Stag do in Dublin

yggvugg · 16/01/2025 20:02

My friend is getting married in August and I’m in charge of his stag do. We’re going for two nights in Dublin and the guest list is the stag himself and then I think there is going to be between seven-tenish people. We arrive 1pm Friday and leave Sunday.

He absolutely doesn’t want anything vulgar but it is a stag so I have warned him there will be some tackiness. Does anyone who knows Dublin or who has had a good time on a stag/hen have any ideas of what I could organise?

I thought maybe we could have a party bus pick us up from the hotel on the Friday after we get there, and he does enjoy gin so then maybe book a gin bar which serves food afterwards, then hit the bars.

I thought for the Saturday an escape room or one of those pedal things where you’re on a tour with a bar as you pedal around. I’ve never organised a stag or hen before so any advice about how it should be structured or any good ideas of how to make it enjoyable for everyone would be gratefully received!

Depending on the date you’re travelling, the Horse Show is a great day out. Everyone hates those pedal things! What about kayaking or a boat tour in the Liffey; Viking Splash tour; or a walking food tour?

I would post this on Craicnet.
But have brought lots of people to the Guinness storehouse and they liked it. Good views of Dublin plus the black stuff.
We had colleagues visiting us last September from Spain and they went on a boat trip , they seemed to enjoy it https://www.goatboat.ie.

Does your friend like this sort of thing? It sounds horrific to me.

Why go to Dublin to do this? You could save the airfare (assume you are flying in from the UK?) and go to a midsize town to do these activities.

The Guinness storehouse is a brilliant thing to do, they have all sorts of things to do involving drink.
Go out to the coast which is stunning in Dublin.

My apologies if you like doing these kinds of things and crack on and have fun. 😃

Also we have this booked for a work night out in April https://flightclubdarts.com/ie/

Dublin is an overpriced shithole, I'd avoid it if you haven't already booked! Lots of better places in Ireland to visit, Galway is lovely for example. Derry or Belfast are great too and possibly a bit cheaper even.

Joyfulspringflowers · 16/01/2025 20:15

Why does there have to be "tackiness"?

He sounds like a decent guy if he doesn't want anything " vulgar". Why not respect his wishes?

He is getting married to some one he is in a committed relationship with. So why do you think it's appropriate to make him take part in something "tacky".

I thought stag and hen dos were banned in Dublin. I'm sure a taxi driver told me that when I was over there.

We could but then he could get a train home and escape more easily. He’ll hate it when we dress him up as an inflatable dinosaur. He’ll love the pubs in Dublin. He’ll be touched people have made the effort for him.

I’ve been to Dublin before and loved it, and I think he will too.

Because it’s a stag do! We’re not going to dress him up as a penis and book a stripper, but he’ll be greeted at the airport with us wearing masks of his husband to be, and he’s getting a sash and we’ll be playing a couple of inflatable games.

He’s marrying a man so I suspect it would be wasted on him 😅

Bit of a bizarre overreaction to what I thought was simply a clue as to where my taxi driver may have got his ideas from....and quite interesting... Bad day? Or are you always this snipey?

yggvugg · 16/01/2025 20:49

Can we not derail the thread please?

Any suggestions for what to do in Dublin or what people have enjoyed on hen/stags would be appreciated.

Make an account on Boards.ie and ask in the appropriate forum (try After Hours for traffic). You will hopefully get some ideas from the blokes (it's mostly men that post but not exclusively). Bear in mind that you will probably get a lot of ribbing (slagging they call it in Ireland), but you just might get some ideas from those on the ground.

As an adult female I couldn't say what stags could do in Dublin. But hey there are plenty of the animal variety out in the Phoenix Park!

The George and Street 66 are good gay bars. I haven't done the Viking Splash tour myself but people tell me it's great fun. I would say Stag groups are welcome enough around Temple Bar.

Halavonna · 16/01/2025 20:58

Avoid Temple Bar area if you can. The hot spots are around South William Street and Camden Street. You won't find many true Dubs in Temple Bar that's for sure, but it's fun to walk around as a visitor and have a pint or two, but not for the entire night at all!

Well, it’s a stag but the entire guest list except the stag are women. So not a typical stag.

Ask anyway and say that. I think you will have great fun with the replies. "Stag do in Dublin with only women stagettes, any ideas for fun things to do?" OMG
