Would you a) spread the rest over a number of weeks
Or b) buy a nice luxurious good shop for a week plus/considerable amount of time, but also bulk buy on cleaning products, drinks, loo rolls, toiletries etc?

Money isn't at all tight here so I'd probably do food bank shops. But if you aren't absolutely on the breadline, using it for shopping and using the cash value for some kind of treat elsewhere is a good idea.

Spend a little bit of it filling up the freezer and buying some bits I wouldn’t usually get because of cost even if it’s cheaper in the long run, like big bags of rice etc then use the rest on weekly shops

rosydreams · 02/02/2025 12:20

i use it for the grocery shop then save tne money i would otherwise use till i had that grand back in savings. Then i would pick a nice holiday for the family

NewYearNewJob2024 · 02/02/2025 12:26

I'd use it to pay for the weekly shop and put the money saved into savings! I'd maybe buy a few extra things like new pjs etc and possible leave £250ish on it for Christmas!
Enjoy OP!! :-)

Is this real or hypothetical? If real, congratulations!! We have a chest freezer so I’d stock up on anything that wouldn’t go off in the freezer or cupboards as I hate going to the supermarket so it would save me time and stress as well as money!

Bonus points if I can do it online and use my reward cards to get extra on top!

I was thinking do a luxury food shop for about 300

And then in asda or sainsbury buy school shoes maybe 2 each, for each child of mine that is in school, 2 new coats each, 3-4 pairs of shoes (2 in their current size and 2 in the next size) buy an air fryer and a 4 slice toaster. Maybe a looksie at toys and stationery. Something nice for the children as presents as Eid is round the corner.

And then I would bulk buy on cleaning products, nappies, cupboard food, laundry gel, multi pack chocolate and drinks. Anything left over out towards the next food shop.

If there’s no time limit on it I wouldn’t waste it stocking up on school shoes, if they need a pair then yes but otherwise I’d just buy them when needed.

I’d just use it each week for the food shop and anything else I needed whilst there.

I would just spend it totally as normal and put my equivalent food budget into savings, until I'd 'converted' the whole £1k into cash in my bank. Would take about 5 weeks for us.

Then I'd decide what to do with the £1k in my account.

This is what I'd do!

I’d just use it to buy my shopping every week until it runs out and then I’d be able to save the shopping money.

Probably get some treats thrown in too. Stick up the cupboards and freezer a bit. And if it’s a supermarket that sells clothes and household stuff then I’d definitely be looking at that too!

I think I could quite easily spend £1000 in supermarket vouchers quite quickly. Hope it’s really happened to you Op!

OOh, I actually won a £1000 voucher a few weeks ago.
Love2shop which is loads of places but we're mostly spending it at Iceland on frozen meat/ fish and a few bags of doner meat!
Spent a few hundred so far and we're off on a weekend away soon so will buy "nice" foods/ wines etc.
It's actually more exciting than cash for some reason

soundsys · 02/02/2025 12:48

This is what I'd do!

that's basically what we're doing. A fair few of months of the price of meat and fish taken off our budget

SunshineAndFizz · 02/02/2025 13:08

Save it for Christmas - buy a load of toys, food, booze etc later in the year. You'll thank yourself.

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 03/02/2025 20:00

I'd do my normal shop with it for as long as possible. I'd really try and eek it out.
