I met my younger self

I've just seen this trend originally posted by Jennaececelia on Instagram.
I love it, made me really emotional because it made me think what I would say to my younger self as I've come along way in a positive way but it has not been easy.

Here's my version below and I'd love to see other peoples versions so feel free to post them 😊

I met my younger self for coffee at 11am
she was 15 minutes late
I was just on time
I wore my hair in a pony
her hair was down and long
I had my wide leg jeans on and she wore her skinny jeans

Her eyes filled with tears, she seemed lost and unsure
I told her that her life was about to change and she would be a mum soon!
She looked up and smiled briefly
I didn't want to tell her how tough the journey here would be.

She told me she hated her job
I told her to stay strong as we take a different path and she will love it.

We hugged goodbye and I told her to believe in herself because I knew she didn't right now.

I hope we meet for coffee again soon.

@Motorhead75 You need to write! You have talent.

I think people are being really mean.

I actually got emotional writing that because personally I've come a long way since when I was thinking about my younger self.

For people to say its stupid or cringe or ick. You are the ones who don't sound like nice people.

My younger self would say ‘Don’t read sentimental internet memes.’

Well that's why we are all different because some of us like to read this stuff

How sad that this moving thread has been hijacked by dickheads. Not a chance I'm going to post one now.

Too long. It would have more impact if you condensed it to about a third of its length.

Too bitchy. It would have more impact if you gave feedback only to people who actually asked for it.

Oh dear. How sad.

If only there were other sources of sentimental claptrap available on the internet.

ThatMerryReader · 10/02/2025 09:34

This would be the conversation between me and my younger self.

  • Keep going, you are doing great.
  • I know. Who the fuck are you?
  • I am your older you, you arrogant little twat.
  • Oh sorry. Nice car.
  • I know right ?

The end.

OneLilacGuide · 10/02/2025 09:39

I just love this trend on TikTok, I’ve seen some lovely ones. I get emotional thinking about what I would say 🥲

It’s a shame posters on Mumsnet just have to be nasty for the sake of it, it’s very easy to keep scrolling.

Wellsome · 10/02/2025 09:44

To Both OP and Motorhead , your writing is good. Very good.
To Motorhead, I am sorry you’re feeling like that, and actually possibly worse? . Would you consider going to a men’s mental health support group / park run etc . Or anonymously sending the piece of writing to a men’s health group. ? I personally found it helpful. Thank you.

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 10/02/2025 10:10

I met my younger self.

I wished she would listen to me, and believe that life was worth living and happiness was in her future. That her childhood did not have to define her life. That she could find a way to stop self harming, starving herself, trying to end her life because she wanted the noise and hatred and voices in her head to stop, even for a moment. That she could find some peace.

howsthehair · 10/02/2025 06:16

Oh god, if you don't like it, don't read it! Go on another thread. What's the need to bash the people who are doing it?

My thoughts exactly.

Legodaisy · 10/02/2025 10:24

catin8oots · 10/02/2025 00:58

lol. ChatGTP nonsense

As someone who works as a writer and also has to read lots of other people’s AI generated slop as part of my work, Motorhead75s post is clearly not written by AI. Saying that just reveals your stupidity. Dismissive and unkind.

I think it was well-written and quite moving.

Yes. They just have to come and sneer, don't they? Makes them feel better about themselves. Absolute twats.

Sorry to those who posted sincerely and got mocked by midwitted dickheads. Motorhead, I found your piece moving and I hope you can feel better soon.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/02/2025 10:39

@Motorhead75, I loved your piece, and I hope you are ok.
If I met my younger self it would be in a posh and happening wine bar (I was a pretentious twat, and I drank alcohol in those days, lol). I’d tell her not to marry the fiancé I had back then as he was not what he seemed, focus on your career not trying to save a narc man who doesn’t care, and enjoy a few FWBs instead!

HotCrossBunplease · 10/02/2025 10:43

@Motorhead75 how have you ended up posting on Mumsnet? I wish you well and hope you get the support you need in real life but it seems an odd site for you to have stumbled upon with such a specific post.

MudpiesinEssex · 10/02/2025 10:45

Kay67 · 10/02/2025 00:35

@Motorhead75 that's really moving, what a fantastic piece of writing (sorry, not very good with words, just felt I had to comment).

Yes, he rather upstaged the OP!

You do realise your just coming across like a bit of a dick right? There's nothing sadder than using a MN thread you don't care about to sneer at others and boost your self esteem

Some people need to get a bloody life!

RosemaryRabbit · 10/02/2025 11:15

Opt in to pension schemes and crack on.

sageGreen81 · 10/02/2025 11:16

This is too much I can't do it. 🥺

Springiscoming112 · 10/02/2025 11:17

Wow I didn't realise how much hate this thread would get.

Thought it would be a nice way to "talk to our younger selves" in a creative writing way.

This clearly gets people's backs up 😂

These people need a talking to from their older selves.

FatAgain · 10/02/2025 11:26

I met my younger self and said “it’s all gravy baby, your life’s gonna be fab like you expect”

The End

To get back to the spirit of the thread, if I met my younger self, I think I'd just tell her to relax, stop worrying, have some fun and take some risks - and enjoy the wonderful years of the late 90s and early 00s before the world started going insane. I'm sure she'd ignore me, she thought anyone over 30 was ancient 😀
