Whether it’s appliances, storage ideas, practical or innovative designs, inspire me!

a double sink, one to wash up in another to use as a drainer. Means there’s no need for a draining board.

DisforDarkChocolate · 26/01/2025 18:46

I'm looking at a workstation sink for my smallish kitchen. They look very practical.

bingocard · 26/01/2025 18:49

Mine is a must not. The kick boards under the cabinets sit back from the cabinet itself . It was supposed to give the idea the cabinets are floating iyswim. They are an utter pain in the arse to clean under as the hoover doesn't fit under there . So give that a miss !

I've just had my dream kitchen built. Pantry, pantry, pantry.
I have two sinks (neither on the island), and it's brilliant. One is a small one in the main kitchen. The other is a deep one in a hidden utility space and has a pull-out tap, which is fantastic for cleaning bug pots and anything mucky, as you can just leave them in their soaking and you can close the doors and still have a tidy kitchen. I also love my pull-out laundry bin.

unsync · 26/01/2025 18:57

Dishwasher. Drawers not cupboards. Correctly designed lighting. Side by side ovens at a height that suits you rather than a double oven if you have the space. More sockets than you think you will need. Decent extract. Knob free hob. Shower type mixer tap.

LittleMissLife · 26/01/2025 19:08

Instant boiling hot water tap (doesn't have to be a Quooker) Pull out bin / recycling bin. Lots of drawers. Keep breakfast bar / island as clear as possible - no sink or hob. Factor in space for airfryer if needed. Lots of sockets with usb / usc (hidden if preferred) Ceiling height cupboards as one less area to clean. Enjoy your planning & new kitchen 💕

Pan drawers 100%

CrownCoats · 26/01/2025 19:34

Big drawers for pans, plates, bowls - just about everything except for food is better in a drawer.

Can I ask why a sink is better than a draining board as a drainer? Not done it before so not sure how it works

Edited

What lighting do you suggest? Built in? Under cupboard too? I think I need those.

It won’t have a dining area in it because it comes off the dining room and I want as much counter space as possible!

Neff Slide-and-Hide oven. My kitchen is fairly small and not high-end but the oven was the most important thing for me.
And Le Mans units in any corner cupboards so they can be fully utilised.

WhitstablePearl · 26/01/2025 20:03

Another vote for Qooker (or equivalent). Love it. Wish I had gone for the fizzy water version

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 26/01/2025 20:04

We just did our kitchen and these are things I love:
Pop-up and out shelves for big appliances like mixer and air fryer with sockets behind.
pull out shelves in cupboard for coffee machine and toaster so they’re put away when not in use.
Photoprinted Glass backsplash - no grouting and splashes don’t show.
under hob extractor
boiling water tap with cold and fizzy water.
knee operated bin drawer
roll up cupboard with pull out shelf near to hob to hide all the oil, salt and pepper and herbs.
warming drawer

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 26/01/2025 20:05

We also have spotlights with built in speakers (that was DH contribution to kitchen design)

I love my Slide-and-hide. Best thing ever and so needed in my narrow kitchen.

Extra high cupboards
Pull out larder, even if you can only do 1/2 size, so easy to access things like bottles, jars, whatever you need on a regular basis
Pan drawers
Sockets, sockets and more sockets
Underfloor heating means we can get away with a slim towel radiator instead of a big one.

My kitchen is next on my list and after remodelling my favourite house I am not having under cabinet lighting. I thought it would be soothing and I'd use it. I did not. I also got rid of the drawers which I still prefer. And whilst I like metro tiles I wouldn't have the beveled ones again.

But I am having bins in a cupboard, a small sink without a draining board, a dishwasher, a pantry tall cupboard, an induction stove and cupboards that reach the ceiling.

If my kitchen was bigger I'd like those gadget garages on worktops.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 26/01/2025 20:12

Soft close drawers
a separate wine fridge
2 fridges, one small under counter and a large one
6 gas hob burners
2 ovens - this is amazing but is one range, like this, also having a rack for a roast without having to take it out of the oven

Would love a gadget garage. Watching with interest as planning a kitchen revamp this year!

MissConductUS · 26/01/2025 20:15

We’re two weeks into a kitchen remodel. We’ve put in two floor to ceiling pantry cabinets with pull out drawers in the lower half and regular shelves above. They’re brilliant.

Also, the corner cabinet came with two shelves that swing out into the room. And all of the doors have a “slow close” feature. They slowly swing close on their own after you start closing them.

When we had ours done a few years ago our must haves were self-cleaning double oven, 5 ring gas hob and quooker boiling water tap.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 26/01/2025 20:59

Flat doors, so you can clean them easily.

Drawers, rather than cupboards, I wish I had put more in. I've also got cupboards up to the ceiling, so more space.

unsync · 26/01/2025 21:08

It's the positioning of ceiling lights that's critical so that you don't cast a shadow as you stand at the worktop. This from designers_need on insta shows the kind of thing.
