Herbal teas?

GoodOlePolariod · 24/01/2025 22:15

I drink far too much fizzy pop. Over 2 litres a day . I never suffered with bloating ever. And I've had the bad habit for 25 years. However I used to drink far more.
I'm struggling now Always bloated uncomfortable and now gaining weight. ( the drinks are diet , however I know the sweetness are bad and make me crave junk)

The only other drink I have is tea. But 3 sugars, I know, I know!
I'm getting to peri age and I really need to make a change. So far by sheer luck whe I had all my bloods done for over 40s medical they were all within normal range across the board. I know this is luck and won't always be the case which is why I want to make changes.

So I need to make changes , I like the idea of a herbal tea. As well as health benefits, even if I started with 1 cup in the morning and evening, I will make it a part of my routine.

Herbal teas are my mastermind subject. What are you looking for from a tea?

GoodOlePolariod · 24/01/2025 22:18

Something to help bloating, if by a miracle help weighloss . And just genuinely feel less sluggish.
I like fruity/ sweet ideally I think?

The only one I like is peppermint tea. It is supposed to help with digestion and stomach problems

Totally agree. I love peppermint tea I can drink loads of it. Feel so much better too.

For sweetness, look for either a roobois which is naturally sweet (you can get flavoured ones. M and s does a toffee one, I think. Asda has a chai spice one), liquorice which is also naturally sweet, or stevia leaves. I find stevia a bit sickly myself.

Liquorice and peppermint might help with bloating, if it's digestion-related.

I buy a lot of mine when I'm in different countries. France has a lot of "drainante" or "digestion" type options that can help circulation and bloating.

Your local Polish shop will have some medicinal teas and whoever works there might have some thoughts. Mine is run by someone with gran energy so she loves talking about herbal tea.

Most herbal teas sound delicious, smell delicious ... and taste like brewed grass cuttings, but I really like Good Earth hibiscus, rose & sweet berries

PerpetualStudent · 24/01/2025 22:24

Try yogi teas - they have lovely blends so they don’t taste too ‘one note’ - things with mint, ginger or fennel are good for bloating

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/01/2025 22:24

Good earth does a nice roobois chai too.

Sostrene grene has some nice herbal teas, and so does bird and blend.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/01/2025 22:24

Pukka mint refresh is the best if I'm struggling with a sore belly.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 24/01/2025 22:25

I love Twinnings' spiced ginger tea

notprincehamlet · 24/01/2025 22:27

M&S raspberry lemonade infusion teabags are nice too but they have stevia which is probably cheating

PickleBranst · 24/01/2025 22:28

Try the Twinings Superblends. The 'digestion' one is peppermint based. The 'Glow' one is Strawberry based and 'Calm' is camomile. They are all really nice and make me feel better! I love pop too.

What's your favourite brand?

GoodOlePolariod · 24/01/2025 22:30

Thank you. I will check all these out. Chai sounds good. I'm going to m&s tomorrow anyway so will look there 1st
I'm sure I've tried peppermint in the past and wasn't keen but it was a cheap brand maybe that made a difference.

Blackcurrant is nice if you have a sweet tooth

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/01/2025 22:36

I'm bad at favourites. There's some I like from celestial seasonings, good earth, bird and blend, pukka and yogi as well as lots of supermarket brands.
I like Nordquist which is maybe Finnish or Swedish? They make moomin roobois tea.
Herbapol make the best medicinal teas you can get in the UK for a low price like sage and linden.
Sonnentor do really nice herbal mixtures. I got those in Austria. I'm caning those at the moment as I have a cold.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/01/2025 22:37

Oh the choco tea from yogi might appeal, op. It has cocoa beans and liquorice. I have it if I'm craving hot chocolate but don't want the calories or the dairy.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/01/2025 22:37

The quality of peppermint tea absolutely makes a massive difference for sure.

The most cleansing thing think I drink is slices of root ginger with hot water. I’ve started drinking that all day and everything seems to feel better - stomach, throat, general wellness.

Theresacatinmykitchenwhatamigonnado · 24/01/2025 22:43

I love Moroccan Mint. I don't like it too strong - people often make herbal tea super strong and it's (for me) really grim. I like a light dunking then I save the tea bag for a second go.

Enko · 24/01/2025 22:45

I dri know mint (not peppermint) as I like it both hot and cold and it really aids my sugar cravings too. Makes me want less sugary stuff.

Why not try a variety box and see what you like from it?

GoodOlePolariod · 24/01/2025 22:48

A variety box sounds a great idea.

I like hibiscus tea. It is just a flower, but looks and tastes great.
Good for digestion and blood pressure.

mdinbc · 24/01/2025 23:13

In the summer I make hibiscus tea and drink it cool as my water for the day.
I add a little lemon juice, but you can add a little honey if you crave sweet.
