What would you do with a £1000 gift voucher, that you won for your favourite Supermarket, would you??...

Would you a) spread the rest over a number of weeks
Or b) buy a nice luxurious good shop for a week plus/considerable amount of time, but also bulk buy on cleaning products, drinks, loo rolls, toiletries etc?

I'm boring as I'd use it for the weekly shop until it runs out.

YoungGunsHavingSomeFunCrazyLadiesKeepEmOnTheRun · 01/02/2025 19:09

A bit of both I think.

Depending on the supermarket I would stock up on the things I usually buy when they are on offer and/or have a good points deal on them.

So it would be used over weeks/months but only to stock up on deals or collect more points.

Bjorkdidit · 01/02/2025 19:23

I'd use it until it ran out, however long that took. I wouldn't deliberately bulk buy unless I saw things we needed on offer, which is how I shop anyway.

I might buy a few extra treats but I wouldn't think 'free money to blow as fast as possible'. Your wider circumstances are also relevant. If you're in debt or don't have any slack in your budget, you could use the opportunity to divert some of the money you haven't spent on groceries into debt repayments or an emergency fund,

TimeForSpring · 01/02/2025 19:53

I'd use it as normal, and spend the "shopping" money on nice stuff from elsewhere.

mindutopia · 01/02/2025 20:16

I would just use it for my weekly shop, but I’m not opposed to just buying some nice luxury items in my regular shop if I really want them.

YourHappyJadeEagle · 01/02/2025 20:20

I’d bulk buy boring stuff like toilet rolls and laundry stuff. Buy myself some nice toiletries then give the balance to dc as they feed a family and I’m just me.

Exactly this.

Our food shop is about £200 a week so it would last 4-6 weeks ish

Needmorelego · 01/02/2025 20:21

I don't have the space to bulk buy so I'd probably just spend it as I go.
But depending on supermarket I might use half of it to buy some non food stuff like clothes, toys and household bits.
Actually......if it was Sainsbury's or Asda I might spend all of it on non food goods.
Food is food. I can get that anywhere but I like a lot of the non food products that Sainsbury's and Asda sell.

Guineapiggywiggy · 01/02/2025 20:21

I’d blow it on very expensive champagne.

Whoyoutakingto · 01/02/2025 20:29

I would buy gifts for everyone and lots of party food and have a celebration.

reluctantbrit · 01/02/2025 20:31

I would buy some more expensive versions than normally, so the wine I only buy at Christmas or the chocolate box I can't justify buying for myself.

If it would be a supermarket which also sells white goods, electrics, clothing and toys/books I may buy some there instead of other stores.

Whatwouldnanado · 01/02/2025 20:33

Weekly shops and save the same to spend on trips, theatre etc. I’d buy prizes for charity raffles too.

Desparelyseekingfreedom · 01/02/2025 20:34

I would spend it on my normal shop and take the money that I would have used to buy something nice.

Judgejudysno1fan · 02/02/2025 07:51

I was thinking do a luxury food shop for about 300

And then in asda or sainsbury buy school shoes maybe 2 each, for each child of mine that is in school, 2 new coats each, 3-4 pairs of shoes (2 in their current size and 2 in the next size) buy an air fryer and a 4 slice toaster. Maybe a looksie at toys and stationery. Something nice for the children as presents as Eid is round the corner.

And then I would bulk buy on cleaning products, nappies, cupboard food, laundry gel, multi pack chocolate and drinks. Anything left over out towards the next food shop.

I would see it as basically winning £1000 cash so would probably book a holiday (a week in a caravan in Norfolk!) and have it as usual spends as I went along. I'd probably buy some nice flowers for myself and my mum though.

UbiquitousObjects · 02/02/2025 07:54

I would just spend it totally as normal and put my equivalent food budget into savings, until I'd 'converted' the whole £1k into cash in my bank. Would take about 5 weeks for us.

Then I'd decide what to do with the £1k in my account.

Straightomyhead · 02/02/2025 07:56

If the shop had a good clothing range, I would stock up on some baby clothes for my little one and a few bits for me and then treat like my normal shop.

AdoraBell · 02/02/2025 07:57

I would be boring as money is tight, use it for the weekly shops and put my money in savings.

Moonlightstars · 02/02/2025 08:01

I would bulk buy things on offer that we get normally. I do this anyway and save a fortune over time. We have a loft so can put things in there.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 02/02/2025 08:09

I'd shop as normal with some treats thrown in until it's been used up.

Snowmanscarf · 02/02/2025 08:17

I would use it for my weekly shop, but throw in some luxuries, plus stock up on basics .

lollylawyer · 02/02/2025 08:23

I’d just spend as normal for my weekly shop and put the extra I didn’t spend on shopping towards debt repayment or the holiday budget.

hjfoau · 02/02/2025 08:52

Spread it out over my usual shops to save £1000 that I could use for something else, probably put in our holiday pot.

EyesFlowers · 02/02/2025 08:54

I’d have a little splurge on non-food like homewares, toys and books. I’d do a £100 food bank shop too and then just spend the rest as normal.
