If you’re in the police

If you lived in v close proximity to a potential drug dealer would you take action ?

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 19/01/2025 17:15

What do you mean by "take action"?

bilbodog · 19/01/2025 17:20

Often the police know exactly who the drug dealers are but catching them in possession is a different matter. Without finding drugs on them they cant do anything - so its not that simple.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 19/01/2025 17:22

They won’t take action unless there is financial gain to do so, Traffic offences etc are lucrative the police are not interested in drug issues or burglary.

Nonsense

BubblePerm · 19/01/2025 17:38

As police, I have submitted intel on several dealers supplying juveniles.
Crimestoppers is truly anonymous and a good way for the public to go when reporting, but we do protect the identities of those who give intel, as it can not be used as evidence in court, so is not for public disclosure.

BubblePerm · 19/01/2025 17:38

They will build up an intel picture.

Jibberjabba · 19/01/2025 17:42

The dealer will know their occupation yet he continues to do so and it’s been happening a long time

OP posts:
AquaPeer · 19/01/2025 17:46

I think sometimes people think that the police just immediately go and arrest these people and job done.

however, there is the issue of gathering evidence. But more importantly the police only have limited interest in arresting drug dealers. They may well let them continue to deal whilst work takes place to take down the gang or supply line in a more impactful way. Arrest one drug dealer and another will be in the flat tomorrow dealing in his place.

I presume you have no way of knowing what this police officer has or hasn’t reported, but are assuming they’ve done nothing because the drug dealer is still there dealing? You only have a small part of this picture

Theunamedcat · 19/01/2025 17:48

Always wondered are police and fire brigade obligated to disclose certain things? We have a gentleman who grows and sells his own he got so high he accidentally set fire to his garden the neighbours garden a bloody tree the fire brigade were called and the police he wad smoking and telling them to keep it away from his shed as it had his product in there.....nothing ever happened to him not even a welfare check on his child? Just wondering if that was normal 🤔

Rubbish !

Jibberjabba · 19/01/2025 17:53

I understand I only have a small picture but as I say because he has been at it a long time and there is a pattern of his movements, car changing all the time etc it would be easy to do a stop and search and even if you get one dealer off the street it’s a good thing

If I were a police officer (probably best for all I'm not) I'd have to ensure there was no danger of anyone thinking I was turning a blind eye because I was corrupt.

I’m sure more happened than was obvious to you

what a load of shite
the police do not benefit from fines you moron

of course they care about drug and burglary but are chronically underfunded

OP , no one wants drug dealing on their street and would report what they know through proper channels

RosePosse · 19/01/2025 18:12

Are you asking whether a police officer would report potential drug dealing by neighbours? Or whether police would do anything if drug dealing was reported?

Whether a police officer would report

I'm not a police officer, but I think I would be exceptionally careful taking action regarding a drug dealer where I lived (eg neighbour or whatever) in case of reprisals. One of my siblings lives in a flat in a large building. It's a nice flat in a nice-ish area. There is a range rover owning drug dealer living there. Again - I think be careful of shitting where you eat. Sibling is careful to be polite to drug dealer.

how can you be sure “ nothing happened”
social services would not keep you in the loop of their investigations !

Thethruththewholetruth · 19/01/2025 18:30

I would submit intelligence to the effect but there isn’t a great deal else you can do, especially if it’s not your force/area. We often already know who they are to be honest but try to aim higher up the chain than a scrote that would easily be replaced in a few days.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/01/2025 19:49

Well they can't act on 'potential' drug dealers as they haven't the manpower. I knew someone who had a cannabis farm opposite a police station.
They're not fussed about it unless it leads to someone higher up. So I'd imagine they'd be required to prioritise higher profile drugs/violence or organised crime groups etc.

mollymazda · 19/01/2025 19:53

iI you work for the police and live near a drug dealer, you would know exactly what to do? How do you know they haven't already done so? are you the dealer and getting a bit jumpy cos you've just found out the next door neighbour works for the 'rozzers'

No would be v happy if this wasn’t happening anywhere including where I live.
