do people just sell them after winning. You’d have to give up work etc to go live in them?
It might be fun for a few weeks but we’re 200 miles away so what would you do with it?

Lovelysummerdays · 13/02/2025 19:04

I’m not so far away. I don’t think it’s worth four million either. There’s a place nearby at Kenmore on Loch Tay which has been redeveloped for the whoppingly rich, minimum net worth £100 million. I reckon they were aiming for that market but failed to find a buyer. It’s massively overpriced. Maybe 1.5 max.

CorduroySituation · 13/02/2025 22:57

I've been to the area a few times and it really is a gorgeous part of the world. But yes fairly remote and def need at least one driver. But with an extra £250K you could hire someone to drive you!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 13/02/2025 23:21

My parents used to live near there. Too remote for me but beautiful location.

Do you live in Scotland? We are on the east coast where it is quite dry and would use an outdoor pool a lot.

Ive never seen it go above 20 degrees on the east coast! Dry yes which is nice - but it’s never been warm enough for me to brave it swimming outdoors!

ShyMaryEllen · 13/02/2025 23:27

Does anyone know the exact location, please?

OP posts:
margotsdevil · 13/02/2025 23:57

It's very remote. 45 mins from Aberfeldy (small market town) and probably 30-45 minutes to Pitlochry (marginally larger market town). Well over an hour to Perth (nearest bigger town/small city). Also very rural driving which is definitely not everyone's cup of tea! Unlikely to have mobile reception.

However, it's stunning countryside and if you're into outdoor pursuits you would love it!

There was a thread on it yesterday with a link to location ☺️

I’d love it as a holiday pad for when I want to escape the actual Highlands! Would break up the drive to Edinburgh for John Lewis 🤣

I *reckon* it’s probably this one. Can’t wait until the reveal tomorrow - I love Scotland! [[https://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/details/scotla...

I'm happy with bedrooms not being close together, and I don't want a swimming pool to maintain.

I much prefer this to the Norfolk one.

There isn't a swimming pool.

Really not liking this one. The social space is lovely, but the bedroom area seems shoehorned in - for that amount of footprint and that price I’d want 5 beds with en suites, not bathrooms up the hall that guests (or my kids) have to share. It seems like a hugely ostentatious amount of entertaining space for 4-6people and a few pokey guest bedrooms to put them up in. And the location makes it inaccessible for anyone based down south unless they want to retire there, which would mean no friends and family visiting, as it’s just too remote.

No, huge no for me. But I won’t win it, so all academic! 🤣

MarieKlepto · 14/02/2025 02:03

I know Rannoch well. That cattle shed extension to the original house is really ugly. Practically, it's 20 miles to a basic Co-op but supermarkets deliver. There's a local primary but 20 miles on the school bus for secondary. The area is beautiful and I went paddleboarding, kayaking and actually swimming in Loch Rannoch on a nice summer day (it got to 32 degrees some years!). And yes, the bloody midges are hellish in that neck of the woods.

mmmarmalade · 14/02/2025 02:12

Haven't people realised that there's always something wrong with all of these OMAZE properties!? You only find out after you've bought the ticket and start doing your homework: it's one big tax on the gullible IMHO.

Flood risks are always worth looking at:

We aren't overly far from there (on the east coast) and we still wouldn't be tempted. I also thought it seemed overpriced but if it's an estate then maybe that makes a bit more sense.

DH and I were coveting this one more recently. Sold now but I think the pics still work. And "only" 2mil in comparison. 😁

I think most people do realise that (why wouldn’t they when it’s so obvious to you?), but buying a ticket is not a tax - it’s an option. Yes, the odds on winning are low, and no, the houses are probably not worth as much as they claim, but the winner can stay or sell, so it would always be a gain. Some houses would be perfect for me and others won’t, but would suit others. People’s circumstances vary.

it’s just a flutter, and doesn’t make anyone gullible unless they really expect to win every time.

Have you lived in Scotland? That’s way too early. Maybe July. Grew up there - I know what summer is like but shorts on with 13°C

Last 2 years it's been May, June as the hottest months.

well said. its just a bit of property porn and some fun.

See, I prefer it this way around. We don’t do anything in our bedroom except sleep and have sex, so I always think of it as a waste of space when I look at listings and see cavernous bedrooms, filled with pointless items of furniture there simply to cover up the floor space (when was the last time anybody actually chillaxed on a gilted Louis XV chaise longue facing their bed, or sat wistfully gazing from their bedroom window from an overstuffed leather armchair in the corner?) Would much rather have entertaining space and living space which could be separated off into e.g. a library space, a gaming space, a wine nook etc.

9GreenBottles · 14/02/2025 10:31

I have always longed for a house with a courtyard, and the size of this could have been an amazing space, but I think it’s a bit blah. It makes me think it’s been inspired by Eliot Noyes House but not as well well thought out.

The master bedroom could only really fit a 5ft bed if you want bedside tables with the way they’ve designed the dressing area, and you’re not going to be able to sit up in bed to see the view over the loch which is a bit of a waste of an opportunity.

The bathrooms are all in weird places and there’s a lot of corridor space. You have to go through the laundry room and boot room to get to the bedrooms unless you go via the courtyard or all the way round the perimeter. All it would need is a corridor where the bathrooms in the boot room and laundry room are. One benefit would be that you would get your 10,000 steps a day in very easily.

I’ll be spending a lot of the £250k on remodelling if we decide to live there rather than renting it out or selling.

greatfrontage · 14/02/2025 10:37

I wouldn't want to seem ungrateful, but if they could bump it up a tiny bit, I'd much rather this:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/152786093#/?channel=RES_BUY

(which REALLY makes their house seem wildly overpriced - looking at what else is on the market it seems more like it should be £1.5 or so.)

Just found this thread. Nah I’m going to save my money for more entries to a future house that I really want! I really don’t like this one at all, I’d have preferred it if they’d just done a smaller, more sympathetic extension to the original house and filled it with candles, books and armchairs. It’s all a bit cold and sterile for me.
