cuppa of the aforementioned favourite tea to read a book. DH is still working and probably will not finish for another few hours.

This all sounds impossibly indulgent and privileged. It is! It is also all very unusual for us. It was kindly planned by DH to distract me from the fact that my 88 year old father is once again seriously unwell in hospital after only being discharged 4 weeks ago after spending the previous 6 weeks in hospital.

I spent yesterday finishing decorating my living room. 8 hours later I walked my dog around the village. Called into the pub for a coffee and chatted to some friends.

Today I've had a lazy day. Made some comfort food and binged all the BG movies.

RaraRachael · 16/02/2025 18:44

Rather boring really.
Went food shopping. Did a lot of reading.
Went on a greyhound group walk. Watched Gladiator 2 as we got a free Prime film.

bostonchamps · 16/02/2025 18:45

DH and I popped out for 'one' on Friday after work and got home at...2am. Cocktails, wine and oysters (and a few packets of pickled onion monster munch on the way home).

DH went out for the day with his lads yesterday, I met a friend for brunch and then took my sweet time making a proper bolognaise with Foals and a cracking bottle of barberesco (that I had to open for the bolognaise obviously). Had a long, long bath with my favourite F1 podcast and a martini, then ate the spag bol in bed with the dog.

Went for a run with DH and the dog this morning, then I did a peloton class and he did a weights class in our spare bedroom. Fried mortadella sandwiches for brunch, changed the bed sheets as obviously I got tomato sauce all over them last night, then slumped in front of the footie (we're both Liverpool fans so it's been an excellent day for us). I've had short ribs in the oven since 11, we'll have them with polenta and horseradish. I found a bottle of proper basque cider in the deli earlier, so might have a little glass of that for pudding.

Yesterday - AM, DH gardening all morning, I had a lie in then put a wash on, walked to local cafe for brunch, and did little food shop. PM we both went to in laws for a curry and to watch football, ended up staying quite late having a laugh.

Today - we both had a lie in! Then did some housework together and lazed about watching a cooking show. Now I'm doing a bit of work, will make dinner shortly. Tonight might do a face mask from a lovely gift set my best friend got me for xmas, paint my nails, and have an early(ish) night.

CandyCane457 · 16/02/2025 18:55

Went for brunch with two girlfriends yesterday morning, then my boyfriend and I went to bingo (we are 26 and 35- we love it!) last night. Then today we went out for a roast with my brother and parents, and have just been chilling this afternoon.

Asuitablecat · 16/02/2025 18:56

Mine are teenagers, so leave me alone.
It was my half term weekend, so I didn't do any work. At all. Didn't even put my computer on.

I woke up late and went for an eye test. Cans home and binged on sugar and a book. Had a nap. Had tea with kids then watched a film with them and dh.

Today I shopped on vinted then went for a run. Did all the little jobs I didn't have headspace for in the last 6 weeks. Played my instrument for a bit.
Now about to read another book while I'm waiting for pottery programme.

Crushed23 · 16/02/2025 18:58

On Friday night I went to a Valentine's disco with friends.

Saturday I went to a 'Galentine's brunch', then grocery shopping. Stayed in Saturday night and binge-watched Severance and texted my FWB.

Today I did a barre class, shopped for summery work clothes (see below), went out for lunch, going to get a facial later. Then tonight I'm going to do laundry then pack for a work trip next week which is in a warmer state so I get to wear my new summery work clothes.

Not a standard weekend for me (I go clubbing about once a quarter!) but I do usually fill my weekends with lots of activities and seeing friends.

I do have children, but one is at uni and the other doesn't require much looking after these days! I lounged around and did some knitting early this morning and we had a cooked breakfast, then dh and I went out for a lovely dog walk through the woods and deer park. Later I went to the supermarket and dropped ds at work. I've just cooked a big batch of spiced roast butternut squash and red lentil soup for lunches for the next few days. Played a board game with Dh and he's now cooking dinner and we both have a g&t. Might watch a film after dinner.

Not very exciting, but a nice Sunday! I'm a teacher, so have the coming week off. Dh has booked Thurs & Fri off and we're all off to visit dd at uni for a few days in York. I'm booked in for a spa session tomorrow morning (Xmas present from dh) and am having coffee and cake in the afternoon with a friend.

Actually, I feel very luck reading that back Smile

mathanxiety · 16/02/2025 19:39

I have one adult DD living with me.

Today I went to Mass first and then raided Aldi. Plans for today include Netflix (later), doing a clear out of the fridge if I feel motivated enough, and putting the slip covers back on the couch and armchairs. I'll also call my DM, do some reading, and have another go at the jigsaw.

Yesterday I cleaned the kitchen (tidying, sweeping, mopping, cleaned cupboard doors and countertops), bathroom (scrubbing, mopping), and sitting room (dusting, polishing, hoovering), dug out the litter box, took out the recycling and the bin bag, bleached the bin, filled the bird feeder, watered my many plants, washed slip covers, bedding, and clothes, put bedding back on bed and folded and put away clothes, tidied bookshelves and coffee table, replaced Christmassy candle with lemongrass one, made enough chili to last til next Wednesday, filled a bag for charity, started a jigsaw puzzle and read a couple of chapters of a book. Also browsed through Netflix to see what I might like to watch today.

SwanOfThoseThings · 16/02/2025 19:50

Here's my thrill-a-minute childfree weekend - had an eye-test yesterday morning, then visited an exhibition of vintage agricultural machinery in the afternoon - despite pouring rain, it was well-attended and interesting. Watched a film on DVD in the evening.

Had a lie-in this morning and this afternoon, walked round a few furniture shops with DH. We're going to watch an old Jonathan Creek special in a few minutes, then have a reasonably early night as I'm up for work tomorrow, might read for a bit in bed.

AnnListersBlister · 16/02/2025 19:51

No children,42 live alone.

Saturday-got up, walked dog, went to an appointment in a city an hour or so away. Came back, went for pub lunch with Mum, got home, made home made pizza (I love cooking), watched some murder-y programmes, had a nap as I had hardly slept night before. Took dog for a walk around the village in the evening, ate half of pizza.

10pm ish went to local pub, had a few drinks, came back, ate second half of pizza, went to bed.

Today, walked dog, went to pub, drove car home (had drank alcohol last night so had driven there but not back) had a bath, did some paperwork, tried and failed to bathe dog, spoke to friend on 'phone, made some food, pottered about-tried to go to the gym but nobody else there and I won't go in there alone at night (dodgy area), got home, made more food and am now posting on mn.

I sometimes go online and 'meetup' with a group of lesbians that just play a few games and chat-I might do that or I might just watch TV tonight-not decided yet.

GirdYurLoins · 16/02/2025 19:57

I was in work yesterday, it was a bit full-on, Other People’s Kids everywhere making a mess, one colleague phoned in sick so I stayed late to help lock up [and kick people out!] 🙄 Got home about 7pm, shoved a cottage pie and some broccoli in the microwave, and watched a bit of true crime stuff on YouTube. At 9pm I switched over to start watching the UFC Fight Night prelims while scrolling on MN between fights. About 11pm I switched everything off and crashed out for the night 😴

I got up about 8am this morning, and confirmed my suspicions from yesterday that I was coming down with a cold. I grumbled to myself, then stuck some washing on, made a brew, and cracked open a new box of Kleenex Balsam tissues. I watched the UFC Fight Night main card from last night (5 fights) and then dozed off on the sofa for half an hour. Woke up, got the washing set up to dry, and put the heating on. Then I phoned my dad to check in with him, chatted about bits and pieces, and promised to go round when the cold’s gone. Then sat reading my book for a bit, and watched the birds at my feeders. Happily spotted the goldfinches that I’ve not seen recently.

At 2pm, I got fed up of feeling sorry for myself, took some painkillers, shoved my swimming gear haphazardly in a bag, and took myself off for a swim. Felt better coming home, it did give me a bit of a lift, and I did manage to push myself for the 45 min session. Now I’ve got my gear ready for work tomorrow, had my tea (pasta bake), and am yet again scrolling MN while listening to the radio. I’m probably going to have a shower in a minute, and am pondering eating some rice pudding before bed. Although oooohh… I’ve a Snickers here that I forgot to eat yesterday… hmmm. I’m steadily working my way through the Balsam tissues 🤧

I suspect that’s far more detail than you were interested in…

NormasArse · 16/02/2025 19:58

Ours have grown up and left home.

Yesterday I walked the dogs along the canal for a couple of hours, then DH and I went swimming (not in the canal 😁), then had tea (we’re northern) out.

Today we walked our older dog first thing, then took the other two to the beach (about 30 minutes away). We walked along the beach to the next town, where we had lunch, then walked back to the car.

Home in time for football for DH, and I visited a friend whose birthday it is.

Bit of tidying and admin; a light tea, and now I’m getting ready for bed. We’ll be up for dog walking at 5 because I’m working tomorrow.

henlake7 · 16/02/2025 19:59

Went for a run
Did some weight training and pilates
Put my latest Vinted haul through the wash
Did some food shopping
Read a lot
Spent more then I should in Primark
Thought about cleaning the house
Did a total of 6 dog walks

Very boring and samey (esp the lack of actual cleaning!).

holidayaway · 16/02/2025 20:02

I do have children but went to a meetup social in a cafe Saturday morning and did a trail race today.

bluegreen89 · 16/02/2025 20:53

Saw friends Friday night. Me and DH spent Saturday together - went for a walk and got a coffee. Browsed record shops etc. DH made dinner and we caught up on the apprentice. Today we both worked out separately. I read my book. DH watched some sport. This evening we had dinner and did some prep for the upcoming week.

Maddy70 · 16/02/2025 21:37

Friday went for a meal with friends, Saturday went to see one of my friends DJing, Sunday , Sunday roast out

lovemycbf · 16/02/2025 22:08

My children are adults now but we went out with friends on our motorbikes for breakfast.
It was lovely but my goodness it was cold even with all my bike gear on 🥶 totally worth it though!

Blinky21 · 16/02/2025 22:44

Went to a dinner party Friday, had my hair done and dinner out with husband on Saturday. Went for a walk today and did housework before watching a film with a glass of wine

jay55 · 16/02/2025 22:50

Saturday I put a wash on, went to the cinema and watched two films. Went home and wrote a chapter of my book, watched love is blind and had a takeaway for dinner.
Sunday I got up and went for coffee and wrote some more. Bought some expensive hair conditioner and did a quick food shop in m&s.
Went home. Napped. Watched Apple cider vinegar on Netflix and had rotisserie chicken for dinner.
It's been a lovely quiet weekend doing exactly what I wanted, after the last few months of weekends being taken up with dealing with clearing my dad's house and other family stuff.

buffyfaithspikeangel · 17/02/2025 02:27

Not much!

Worked Saturday until about 2pm, had a headache so went to sleep for a bit after that
Chatted with a friend online, gamed, had a bath and watched some TV. Oh and did some laundry

Sunday I had a lie in. Went to collect my new glasses from specsavers, then went to Sainsbury's for a mooch about. Had a look at the clothes, picked up a few bits of food
Made some lentil and veg soup when I got home, cleaned a bathroom and changed bedding
Got a takeaway and watched a film
