Multi-way dress & big boobs

Need advice.

Have to wear a "multi-way" dress for a wedding. Wouldn't have been my first choice of dress (or colour) but it is what it is.

I have big boobs - 40EE probably. Am size 16. Have lost weight and continue to lose weight but boobs still look a bit like 2 coconuts that have just been plonked onto my chest.

What is the best way / style to wear with these dresses for big boobs? Also hate my flabby arms / basically just hate feeling "exposed".

What have other people worn?

If it’s a winter wedding could you wear a fur shrug or bolero over it?

summerlovingvibes · 03/02/2025 21:50

Spring wedding.
Think I'll be quite warm as will have to wear good spanks underneath due to post c-section over hang mum tum.

It's a lovely dress but it doesn't look very forgiving. I'd need full on spanx underneath too.

I can't seem to add a photo. The second photo on the Next website would give you the best coverage and let you wear a decent bra underneath. Not too cleavage-y and will cover your arms a bit. I can't work out what it would look like at the back though. I think you need some sort of origami like instructions to put it on!

YellowJoggers · 03/02/2025 22:22

Yes definitely #2

illegalSausage · 03/02/2025 22:25

Style number 2 with sleeves then and i doubt you are a 40 back at size 16 so try the boob or bust measuring method and get new bras from brastop.com
I would wear sparkly big earrings, no necklace to draw the eyes up.

RampantIvy · 03/02/2025 22:30

If you are a size 16 it sounds like you are wearing the wrong size bra. You may need to go down a band size or two and increase a cup size or two.

KittenPause · 03/02/2025 22:36

It's a very unstructured dress I don't envy you

You could try a camisole I guess underneath the dress in a similar green to wear with it or if you're lucky the same colour in a bra

summerlovingvibes · 03/02/2025 23:03

Urgh the more I look at it the more I dislike it!

For some reason it's this exact colour that is needed. A "dark sage". Have desperately searched every website looking for something in the exact colour. And nothing!

Ok good point about the bra - will get re-measured. Because I've lost weight I've just been enjoying everything feeling like it fits better but in reality I probably ought to get a proper measure.

My plan is to use some of the excess material from the lonnnng neck bits to cut and create a "boob tube" that I can wear under the dress. This will cover back / sides under arms. Some of the multiway dresses seem to come with them and some without.

I wore a very similar dress from two birds as bridesmaid a few years ago and was so worried about my boobs in the dress! They made a boob tube that went with the dress that you could buy separately, does Next do the same? I then tied the dress so that it had almost capped sleeves and decent boob coverage, and the boob tube covered my bra at the back. Once it was securely tied (which took some practice), I did feel good in it. Good luck!

this, a 40 band bra is not a size 16! i was in a 40 when i was in a 22, defs get a proper sizing done, or check out a bra that fits guide

Mummylovesmonkeys · 04/02/2025 00:14

Pehaps the dusty sage? The back is stunning.

doodahdayy · 04/02/2025 01:48

Are you bridesmaid? If not I'd pick something else

Rumpoleoftheballet · 04/02/2025 07:48

@LolaLouise not necessarily. I'm size 16 and Rigby & Pellar measured me at a 38F.

Crazykefir · 04/02/2025 07:51

Oh dear book a bra fitting the week before the wedding and take the dress.

Pumpkincozynights · 04/02/2025 07:56

I agree that only picture number 2 looks anything like ok, even then I think it’s too low cut.
Ive seen many an uncomfortable bridesmaid and think the bride should pay more attention.
A standard bra will show above that neckline, it’s too low.
If you have to wear it, can you find something such as a bandau in lace or flesh couloured.
Also it looks very long. Most models are tall. Are you very tall op? (Apologies if you have already said.) You don’t want to be having to constantly lift the dress as you walk.

Applefumble · 04/02/2025 07:59

Missing the point of the thread, but I think it's really inconsiderate for brides to dictate what the bridesmaids are wearing without checking they'll feel happy in it.

GreyDuck · 04/02/2025 08:19

I think your suggestion of using some of the sash to make a boob tube is good. If you look at the mesh versions on the next page, they all have a built in bandeau top, with the ties just adding detail.

I would consider going a step further, and if budget allows why not have a conversation with a seamstress? Would it be possible to sew the top half of the dress into something that flatters and you feel comfortable in? All the tied styles seem to need to be tight under the bust to be secure, but a looser more floaty/skimming fit might be possible if sewn. Think about dresses you already own and like for inspiration.

These dresses look fabulous on Pinterest with all different styles to tie them, but that's just a few seconds for a photo. in real life there are some people who need more structure to their clothes/underwear to feel comfortable, and weddings can be a long day.

So do I. I’ve seen this type of dress at several weddings. To my eyes it doesn’t look good on any body shape.

I don't think OP is being forced to wear that exact dress. I get the impression she has been asked to wear a dress of her choosing in a dark sage colour. Maybe she needs help to find a better dress rather than go for that one.

Mamahotfoot · 04/02/2025 09:02

OP do you have to wear the Next dress? If you have flexibility to find a dress that you like in a style you feel happier in then you could do a Google image search. I just tried this and got a dress from Silk Fred which looks quite nice - has coverage and the boob tube you were looking to make yourself
