Help me improve my bedroom (pics)

I need some help. I've recently decorated my bedroom and whilst I'm really happy with the dark black/grey wallpaper, I feel everything else lets it down.
I need to keep the furniture and headboard sadly as can't afford to replace. But I'm after some tips on how to make it look more cosy and warm it up a bit. Please help!!

I'm happy to paint the pink walls but don't want to go grey, I want to head away from grey is possible. What other colours would match the wallpaper? I love that wall

Is the wallpaper green background or black? Hard to tell from the picture. If it is green I'd paint the walls a complimentary green or another pink, one that's a definite pink not the pink hint you currently have.

Moier · 11/02/2025 14:31

Dunhelm kingfisher ( natural history museum) absolutely gorgeous .Velvet feel
Embroidered.
Look at reviews.
Teal/ bit of orange) goes with black.

Onrepeat3milliontimes · 11/02/2025 14:32

It's this one, it's called black but definitely has grey in it (altho I wanted to avoid grey is possible)

I think you need to go dramatic to match the wallpaper rather than one brave wall and the rest very neutral

whatapalarva · 11/02/2025 14:46

Without changing the walls, windows or decor you can warm up the space with accessories. I would introduce some warmer tones eg. brushed gold larger frames over the bed - white frames look cheap. Chunkier brushed gold lamps at the side of the bed and a larger gold mirror above the dressing table. Even a decorative mirror fixed to the wall above the dressing table or a full length mirror - Dusk, Daals and The Range are my go-to online places. Also invest in a more full duvet, plumper pillows and warmer shade of duvet cover with a throw or bedspread at the end with contrasting colours to match the walls. Warm up the curtains with a colour to match your feature wall too. I agree with another poster to use a warmer colour than white to paint the furniture.

Survivingnotthriving24 · 11/02/2025 15:03

I hate to say it but it's the wallpaper, feature walls are very dated and tacky looking.

I'd either:

Take down the wallpaper, paint the room a more neutral plaster pink instead of the ballerina shade which is a bit twee for an adult's bedroom.

Wallpaper the rest of the room and add in some metallic accents and a splash of a feature colour. The problem with this is your wardrobes will be quite stark against the wallpaper.

Artwork above the bed instead of photos, taller bedside lamps, more soft furnishings for your bed.

tinkersfig · 11/02/2025 15:06

Would you brave doing the whole room dark? Then keeping the bedding light and have some dramatic curtains, cushions and lampshades?

Quietnowplease · 11/02/2025 15:07

Don't paint the window white!! No more white.

The problem is that you're trying to match everything to the wallpaper but aren't willing to change the things...

Classic design mistake - base everything around the cheapest thing! (In this case a bit of wallpaper)

If you can't change the big expensive stuff - furniture, bed head etc - you need to match the walls to THAT stuff.

Always choose the most expensive thing first - bed, sofa, wardrobe, fancy rug - and do walls last. There are usually a v limited number of big furniture items you both like and can afford. There are a billion paint and standard wallpaper pappens (unless you're buying hand painted silk wallpaper of course).

I would paint the pink walls and the ceiling in a dark colour to match the dark wall, skirting boards and door frame included. I promise it will make such a difference even if you change nothing else.

Why would you choose a grey wallpaper if you want to avoid grey...

Dark grey paint! Almost black. Do it op it'll look grey-t.

ValentineValentineV · 11/02/2025 15:11

Would something like this go with the wallpaper?

I’d take out anything grey, baby pop pink, glass or gold.

change the curtains to a natural bamboo roller bling. Paint the window frame white.

keep the white duvet cover and layer over a large cotton bedspread in a textures print. Look at La redoute. I’d go for. Retro chintzy print, in dusty roses this block print stuff is lovely. https://www.iansnow.com/products/peapod-and-pink-cotton-quilt?variant=32134337396851&country=GB&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=21831215244&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=&utm_term=&trueroas=21831215244&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAqgaDobyqFDXa8IpyfyfgCnXTkGqi&gclid=CjwKCAiAh6y9BhBREiwApBLHC-kEMXUvHvXCLQcTMQvlVXB-0Pa8yyOTOkuY0tGD-pn9DJieeKYK-hoCUg0QAvD_BwE

get a wooden base lamp and then a fabric shade in a natural shade

get a few different patterned and textured cushion for the bed. Get washed linen pillow cases for the top pillows in a dusty rose colour.

Zara home
H and M home
even some Dunelm.

more patterns, more textures.

The dark wall is too oppressive and the brown window is not good.

Peclet · 11/02/2025 15:31

Dress the bed like this and with neutral/natural
wood tones looks really nice.

Take down the art.

Paper the wall behind the dressing table.

Paint the dressing table and the two bedside tables in a shade deeper than the other pink.

Paint the lamps grey.

Paint the window woodwork.

Londonmummy66 · 11/02/2025 15:34

The B&Q website shows that paper styled against a bed in a complementary shade of pink so if you want to stay pink then go for that. As it is a botanical print you could embrace the theme and go with a grey toned green paint - if you look at Farrow and Ball's website they have a section on grey green paints. If you go for pink then keep all of your accent pieces dark - see my earlier post for suggestions. If you go for green then you could add in some dark green items in a grey green shade and perhaps the odd very small pop of orange to lighten things up.

Isthiscorrect · 11/02/2025 15:40

It seems confused to me. The dark wall (the pictures are way too small) maybe some large botanical prints in gold frames?
Bigger lamps again possibly gold. Dramatic curtains. Paint the bedroom door white or another colour but it just doesn't match with the white bedroom furniture. I've never used it (frenchic) but could you paint the dressing table and bedside tables. Maybe also do something to the wardrobe doors. Like paneling and maybe inset with the same colour as the wall behind the bed.statement ceiling light - gold crystal chandelier - not too heavy.
And beautiful dark bedding or at least a dark blanket, forest green maybe? That's the colour the wall behind the bed is showing as on my phone.

SheridansPortSalut · 11/02/2025 15:46

The biggest issue is the light. Change the light fitting or, at the very least, change to warmer bulbs.

username299 · 11/02/2025 15:53

Get a large rug, new lampshades, paint the window frame white, get new curtains.

If you don't have much money, Dunelm has lots of colourful bedding etc

ERthree · 11/02/2025 16:20

You need something in there that adds joy, it is all very depressing and cell like. A trailing plant and a throw that has both colour and luxurious texture.

longtompot · 11/02/2025 16:44

I would get new curtains made of a thicker fabric and rehang them so they hang from the ceiling to the floor.
Would the bed fit across the wall where the dressing table currently is? If so, as you have such a wide set of wardrobes that are light, I'd paper the wall where the dressing table currently is in the same dark wallpaper.
I'd have the dressing table where the bed was and create a display of pictures, maybe a chair in the corner by the window with a low table and a lamp.
The white bedding is ok, but you need cushions and blankets and throws to create a cosy feel. Different textures and a mix of colours, either jewel and/or pastel would look good.
A large rug just under the bed that you can walk around on all three sides.

I googled dark wallpaper bedroom and lots of images came up, quite a few still had white or light curtains, but they were the full height of the room.

JimHalpertsWife · 11/02/2025 16:56

I'd paint the whole room (headboard wall, warobes etc) in the pale pink on the walls. Add soft textures into the curtains and linens like this

hellswelshy · 11/02/2025 17:40

I'd go with some green and gold accents. So, art work, plants, botanical print bedding or cushions, that kind of thing. I've got a picture shelf from IKEA above my bed, v inexpensive and you can prop up different framed prints to suit.

treesandsun · 11/02/2025 18:44

A throw over the headboard tucked in - in a different colour. Darker duvet cover and cushion covers. lampshades are all cheapish options that make a difference

Onrepeat3milliontimes · 13/02/2025 16:47

Progress update..

Curtains changed to black velvet
Door handles and drawers knobs painted gold
Frames above bed changed to gold and bigger

Lampshades on order to change to black.

Now I need help with the blind, Dunelm have some blackout roller blinds for £20 which is perfect for my budget! Now to choose either black, or go natural shade (cream) with a view to changing the pink to a stone colour later this year 🤷🏻‍♀️

Duvet cover will be changed after that.
