Such a long list. How many assaults does someone need to have done before being locked up! 20? 50?!

Well there are some busy threads about the Southport killer and his history and people I think not believing how widespread this violent risky behaviour is among children

I found this unbearable, a ten minute walk home from school

3rdtimeinflorida · 25/01/2025 19:10

I worry for my teenage kids now more than ever.

Just a baby. What a waste of 2 lives

comedycentral · 25/01/2025 19:17

Such a heartbreaking story; it really makes me worry about my own children. Walking home from school should be a healthy, happy part of the school day for children.

And in this case seems to be known to the police.

soupyspoon · 25/01/2025 19:21

Yes, if my maths is right the killer was also 12 at first police intervention

And of course those are actual charges, there is likely to be plenty more behaviour and criminal activity from this child that wasnt on the radar or was dealt with as NFA

I have a feeling the assaults will be teachers or family members so it would have been completely minimised by the authorities. Horrendous but true.

TheCrowPeople · 25/01/2025 19:29

I wonder if the woman he assaulted was his mother. And now, finally, the assaults on her and the police officers (maybe called to her home?) are being dealt with.

We see so many threads on here from posters, mostly female, being abused by young teenage DC, mostly boys - and being effectively told by the authorities that they must somehow 'cope'. We hear of parents calling the police time and time again and nothing changing. We know there is a societal crisis of e.g. childhood teenage mental illness, online male aggression and violent pornography, and fuck all allocated resources to deal with it.

We try hard as a society to keep children out of jail, as we should - but we do not provide resources to offer meaningful alternatives at a young enough age. Or any age, frankly.

fluffiphlox · 25/01/2025 19:32

I wonder whether the parents should be in court too in these cases, for failing in their parental duties

soupyspoon · 25/01/2025 19:32

I made an assumption that the charges relating to this week were his mother in terms of the woman.

You cant charge in retrospect so the historical charges were underway already most likely, unless someone has literally only reported it now, but that wouldnt be the case with the police officer charges.

I would imagine otehr children have already also been on the recieving end of his behaviour.

Even where the mother's a victim who has turned to every possible source of support and found zero help? That's usually where women are by the time they end up calling out the police. In fact a lot of agencies including schools, social services and posters on here would advise precisely that.

And after a short time, the kid ends up back home. And so the cycle begins.

It's unimaginable if you haven't been through it.

soupyspoon · 25/01/2025 20:24

Well facebook gossip is saying the attacks were on elderly women. Unsure if true. And if true, unsure if the women were related to him

I wouldn't be surprised if the mum asked for support but was sent on useless parenting classes instead. No one cared my child was hurting me until they missed some school.

At some point a person has to take responsibility for their own actions. 14 is old enough to know you don't stab people.

Facebook gossip is likely false but he could have been living with grandparents.

Lots of people who are saying the same thing.

Yes could be untrue. Im not very au fait with facebook if Im honest

Yes could have been living with grandparents but thats not how the comments read in terms of the attacks.

OP posts:
comedycentral · 25/01/2025 20:30

I've not read the comments so can't add but we had a serious murder locally a few years ago and the amount of false speculation online was crazy. It was eventually cleared up in court and in the later inquest.

Danikm151 · 25/01/2025 20:40

Birmingham is horrendous at the moment. The same day as this poor 12 year old died, another boy was stabbed in a park aged 15. Then yesterday an 18 year old was stabbed in the city centre.
something needs to be done about teenagers thinking that carrying a knife is an acceptable thing to do!
I fear for all the kids out there.

TomatoSandwiches · 25/01/2025 20:49

It's early years, intervention needs to be implemented in the very early years to make a difference but agencies keep putting policies in place that means a lot of children are not even being assessed without being court ordered to by the LA.
This equals years and years of delayed treatment.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 25/01/2025 20:57

The BBC says he attacked an 80-year-old

He is also accused of the serious assault of a woman on 19 January, the serious assault of a woman on 20 January and the assault of a woman on 21 January. woman, and was released

mumda · 25/01/2025 21:02

Something on the TV today that there's been a real effort to keep kids out of the judicial system.

Well clearly that insanity needs to stop.
