If you don't have children what have you done this weekend?

Just curious really - my dc are autistic so we spend a lot of time in the house and these 4 walls can feel quite confining.

Indulge me and let me live vicariously through you -what have you been doing this weekend?

Even if you think it's not exciting. Other people's day to day lives are fascinating!

Met up with some friends for coffee and cake yesterday and had a look around the shops.

Last night went over to some other friends for the evening. They're excellent cooks and we ate like royalty and had a bit too much to drink. They had a real fire going, which made it hard to leave.

This morning I was feeling a bit lethargic, but forced myself out for a long walk and caught up with the latest in 'The Archers' which I enjoyed and it helped distract me from the miserable weather.

This afternoon has been lazy. I've been on MN, read a bit, watched an episode of my current favourite tv series. I ventured into the garden to top up the birds food and water.

This evening DH is cooking. We'll share a bottle of wine and I'll choose a film.

fitflopqueen · 16/02/2025 18:02

Sat morning - visit inlaw
DH dropped me about 4 miles from home on way back to walk our dog whilst he did a food shop. lazy afternoon, family over for evening meal, played cards, little tv and bed.
Slow start today, cleaned a kitchen cupboard out. DH did outside jobs with dog. Leftovers for lunch, took dog for walk this afternoon. Made a brew, sorted hotel for upcoming weekend away. Easy supper, cheese on toast. Fire lit, Watch pottery throwdown later. Lots of “surfing” in between. (Kids grown up and away)

I think people with neuro-typical kids are out and about plenty aren't they? It's not a case of needing to be childfree/childless to be able to leave the house.

I'm ill this weekend so I've done nothing, but a normal weekend is usually:

  • Friday night drinks/dinner with my husband
  • gym x2
  • dog walks
  • cooking
  • films
  • housework

Nothing too adventurous or out of the ordinary!

MaidOfSteel · 16/02/2025 18:10

I don’t have kids of my own, but I do have stepkids who are all grown up now. Yesterday, I went to visit my baby grandchild, which was lovely.

I'm disabled and any trip really wears me out so I’ve been reading & watching tv today, and helped a bit with the laundry. Nothing exciting I’m afraid, but I will say it’s good to know we can just up & go away for the night/weekend when we like as we have no ties.

Well its quite easy to picture what people with NT children are doing. All my friends have children, most of whom are NT. That's why I'm interested in childfree people because those days seem a long time ago for me.

I love these snapshots into other people's lives.

Yesterday, we went to see Better Man at the cinema (v good). Debated having a meal out afterwards but as it was the finale of The Masked Singer, we came home and had our favourite carry-out instead. Watched telly and lounged around full of food. DH played Final Fantasy, I browsed the Internet. Went to bed extremely late, dancing and singing Rock DJ.

Today, DH went to the gym. I ran for an hour, then came home to find I'd pulled a muscle. Had my weekly videochat with my mum. DH arrived then went out to get food from the local shop - an unsuccessful trip as nothing he was after was in stock. Now I'm laid up in bed with my leg elevated and DH has put on the washing. Debating limping off to run a bath, but haven't eaten anything yet so also quite hungry...

Redruby2020 · 16/02/2025 18:14

😆 Sorry to bore you, I have a DS, not with me currently and I've slept a lot, lounged around, spent far too much time on the phone. Tried to reduce the piles of laundry 🤦‍♀️ it was either going to be more of an opportunity to get out and about or the opposite which is what has happened.

Sostressedpda · 16/02/2025 18:15

I love all the responses so far.

My child is grown up.

This specific weekend i went to the town by myself yesterday, had a solo drink in the pub. Was pointedly ignored by the young woman behind the bar, and it appeared that she wanted me to be annoyed by her behaviour by her body language. I ignored her back because I'm too old for that.

Today I watched Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and marvelled over how sexy Detective Stabler is. Since 12pm.

My DH is making our dinner now.

Tomorrow I'll be going back to work

Overtheatlantic · 16/02/2025 18:19

Dropped off three bags to the charity shop, went to pharmacy and dry cleaner, lamented the state of the patio after 6 months of constant rain. Also made chicken soup and napped with the cat who refuses to try her new cat flap 😒.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 16/02/2025 18:21

Mine are grown up so I’ve done my time 😂

Friday we went out for food after work and came home to a (pretty shit) movie and wine.
Saturday Dh and I did housework together and I went to the gym while Dh lounged. I read a lot.
Today we had a lazy morning drinking coffee in bed with the dogs and then visited family and went out for lunch. I’m trying to muster up some energy to cook. Lots more reading.

Quite lazy and probably not exciting but we work really hard and really need the downtime.

LostInAMist · 16/02/2025 18:21

Catching up on housework and washing, chopping logs and kindling and topping up all the baskets in the house (central heating runs off a parkray, so no logs no hot water or heat!), dog walking, collecting feed from the farmers co-op, lugging hay down to the fields from the shed for everyone, checking on the honeybees, treating a poorly horse and making sure the others stay out of mischief, checking sheep... I'm sure I've missed something... Back to work tomorrow!

Ti7ch · 16/02/2025 18:22

Visited Nottingham, did a parkrun and had a mooch around the city. Bloody cold but loved it there

MrsPinguin · 16/02/2025 18:22

My children are grown up, one at university and one autistic, still at home.

This weekend went to Kew Gardens Orchid Festival and for afternoon tea there with DH and a walk around. Today we had Sunday lunch at home.

ValentineValentineV · 16/02/2025 18:22

I have grown up DC, I went to Nando’s and cinema last night with two of them, I visited my eldest DC yesterday afternoon. Today I went to Brighton with my DH, had lunch out and walked 1700 steps.

CalicoPusscat · 16/02/2025 18:22

Very little! Stressed about parent dying this week, money for funeral, fed the birds, went for walks, cooked for Uncle

Did some market research this afternoon...£120!
Not cooking tonight...it's a lamb tagine from Cook.
Just opened a bottle of red.

I enjoyed the last season, how about you?

PaintDecisions · 16/02/2025 18:25

Walked the dog. A lot.
Binged Game of Thrones.
Redid my gel nails.
Washing, stripped the bed, more washing.
Worked for a couple of hours earlier to catch up before tomorrow.
Now eating a Chinese.

Planning an early night, DH is deployed and it's been a while so I'm getting used to it all again.

Aah, sorry, I see what you mean.

To be honest, to hear anything particularly interesting, I think you need to hear specifically from people under the age of 30 who also don't have kids!

BigDahliaFan · 16/02/2025 18:29

2 dog walks yesterday, lunch out. Went to the cinema to see Bridget jones. Dog walk this morning then made some soup, dh helped me clear out the shed with his grown up son. Just making tea now. There’s a lot of dog walking.

TeapotCollection · 16/02/2025 18:33

We’ve watched 6 football matches since Friday evening, would normally play darts for a few hours but we’ve both got a bad cold

Wigtopia · 16/02/2025 18:33

Saturday was a trip a vinyl shop on the way to ikea, in the day then watched a film.

today was baking bread followed by baking some biscuits for post-dinner treats each evening next week.

both days we had a lie in until about 10:00 then had a lazy morning slowly cooking an egg breakfast.

not exciting, but my kinda of moochy weekend!

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 16/02/2025 18:37

I have no living children and although normally I'll do something nice I worked all this weekend.
Home now for a pizza and film.

Whu · 16/02/2025 18:38

Fri night - Bridget Jones at the cinema.
Saturday - long bike ride, gym class and a lovely evening with friends drinking and dancing
today - cleaned the house, long walk for the dogs, now chilling with a curry and some binge watching.

Hemlocked · 16/02/2025 18:39

I don't have kids. I spent all weekend packing up my belongings and stashing them in the attic, garage and shed in preparation for my flat being professionally redecorated. Can't wait!
