Her husband is working 2 full time jobs remotely. They live in the UK, so he works one in the day and then one which is US timezone. But there is crossover. Is it me or does this seem, I don’t know, fraudulent ?

"Working 2 full time jobs is 74 hours a week which is excessive and bloody exhausting."

Except they aren't...there's a crossover period. If it's 9-5 US and both jobs are 9-5, that's 3 hours per day in each job when he isn't focusing on his role with either employer.

Especially in the US it is very common to work 2 jobs.

My employer (UK professional services firm) does not prohibit this so long as not working for a competitor or interfering with my duties to them.

We have fully flexible and remote working.

No issues with doing this whatsoever - provided people are meeting their KPIs and targets.

Edited

Does working contracted hours come into it or is it all KPIs?

chaosmaker · 22/01/2025 10:02

@FairieCastel is that unethical like politicians with multiple jobs that give hours worked that they can't possibly be doing because of not enough hours in the day.

I'm far, far more concerned about that.

Maybe your friend shouldn't be talking to you about this...

🤨

nam3c4ang3 · 22/01/2025 10:15

Yikes what is she thinking talking to you about this - it's not fraudulent or unethical - they are working to earn more money, maybe they need it, maybe you dont know why. You sound nosy and are looking to get them in trouble?

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2025 10:18

Not sure what it has to do with you but I would imagine as long as he's completing all of the work he's supposed to and paying tax etc then there's no harm to anyone...........

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 22/01/2025 10:21

No. If he's working all the hours he's contracted to do and there's no requirement to be in the office, that's 75 hours a week in theory. If he's more efficient and/or productive than expected, he's doing less. Jobs require you to turn up if that's a part of the job and to do what you're contracted/asked to do. It isn't illegal not to do that, even, but it just makes you more likely to be validly fired or not progress.
Also NOYB.
I do think it's unfortunate SOMETIMES that when good jobs are hard to find and in some place especially so for natives of that country, that individuals have multiple well-paid remote jobs (think of MPs, for example, Rishi Sunak taking a lecturing job in the US while still an MP is disgusting to me) but there's nothing you personally can do about it.

RelaxTheCacks · 22/01/2025 10:23

Why do you care, it's none of your business.

Bodeganights · 22/01/2025 10:36

joysexreno · 21/01/2025 20:56

Yes, it sounds fraudulent and unethical. It's probably against both companies' policies.

Bull, at times I've worked 3 jobs and 7 days a week to get by, it's not pleasant, but it's not unethical or fraudulent so long as the job is done.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 22/01/2025 12:31

Op, you were covered about the fraudulent side of things in your op.

Snout out and please no pearl clutching.

Oblomov25 · 22/01/2025 12:33

Probably chat is not the best topic for this, because chat can be a toned down version of AIBU. If you posted in employment or legal you'd get knowledgeable employment lawyers posting with lawful knowledge.

Loads of posters are completely missing the point. It's not to do with the 2nd job, in itself. (I myself had 3 part time paye jobs at one point), it's the 'crossover' part that is important.

People think their job owns them, out of hours as well as in. It's so weird.
Unless it's against the terms of either contract who cares.

@ChicLilacSeal not everyone has to do their work in a line of 8 straight hours like that.

True, but in the absence of more info., I was thinking of a common scenario.

Vitriolinsanity · 22/01/2025 19:06

Most contracts, mine certainly does, say you can work for another employer provided it does not impact your role.
