As far as I can see you have to be 18, legally a UK resident, not won a Grand Prize draw in the previous 18 months, not an employee of Omaze or any connected third parties (eg contractor) or any family member of employees etc or an employee of the relevant charity,

Not sure what anyone would find surprising about that list.

ginasevern · 25/02/2025 17:07

It's a beautiful house in a beautiful place but no ordinary person would have the means to maintain it. You could soon eat through the £250,000 additional prize with council tax, pool maintenance etc until it sold. Renting it out can also have pitfalls. I wish Omaze would offer a more practical prize. Say, a nice 4 bed detached place not too far from civilisation. They could then offer a much bigger cash prize and the winner would be set for life, with a nice house too, and no hassle.

"They check more than that"

Can you show me on the T&Cs what else they check? @MinnieCoops

Far too remote for my liking, and I'm rubbish at tennis Grin

Seems terribly over valued too, land is pretty cheap there

Hahaha

Perthshire is NOT cheap! ConfusedHmm

stringsoup · 25/02/2025 19:08

Does anyone know if it includes the estate of 50 odd acres?

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 25/02/2025 19:22

BarnacleBeasley · 25/02/2025 15:42

The Omaze blog reckons it will cost you £2230 per month for garden maintenance, so I reckon you are not getting a 58 acre estate. There's a floorplan for an extra wee cottage which is not mentioned in any of the blurb, though.

That's an awful lot of money per month for garden maintenance, especially when there isn't a pool? The Country Life article said the 58 acres are mainly grazing land so I imagine possibly let to farming tenants who maintain them and the boundaries as part of an annual low rent.

Land in Perthshire isn't cheap 🤣🤣

These are the 3 blogs on the Omaze website, including the one on estimated running costs mentioned by BarnacleBeasley:
How Much Does it Cost to Run this Idyllic House in Perthshire? – Omaze UK
Take a Tour of this Idyllic House in Perthshire – Omaze UK
Welcome Home to Perthshire – Omaze UK

I read, I think in The Scotsman, that Omaze estimate the £250k will cover running costs for about 5 years. If you live in the house, there's always the option to let out the separate 2 bed cottage for some additional income, either as a long term let or for holidays.

There’s nothing to see😀.

I don’t know where this rumour comes from but it’s stuck. Every thread has a post about it. The Omaze PR team really needs to get on the case

I'd love to see a breakdown of the garden costs!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 19/03/2025 20:19

There's a program on Channel 5 tomorrow (20/03) 8pm looking at Omaze and how it operates behind the scenes. Sounds interesting.

I saw that advertised. I plan to watch it, but maybe not live, as I have people round. It will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Hopefully it will cover the legend of the 'vetting checks' too @ShyMaryEllen

I’ve read a couple of articles by journalists on omaze - definitely a legit company but the gist is the unsurprising news that nearly everyone sells the house, and they make it very difficult to know what you’re odds of winning are. Telegraph one i saw last reckoned it was about the same as national lottery and that you’d be better off not having the hassle of selling a property…

i can see it but the appeal, as with the lottery , is the idea of how your life would be in that house.

even if I lived in the big house for a few months and then did something more sensible with the money…

there have been concerns about flood risks on some of them but feel that reflects issues of climate change changing property market really.

Urghhhhhhh · 20/03/2025 07:12

I suppose it does need some scrutiny as so many people are paying money to omaze every month.

CautiousLurker01 · 20/03/2025 08:36

Am actually in love with the new house they’ve posted in London this morning. London’s south bank. Been looking at selling up and buying there as both kids will be in London and DH and I are very tied to london through work/hobbies&interests. So, I’ll pass on Perth… Gimme the Southbank house!!

Urghhhhhhh · 20/03/2025 09:32

Oooh off to look - I could make good use of a house in the south bank area too!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 20/03/2025 09:55

is there a thread to the London House please?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 20/03/2025 09:57

omg
I think know where it is

if I’m right not far from the river and near borough market

but I obviously could be wrong!

Edit im not wrong I should have carried on reading. I walked past it last month. Wish I’d paid more attention.

ShyMaryEllen · 20/03/2025 10:20

I've started a new thread for the new house.
