Hi my daughter is joining the police next months age 19. They’ve asked her to buy ‘police shoes or boots’

Can any female police officers recommend any that would be suitable?

Thanks

A few years since I was a Police officer (male) but I wore a brand called Magnum and wore the patrol boots. For solid protective boots they are relatively comfy. At the time that was the brand most male and female officers wore. There may be better now but that was always the trusted brand and the one my force reccomended. Good luck to your family member in her career.

Don't know if they're allowed but Skechers are like walking on cushions.

They have loads of different types so there may be some that are suitable.

Magnums.

Magnums will be what they recommend, and they are fairly comfortable and lighter weight than they look. Just make sure you get decent socks and try and wear them in a much as possible ahead of going on shift.

BluebellsareBlue · 04/02/2025 20:41

I wore doc martins with a steel toecap for about the first 15 years of my service and then discovered magnums for the last 15, wish I'd discovered them sooner!! If it's tulliallen she's going to she will
Need a tidy pair of shoes for parade, mine were doc martin shoes but not big chunky ones and no obvious stitching, doc martins are quite easy to 'bull' for inspections. ( if they still do them, as you can tell I'm retired now)

DS was issued with Dickies boots in police cadets.

Confuddledandmuddled · 04/02/2025 20:45

I’m a police officer and I wear Magnums - they’re really comfy. My force supply them though 🤔

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 04/02/2025 20:49

In my current force we get issued Altbergs but in my old force we got our own and I always went for Magnums both are fairly comfy and hard wearing. Altbergs have the edge though I think.

brill thanks - do most women wear boots or shoes?

Actually I think more like these but you get the idea.

Good luck to your daughter

unlikelychump · 04/02/2025 21:28

Boots

I wish I wore uniform.

Bonbon21 · 04/02/2025 21:30

Magnums... 2 pairs.. wear them alternative days..make sure to break them in well before she starts.
And learn to 'bull' them properly! They last longer, breathe better and look good!!

PaintDecisions · 04/02/2025 21:30

No bloody Skechers 🙄

She needs something she can polish. Preferably leather. I'd recommend a high leg lace up boot. Bonus points for an inside zip at the ankle to whip them off in people's homes if needed.

Magnum are comfy but not the best lasting.

Altberg are some of the best.

Most front line officers wear boots, male and female, as it protects your ankles (vomit, rain, kicks, whatever).

Depends on the force I believe. I still have my no 1s in my wardrobe from basic training but I opted for trousers (in 2006), but even back then Essex didn't issue it and they passed out in bloody fleeces!

Budget cuts, eh? As I understand it, no 1s are issued temporarily only for a specific event now, and sent back to uniform stores afterwards.... Hopefully that's not as widespread as I've been led to believe!

Ohyay · 04/02/2025 22:09

Magnums or Altberg.

Definitely wear them in before. Good socks.

Definitely boots and if they have a zip even better.

Best of luck to your daughter and to you try not to worry too much. X

Go for Magnum boots, protective toe cap, leather. Waterproof. Plenty on eBay for around £40

These are good, and comfy:

Get them with room for two pairs of socks for winter, one thin pair eg thin bamboo, and one wool pair on top.

I dont think so

Officers in Police Scotland however have asked for officers to donate old formal uniforms - tunics, skirts etc - and they now have a very impressive stock available for things like Remembrance Day or funerals.

For things like passing out parades female officers wear normal uniforms ie trousers

Itcostshowmuchnow · 04/02/2025 22:58

Why shoes or boots? Trainers must be better for catching crims.

Quite. Some on clouds should do the trick

HotelCustody · 04/02/2025 23:02

No steel toe caps, you’d get into trouble these days. Magnums or Altberg boots.

Boots are better protection and support for the ankles.

And yes, def break them in!

Trainers breach uniform standards unfortunately
