A niche item or food you could never give up.

Hi all, first ever post so please be kind!

Currently on mat leave and was enjoying some chocolate raisins during a contact nap last night (after DS jabs). I hardly ever have them (choccy raisins) but my God I find them addictive, I could never give them up.

So I am curious. What niche things could you never give up, things you don't have or use everyday but you would be really put out or upset If you could never have/use them again?

Chai Latte! Especially at 3am (joys of peri-menopausal insomnia!)

Me too, it’s in my bones.
Just have to hear Out on the floor, and I want to dance on a talc covered floor. In my long swirly skirt and my flat pumps.

I so wish I could dance the Northern Soul Way.

Exactly the same as my list!
though diffierent order: coffee, travel, yogurt
and I’ll add my Uniqlo bag.

Pickled herring. I buy it imported from Sweden, not the rollmop rubbish they have here.

Roll-mops are obvious different from Norwegian sursild which may not be to your taste as they are sweeter and less acidic but if you do also like that sort, the ones Waitrose do (Elsinor) which are from Denmark are almost as good as homemade.

So many things. Probably handbags and Barry's Tea if I had to choose.

GoldenPineapple15 · 17/01/2025 19:48

A can of cream soda in the car on the way home from work . Bliss .

I see your 3am chai latte and raise you a 4am redbush tea, fellow perimenosomniac! 😂

Proper real bagels fresh from the bakery. I really miss the ones in NY that had all different seasoning on. The 'everything' bagel. I've not seen them in the UK.

They have them in London in various places including the It’s Bagels in Primrose Hill

Allihavetodoisdream · 17/01/2025 19:57

And I’ve just checked and they have them in Sainsbury’s and Ocado too!

Would you mind sharing where you buy the herring? I grew up eating sour tasting roll mops in Germany and I've missed them so much! The ones here are far too sweet for me.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/01/2025 20:49

@Allihavetodoisdream haha, thank you! I'll try and check them out. I get them delivered by one of brick lane ones, but they only do plain. Their salt beef is fantastic though.

Capers and black olives. The rest of the family hate them, I think they make so many meals delicious.

Vaseline in tiny round tubs as lip balm. I have one in each coat pocket.

But my god, getting the bastard things open! (The vaseline tubs, obviously).

Cheese. Every few months we go through a stage of having cheese toasties. Yum.

I'm not sure you can claim cheese as a niche thing, Sparkles. It's basically the foundation of almost every good meal. Practically its own food group.

(my username is pretty accurate)

spoonfulofsugar1 · 17/01/2025 21:59

Shock Pickled herring is one of the most revolting things I've ever tasted, and I'll eat almost anything! We had it on holidat in Denmark and I swear I could taste it for about a week afterwards!

Fontainebleau007 · 17/01/2025 22:16

@Turophilic agreed still something I couldn't live without 🤣
