Found drugs in my sons bedroom

Last night i was cleaning my sons room (he's on his first lads holiday) so thought it would give me chance to clean his room thoroughly because he lives like a tramp

He has a book shelf and there was a book on his computer desk so I've gone to put it back with his books and a little drug bag has fell out with white powder
At first I thought it could be cocaine but I've had my party days I know what it looks like
Yes I did stupidly dip my finger and taste a crumb of it it doesn't have a taste it's a fine white powder but tastes chalky does anybody know what it could be? I know what ketamine looks like and it's deffo not that and it isn't cocaine either so what could it be?

If your son is old enough to go away on holiday without you then he is absolutely too old for you to be cleaning his room without permission.

It's her house, she doesn't need permission. She's the parent and hopefully she will get a grip of the situation.

Personally, I'd get it tested if that's possible.

I'd personally confront him. Nothing worse than your parents knowing. It knocked me sideways when my mum found my grinder back in the day and I never touched it after that - well I occasionally will have a weed brownie once in a blue moon 🤣

What difference does it make working out which drug it is?

If you're worried he's getting in too deep with anything then it doesn't really matter which it is. They all have the potential to be harmful.

If OP's attitude is one of zero tolerance, it doesn't matter. But you can't unring this bell so I don't think that would achieve much. Booze and cigs are harmful. Education - and if drugs are being used, moderation - are key.

If the lad is going clubbing/raving and doing a big of MDMA, or a couple of lines of coke on a night out, big deal.

I would have more to say to him if I found out he was sat doing speed or ket in some dingy flat all weekend.

He's just doing what you did when you were younger. Maybe teach him what good cocaine looks and tastes like, so he knows when a dealer is taking the piss.

Am I old fashioned in my very early 30s or has the world gone nuts. OP has found drugs in her child's room and there's people saying you shouldn't be snooping. She was cleaning, yes she shouldn't have to clean up after a nearly 19 year old but guaranteed it happens its her home if she doesn't want it like a bombsite she's entitled to do a tidy round. Also to those saying he's an adult leave him to it. Do people no recognize how dangerous and easy it is to get addicted the amount of money and then debt kids can spend and get themselves into and also the mental health problems linked to drugs. Perhaps just my bad experiences in life but I would not be letting or be happy that any child or adult child of mine was doing drugs and especially that they brought them into my home

Then I was suddenly at a church with a policeman next to me. (The last bit was not real but how I felt)

I always made it clear that zero drugs would be tolerated in my house. I would ask have you ever said anything at all about what you will tolerate and what a consequence would be if you have any specific rules.

All the classical drugs taste quite distinctive imo.

New synthetic experimental drugs don’t taste of much. The easiest example of the would be Mcat which was popular about 10 years ago and legal before they banned it. That has a bit of a piss meets swimming pool smell to it, was chalky and relatively tasteless.

It could be another synthetic. They change a few spikes. Sell it again online as something. There’s so many of them and I am well out of the loop now to the drug world. So no idea what the popular ones are now. But that would be my guess.

He knows I clean his room and he's more then happy to lie on his bed on his phone or at his commie desk playing Fortnite lifting his feet whilst I hoover around him 😅

Don't bother sending it off to be tested. Wait until your son comes home, and ask him. Then, read him the riot act and tell him if he EVER brings drugs into your home again, he can fuck off and find somewhere else to live. Don't get sidetracked by him whining about you going in his room.
