Strong design choices in this house!

OK so there are 209 photos to look through and I am trying not to feel like a failure because I don't have a cake decorating room and a pool just for pedicure fish. But I'm over 100 photos in and invested now...

Not as invested as the realtor in Florida who is rubbing his hands at the number of hits it's getting but... invested!

I give you this gem.

Crikey. The little exercise trampoline looks so mundane and out of place in that house!!

The commitment to finding so many specific hideous items for each theme is commendable, I suppose. I lean towards maximalist but that is another level.

You couldn't ever put anything down because you'd never be able to find it again, it'd disappear forever in all the patterns. I'd never tire of running up the stairs and sliding down the slide though.

That is precisely the observation I was going to make!

it's sort of a work of art, but not for me.

It looks like the kind of house I’d build out of Lego with that blue roof. Fish swimming pool, the tree circular staircase and the Viking kitchen table are fab, and some of the kitchen tiles and mosaic floors are really attractive but just completely overwhelmed by all the clutter.

Google tells me it’s owned by Thomas and Virginia Schrager, and they do have a (grown up) daughter called Sophie. Sadly, no minimalist sons called Thor.

PrincessAnne5Eva · 18/01/2025 16:22

I actually love it. It reminds me of Rosslyn Chapel. Just the level of detail in every room is stunning. It's not stylish in any way shape or form but I still love it. Whoever buys it should open it up as a visitor attraction.

Growlybear83 · 18/01/2025 16:24

It's almost wonderful bit not quite 😆. I would kill for that swimming pool, and I love the big stone hands in one of the very last photos.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 18/01/2025 17:02

Aside from the roof, which reminds me of Lego, I love it! Yes, it is totally, mindblowingly bonkers but so wonderful that I have no idea how you could ever bear to sell it. I'd live there and never be bored. I love that there's a dog room and a cat room. It's just amazing.

I actually have no idea why I love it so much being a total introvert and a bit beige...🤔 but I now want a Viking longship table in my kitchen...

Sorry, I hadn't read your post before I posted my comment, but we agree on the Lego roof and the Viking table...

I love the tree house staircase!

Me too!

Silvertulips · 18/01/2025 17:08

Every wall has storage! It’s like a giant caravan - which is an oxymoron!!

Alice in wonderland would love it.

CrushingOnRubies · 18/01/2025 18:06

That is migraine inducing - normally I say it's all just decorative just paint over it, but there's so much of it.

I like the slide in the kids bedroom. Also like the grounds

Not sure if I like the blue roof or not

CrushingOnRubies · 18/01/2025 18:07

Also like the Chinese rowing boat table

TheWholeMealBaby · 18/01/2025 18:26

I wonder how much it would cost to take it all back to the bare bones and re do it? I assume if you have those kind of funds to buy it renovation costs wouldn't be a problem!
Also, way too close to the neighbours for that kind of money IMHO.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 18/01/2025 18:40

This looks like the house of someone that Larry David would visit and relentlessly take the piss out of in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Also, whenever I hear 'money can't buy you taste' in future, this is what I will envisage.

CornishPorsche · 18/01/2025 19:01

$25 million and no one has pressure washed round the pool or the dock? Grubby.

Why is the yacht in a different place in each picture?

And no floor plan?

I WANT the longship dining table though. OMG.

TheFlyingHorse · 18/01/2025 19:11

I only got to photo 125 because my eyes were hurting. I can't imagine how you would actually move house with that level of stuff, you'd need a fleet of removal vans.

Top marks for the indoor slide though which is a personal fantasy.

I'm reading MN to have a break from de-cluttering. That house making me feel a lot better about my landing cupboard.

Butteredtoast55 · 18/01/2025 19:15

I'm going to go with 'It's a strong aesthetic'

readingismycardio · 18/01/2025 19:16

God blessed me with eyes and I abused them 🤣

Cerialkiller · 18/01/2025 19:30

Well the owners certainly have taste...not GOOD taste but certainly...Taste with a capital T.

I think if you got rid of all the wall ornamentation it would look lovely. Too many random images and elven carvings....EVERYWHERE!

I do love the pool, also all the floors are lovely. The Escher style one in the hall, the maze one in the living room, the fish one. Understated compared to everything else. The ceiling murals would have to go though...my eyes!

InfoSecInTheCity · 18/01/2025 19:34

Well that's gaudy.

I feel like after a few days you'd be buying a load of tins of magnolia paint and trying to find some peace.

Went for Gaudi and ended up with gaudy,

TheWellSungGame · 18/01/2025 20:03

That's a lot of money for an ??investment?? on the coast of Florida. The insurance is probably as much as the mortgage.

I also like the longship table.

Oceangrey · 18/01/2025 22:28

I really really hope that whoever buys it doesn't rebuild or completely refurbish. So much amazing art in that house. It's not my style but I love the thought and care that has gone into this.

CornishPorsche · 18/01/2025 22:33

It would make an incredible hotel.

Oceangrey · 18/01/2025 22:35

Yeah, it would.
Not enough bedrooms at the moment I guess. But something where you just go and stay for a few days and have the experience of the place would be perfect.
