Help me improve my bedroom (pics)

I need some help. I've recently decorated my bedroom and whilst I'm really happy with the dark black/grey wallpaper, I feel everything else lets it down.
I need to keep the furniture and headboard sadly as can't afford to replace. But I'm after some tips on how to make it look more cosy and warm it up a bit. Please help!!

It’s the black wallpaper and random frames above the end that spoils it.

Ooh lovely! I think all it needs is a bit of warmth - I'd add some gold touches where you can - e.g. a mirror, as part of a table lamp etc.

I totally agree with this. Rose gold accents would look fabulous. You can change your wardrobe door handles for not much money and that will make a difference.
Paint the pink walls a darker colour to match the wallpaper.
A throw/quilted bedspread is needed with complimentary cushions.
Swap out the three pictures above your bed to a statement mirror.
Would also paint the inside of your window.

mallorytowers8282 · 11/02/2025 10:56

I think the window is fine.

I agree some nice darker coloured bedding would be nice, and some plants.

I would have all the paint work - including skirting/ceiling in the same colour. So only one colour against the dark wallpaper.

Change the photo frames to match the colour of the window. The pictures above the bed are too small so either enlarge or move.

Bedding and blind/curtain should be a deeper colour and all match with coordinating cushions.

ForestFox44 · 11/02/2025 11:29

Darker bedding and accessories are needed to match the wall paper, (lamps, stool etc), paint window frame white, change blind, bigger frames with a gap inbetween above headboard, cosy cushions and maybe a nice rug

Quietnowplease · 11/02/2025 12:23

Oh and paint the wardrobes too!

So wardrobes, woodwork, walls, ceiling, other furniture all the same colour.

At the moment you have a pink wall, a dark wall, pale woodwork, a brown door, light wardrobes making a white wall, light furniture. Making it look cheap and disjointed and bitty.

Onrepeat3milliontimes · 11/02/2025 13:12

Ok so my plan is to

  • change the lampshades to black
  • change the white picture frames to gold
  • change the bedding but need help with a colour
  • change the blind & curtains but again need help with a colour

So long as I can find the right things I can do this quite quickly then see what else I can change.

I darent paint the wardrobes or furniture as they are all pretty new and was quite expensive.

Bedding if you want more cosy personally I'd go for something really richly coloured, like this from Joe Browns. Then you could get plain velvet curtains in the deep red/pink. Room will be transformed.

Definitely needs some statement plants but looks like the light might not be great so choose carefully.

user1471522343 · 11/02/2025 13:30

Surely it’s the lighting that’s the problem here. That centre light is brutal.

Bestthriller · 11/02/2025 13:31

Paint the window frames white… and it will be a game changer

Fairyvocals · 11/02/2025 13:34

You can get special paint for UPVC - it works really well. You’d never know ours were originally dark brown.

DappledThings · 11/02/2025 13:38

I like the window frames as they are. I think the last thing that rooms needs is more white.

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/02/2025 13:46

Change the light fitting, it would drive me mad.

GameOfJones · 11/02/2025 13:53

I like the dark and the pink but at the moment the dark wall looks a bit disjointed so I'd tie it into the rest of the room a bit more. You could get some dark, floor length curtains to bring it together.

I'd also add gold touches, change the furniture handles to gold, get a gold mirror etc.

I think dark grey and pale pink goes really well with green so either so a large plant would also look nice. Or some dark grey or black curtains with a pattern on them that includes pink and green.

Londonmummy66 · 11/02/2025 13:56

I think that the wallpaper looks disjointed from the rest of the room. I agree with changing the lampshades to black - ideally try and find some with a gold lining as that will create a warm glow when lit. This sort of thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/Navaris-Black-Linen-Lampshade-Contemporary/dp/B0969PS42V?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=A2N58YCCQNSUNR&th=1

You don't need to change the curtains but should change the blind to a dark one - is there a matching fabric to the wall paper? That would tie it in a bit. If so then think about covering the stool with the fabric too - simple job with a staple gun. Then a textured dark grey or black throw on the bed and a couple of dark cushions (?same pattern as the wall paper). If you added a rug then consider a black/dark grey sheepskin to add a bit of softness and colour. You could pehaps find a small black laquer tray to sit on the dressing table and hold a few bits - something like this https://chloejadehome.com/products/art-deco-black-and-gold-square-tray?variant=41905425678594&country=GB&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOoqdVy1qZ8wiOvbIe9lOSi_CVqV4605_an3cXxjJie0DkV_1UV9kbYc

Then the whole room would look a bit more pulled together and considered.

GameOfJones · 11/02/2025 13:57

This is the sort of thing I was meaning with the curtains.

Buy some paint and paint the inside of the window frame white. It's a special paint but not too expensive.
Buy some fabric to match or at least include the pink from the lampshades. If there's also a slightly darker version in the fabric so much the better: stretch it over the headboard and staple at the back. Invest in some darker pillowcases and a snuggly throw to lay across the foot of the bed.

tinkersfig · 11/02/2025 14:13

The lamp shades and curtains need to be in the same pallet as the dark wall, then tie that to the bed. So I'd keep the white bedding and add some dark cushions.

I also think the painted pink walls need changing. Could you get a paint that's on the same tone/palette as the headboard?

Rowen32 · 11/02/2025 14:19

I think the only problem is the wallpaper, I know you're happy with it but it doesn't go with everything else. If you got lighter wallpaper I think the whole room would be lovely and not need anything else

Onrepeat3milliontimes · 11/02/2025 14:24

I'm happy to paint the pink walls but don't want to go grey, I want to head away from grey is possible. What other colours would match the wallpaper? I love that wall

Bestthriller · 11/02/2025 14:24

Would you consider getting rid of the wall paper op?

wherearemypastnames · 11/02/2025 14:25

Dark curtains is all I would think

wherearemypastnames · 11/02/2025 14:26

Since the OP loves the paper I think it's best to make her style work rather than try and change her style

mallorytowers8282 · 11/02/2025 14:29

Bestthriller · 11/02/2025 14:24

Would you consider getting rid of the wall paper op?

Jesus, how bitchy can you get?

She's just said she has recently redecorated it and is happy with it.

Why on earth would she "consider" getting rid of it just because you don't like it?

Get a grip, man.
