Multi-way dress & big boobs

Need advice.

Have to wear a "multi-way" dress for a wedding. Wouldn't have been my first choice of dress (or colour) but it is what it is.

I have big boobs - 40EE probably. Am size 16. Have lost weight and continue to lose weight but boobs still look a bit like 2 coconuts that have just been plonked onto my chest.

What is the best way / style to wear with these dresses for big boobs? Also hate my flabby arms / basically just hate feeling "exposed".

What have other people worn?

Just to add to the other great advice... if you have someone on hand with a needle and matching thread ask them to put in a few invisible stitches to attach your bra/straps to the dress. It'll be much much more comfortable if you know that you're not going to pop out or spend all day adjusting your dress.

Fab idea!

I have similar sized boobs. I think that dress will look ok on you, as long as your underpinnings are good, and you don’t shrink behind your fellow bridesmaids. I just bought a clingy top and worried like crazy about wearing it, but people kept telling me I looked nice and asking if I’d lost weight. Lesson learned.

but people kept telling me I looked nice and asking if I’d lost weight.

That often happens when you are wearing the correct sized "underpinnings" as they make your waist look smaller.

Yes, also with big boobs, if clothes aren’t fitted they fall down my body at it’s widest point, turning me into a solid block.

I remember Gok Wan emphasising how a properly fitted bra helped to show off the waist.

I don't think you will need a bandeau underneath for pic 2 unless it's low at the sides and/or back to cover your bra. If the v neck wrap is a little low, you can put a hidden stitch in slightly higher up to give more coverage. With some great underwear you'll be good to go and look lovely.

summerlovingvibes · 06/02/2025 08:25

@Rumpoleoftheballet the back and sides are completely open down to just above my knicker line so I will something to fill it in as no way and having my back flabby bits poking out! X

Oh! Can you just put some fabric across the back from seam to seam and stitch the front a little higher up? If you wear a bandeau top at the front you'll lose the definition of your bra and v neck which will take away from your silhouette.

summerlovingvibes · 06/02/2025 09:25

@Rumpoleoftheballet that is a really good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Yes that would probably work - will have a play around!

Try a beautiful shawl or wrap. You could offer to buy for other bridesmaids as a wedding gift. They look lovey and cover as much or as little as you want. ❤️

Fantasie moulded bras are good for minimising and lifting but still comfortable (I am approx the same size as you).

I find skims to be more comfortable than spanx - they don't suck me in as much but they still streamline and are easier to get on and off and go to the loo in which is helpful for an all day event like a wedding.

I really recommend this control slip from John Lewis - it amazingly doesn't ride up, covers any bra overspill at the back/sides and gives extra lift. I often wear this with normal pants as find it does the job of spanx

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-rae-firm-control-slip/p4361126?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Agree that image 2 looks the most comfortable.

For me, moulded bras just add extra size to already generous boobs. They're also unforgiving unless you fit them perfectly - not just cup but to the side etc.

Urgh the more I look at it the more I dislike it!

For some reason it's this exact colour that is needed. A "dark sage". Have desperately searched every website looking for something in the exact colour. And nothing!

Ok good point about the bra - will get re-measured. Because I've lost weight I've just been enjoying everything feeling like it fits better but in reality I probably ought to get a proper measure.

Definitely get remeasured.
I'm apparently a 38h but according to a quiz I took I'm a 36h. I'm yet to go and try some bras on and am still in my ill-fitting, baggy 40h.

Also lovely, you can buy multi way bras where you can adjust the straps accordingly and you can definitely do the way of the dress you posted.

I think a seamstress is the way to go. Definitely a V front. If you are happy with baring your arms/shoulders it could be more flattering not having sleeves (or potentially having seamstress to do something to make the sleeves more defined).

A wide banded (elasticated) waist might also help make it more comfortable.

Good luck.
