Has anyone ditched the microwave?

Thrilling chat for a Sunday morning I know, but I’ve been thinking about getting rid of ours for a while. It takes up so much of our limited worktop space, and yes we do use it a bit, but we have an air fryer that can reheat so we’d really just be losing the defrost function, and ability to cook a microwave meal (not necessarily a bad thing?!)
So, has anyone got rid of theirs, was it not even missed or will we be making a big mistake?

Thanks, I will give this a try if my plate warmers don’t work. I usually don’t have a draining rack as I only buy things that go in the dishwasher. I also hate drying things.

I don’t use plate warmers in microwave. Just put a bit of water between each plate and whack the power on high for a few mins.

Thanks, I might try this as well but again I think this means drying plates. I am really lazy.

I wouldn't be without a microwave. It gets used several times a day in our house, from heating milk for hot drinks in the morning through to cooking frozen veg for dinner. Convenient, time saving and saves on washing up too.

:D yep, some of the water evaporates but will most likely need a quick wipe with a tea towel.

I've never had a microwave and don't have an air fryer either. Air fryers look good though and I might get one at some point.

Also never had one. Nor a bread mixer or multi-cooker or air fryer. Or toaster!
I'm holding out for a full-blown food replicator 🤣.

Oh yes I've never had a toaster either. Forgot about that. We make toast under the grill or make toasties in the frying pan.

We rarely use the microwave but we do feel we need to have one. When I got together with DP I had a crappy small one (because it fitted under a shelf in my old pantry), and she didn't have one at all. So after a while we thought about whether to get rid of it altogether, or upgrade it, and decided to get a bigger, better one with a grill function. Then recently when we redid the kitchen we had to decide where to put it/what to do with it (there's not masses of space), and it made the cut again. The compromise has always been that we put it somewhere less convenient rather than using up precious counter space. Currently it's in our utility area, used to be in the pantry. And many years ago in a tiny kitchen my housemate and I decided to keep it on top of the fridge-freezer. We didn't use it enough to give it counter space, but we decided an inconvenient microwave was better than no microwave, even though we had to stretch up a bit to use it. Currently it's only really used for defrosting things and reheating hot drinks.
