Someone find me a surname

Brunocatmon · 15/02/2025 22:33

I want a new surname. I'm divorced and my exh said he doesn't want me using his name.
Thinking about it for a a couple of years I don't want to use it so I'd like a new one.
I'd like a Swedish surname and it has to start with a W as I have a personalised car number plate 🙈
Preferable 2 or 3 syllables and pronunciation would help.

I've googled and got some in my list.

Anyone got any fun suggestions?

Why don't you get your dna done from Ancestry ?
That way a lot of the names in matches will be Swedish or you might find a close relative to your father .

Thank you, I have done this and found 2 first cousins through my fathers side. X

Why not use the name that the 2 first cousins have told you is his name ?

Wolf. Sounds really good, when I separated I nearly changed my name as in my then work I was asked for my full name aggressively a lot, and I was going to have Darling. As in what's your name - Minty Darling, no your full name !!

@AmateurNoun ooh yes Ms Wilde. Needs an Hotmail email address

Love this. My first name has 2 syllables so I have been trying to find a 2 or 3 syllables surname. Actually really like wolf.

They don't know either, they have the same father but neither of their mothers will disclose. We think our fathers must be brothers.

Consider the maiden names of say your maternal grandmother or another family name.

I have thought about this but my maternal grandparents abandoned my mum when she got pregnant out of wedlock ( the 50's), they were wealthy and she was a black sheep. After she died they didn't have anything to do with us.

Windsor or Wanker?

If you are trying to identify your fathers then do you have any more distant relatives noted? Amateur genealogists can use public birth and marriage records to bulk family trees and find names.

Your fathers will have birth certificates and second cousins share ancestors. Try the genealogy board here or roots.com

I'm not sure I would try to find out more about my father if he had abandoned me.

If you feel your married name is your name then just keep it. Don't let that twat tell you what to do.

CatteryCatss · 16/02/2025 10:42

Why not have a wander round IKEA and see if any names jump out at you?

It you choose that name, you can introduce yourself and tell people your surname “means saucepan” or “means sausage” 😁

OP doesn't know if her mother ever told her father she was pregnant. He may not even know he has a daughter.

My ex demanded I change my name on divorce.

I changed my name (back to my maiden name) on everything apart from the bank account he pays maintenance into. He obstinately does a manual transfer each month rather than setting up a standing order so I know he'll have a moment of grumble each and every month about it.

Twat.

Hdjdb42 · 16/02/2025 11:17

I would keep your name so you match the kids!

Chuchoter · 16/02/2025 11:36

Westerlund.

I'm just popping on here to say I've gone with Wolff. It's not Swedish but I really like it.

Thank you for everyone who took part in this the other evening x

I appreciate the update. I love it. I hope you enjoy your new surname.
Onwards and upwards.

A wolf's spiritual meaning is strength and freedom so I think that's perfect!
