Should I go on holiday?

I'm loosely thinking about going on holiday.

I have never been on holiday as an adult.

I'm thinking maybe next summer maybe may or June. Not sure in that.

Going would be DD 15, Ds 11, DS 10 and myself. That will be ages at time of travel. If older DS wants to come he will have to pay for himself.

We would like to go abroad. Somewhere fun , family friendly.

It have to be all inclusive. That is a must with no negotiation. Reasons is is saves the worry on budgeting for food . My life is pretty stressful and i feel like i deserve a break from cooking and cleaning up life in general.

This would probably cost me at least 3k - 4k?

Although I would like to do this I'm also thinking is it really worth it . I'm not in work and have children with special needs so income is not the best . I would like to do it if I can. But then I go the other way and think is it worth all that money

It might be worth looking at last minute deals this year to see how cheap they can go near to the date. TUI have a late deals section on their website so if you can be flexible on airports or dates within a couple of days, you might get a bargain. Though this is not guaranteed.

Do you know anyone with a blue light card? You get a discount with some holiday companies. Or if you join some Facebook pages for Jet2 or easyJet, people often give away their rain check vouchers. I have given mine away a few times.

I got fantastic deals a few years through a company called Very Cheap Holidays who were a subsidiary of Thomas Cook.Terrible name but the lady I regularly dealt with got me amazing prices. One year I got a week in an all inclusive in Greece for £600 each less than everyone else had paid. Perhaps there are other similar companies out there now who can help you.

Thank you . Yes I know someone with a blue card. For last minute deals thing I'm not sure about that. We don't even have passports yet. I will look though.

That sort of stuff is way above it head

Premium bonds are a government savings account. You can transfer money in like a normal bank account and every month there is a prize draw with thousands of prizes ranging from a million to £25. You don't lose any money but don't earn interest either. If you use premium bonds you can separate your savings from your everyday spends and have the chance to win money too

Not wanting to derail thread but where in Benalmadena did you stay FunkyMonks? Keep looking as love Benalmadena but not sure about family hotels.

OP I would think Majorca would be perfect for a first holiday abroad for the kids. Not too far, easy in terms of English speaking, and lovely beaches. The May half term comes out expensive though. It’s a popular time to go as hot but not too hot.

Edited

Yes I was thinking something like that . Its so hard finding dates that work round school.

I think every kid should have the chance of going abroad if possible (I never did). I would say fuck it and take them if you can and aren't going to get into debt. They're all at an age where they'll probably remember it for the rest of their lives.

We had holidays with our children in cottages in this country and they have loads of happy memories. They are both grown up and still talk about the things we did. There’s nothing special about going abroad if they spend every day by the pool in the hotel grounds.

The op has specifically said she wants sunshine and for her children to experience flying. This will be special for her. Holiday cottages are lovely and I personally didn't get on a plane myself until I was 22 so also have lovely memories of UK holidays, but part of me was desperate to fly too. The op would probably be gutted if she booked a cottage and it chucked it down all week.

OP it’s going to cost you less than £300 to get passports for the 4 of you.. it’s not a huge amount at all in the grand scheme.

I think you’re absolutely doing the right thing prioritising a holiday for you and your children. Sounds so much like you all deserve it.

Oh I would not want mainland i guess that means the city? Wr would like a beach pool type holiday. I will definitely look into the disability side of it for the airport side of it. Thank you

Ha ha, it's the first time I've seen someone worried about lack of beach resorts in Spain.

Normally people assume it's a series of all inclusive resorts with nothing to do except get pissed by the pool, go to the beach and fight over chips at the buffet.

OP if you go to one of the Costas, that's the beaches. But they're also all near cities where, should you want to, could visit Barcelona, Malaga etc or smaller towns, water parks or walk along the paseo (promenade) where there's usually play parks, fun artworks and you can also often find historical sites like castles or ancient ruins.

Mainland Spain as in the main country, not one of the islands. I think you really need to do some research!!

😅 I thought it meant in the middle of the city or maybe country side away from beaches etc

Do you have a "Help to save" account? They are really easy to set up and you basically get 50% more than you put in. You can save £50 a month which soon mounts up.
