How do you make your scrambled eggs?

Just made scrambled eggs for the youngest because he didn't want the tea I had cooked.

My method is to seperate the eggs and whites, scramble the whites and when they're pretty much scrambled add the yolks to make a 'sauce'. Continue cooking for a further minute and serve. No butter or oil needed and seasoning is done at the table.

However my 15 year old tells me that this is wrong and I should beat the eggs with a bit of milk and some seasoning and then scramble them till cooked.

DH says that the pan needs a bit of butter, no milk but the eggs are beaten together before cooking. Scramble till cooked and then season at the table.

So how do you cook your scrambled eggs?? Who's right in my family?

Unfortunately they've been hoovered up or I would have done so.

Please make something hideous for dinner tomorrow so we can have a re-run.

In the microwave with milk and butter

Only if you like them rubbery! 🤮

OP your 15 year old is correct.

Simonjt · 03/02/2025 18:18

Salt, pepper, chives, eggs in a glass bowl and cooked over a pan of boiling water.

Your daughter is spot on I would also cook the eggs in butter.

TheWonderstuff · 03/02/2025 18:20

Crack eggs in pan, add butter, turn on heat, stir continuously, take off heat when almost set, add to buttered toast, season.

No milk, no melted butter, no pre mixing, no crème fraiche Envy

Takes a couple mins.

BebbanburgIsMine · 03/02/2025 18:20

In a frying pan, with a touch of salt.

No butter or milk added, because I hate them.

therattlebag23 · 03/02/2025 18:20

No milk - this is a hill I WILL die on. Plenty of butter in the pan, beat the eggs with salt and pepper, add to pan, take it off the heat well before you think they are done. Eggs should still be creamy.

I mix the eggs but not too much, cook very low and slow, add diced butternut squash and then when almost done add a spoon of crème fraich.
They need to be nice and wet

I do not add butternut squash! That was supposed to just say butter.

Beat the eggs
Melt butter in pan
Pour in eggs
Stir until almost cooked
Turn off heat

StarlightLady · 03/02/2025 18:22

A little butter in the pan, crack eggs into pan as if doing a fried egg and then break the eggs up on the heat with a chop stick as it is cooking. Add milk for a smoother consistency. Black pepper on the top just before serving.

No mixing bowl required or to wash up.

MarkWithaC · 03/02/2025 18:23

I'm in awe of the confidence of those who don't pre-beat the eggs. If I did that I'd inadvertently make a rubbish semi-omelette.

I didn't want to say anything but I thought that was an odd idea for standard scrambled eggs 😆

Whisked together in a jug, small splash of milk, salt and pepper, add them to melted butter in the pan and stir continuously, turn the heat off while they’re still “sloppy” and serve.

Same but without the milk.

Can get it done in the same time it takes to make the toast.
Add in a cup of tea and it’s all doable in busy 3 minutes.

But so rewarding. It’s the best wfh lunch ever 😁😁

DairyLeanne · 03/02/2025 18:24

Your 15 year old sounds like they make scrambled eggs the way I like them. Love scrambled eggs 😋

MoonWoman69 · 03/02/2025 18:24

Your DH is right, although I add a splash of cold water to the eggs then whisk, as it fluffs them up and bulks them out a bit.

Oh my goodness hahaha yes I too thought it was quite 'special' but didn't want to say...

No, you wouldn't. Try it, it's easy peasy. As long as the pan's not too hot when you crack them in you have plenty of time to beat them as they cook. Saves a small amount of time and cleaning up.

AltitudeCheck · 03/02/2025 18:26

Roughly mix, pop in the microwave, cook in short bursts and mix frequently. Stop well before they are 'done' and allow the residual heat to finish cooking them. Season before serving.

Sparxdislike · 03/02/2025 18:26

I do it like your 15 year old and your dh. In the pan with butter is the tastiest but not as healthy.

chattyness · 03/02/2025 18:26

Your DH is right

Comedycook · 03/02/2025 18:27

Just eggs and butter here. I hate them overcooked.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 03/02/2025 18:27

@ironingboardsarenotweapons dont know who taught you to do scramble eggs that way??? weird! we also grate a lump of cheddar cheese in the eggs at any stage. gives it a better taste! no butter. just eggs, milk and cheese! and they are always done better on the hob stirring continuously. not in the microwave!

OldTinHat · 03/02/2025 18:27

Two eggs, break into a microwaveable bowl.

Whisk with black pepper, some Worcester sauce and a few chives.

Microwave for two minutes.

Plop onto hot buttered toast.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/02/2025 18:29

Your dh is right. I've never understood why people add milk - it makes them less tasty. I've certainly never heard of your method though, OP - scrambled eggs don't contain a sauce!

thinkfast · 03/02/2025 18:29

Your 15year old is correct OP. I also add some butter to the pan as I like it.

Your method is ummmm..... interesting and sounds like a lot of work.
