Stag do in Dublin

yggvugg · 16/01/2025 20:02

My friend is getting married in August and I’m in charge of his stag do. We’re going for two nights in Dublin and the guest list is the stag himself and then I think there is going to be between seven-tenish people. We arrive 1pm Friday and leave Sunday.

He absolutely doesn’t want anything vulgar but it is a stag so I have warned him there will be some tackiness. Does anyone who knows Dublin or who has had a good time on a stag/hen have any ideas of what I could organise?

I thought maybe we could have a party bus pick us up from the hotel on the Friday after we get there, and he does enjoy gin so then maybe book a gin bar which serves food afterwards, then hit the bars.

I thought for the Saturday an escape room or one of those pedal things where you’re on a tour with a bar as you pedal around. I’ve never organised a stag or hen before so any advice about how it should be structured or any good ideas of how to make it enjoyable for everyone would be gratefully received!

Check out to see if Bingo Loco is on, that might be fun for everyone?

Is he into something a bit higher brow, or happy to go pints pints pints?

Thank you, I’ll have a look. He’d definitely like something high brow but also isn’t opposed to pints.

Tie him to a lampost and leave him there, then the ladies can go off and have a ball.

That was a tradition back in the day, not so much now, but it could always be revived. Outside the George Pub there is a great lampost ready made for this purpose. George's Street is a hopping place too, leads on to Camden Street. Party time!

Great idea!

Because it’s a stag do! We’re not going to dress him up as a penis and book a stripper, but he’ll be greeted at the airport with us wearing masks of his husband to be, and he’s getting a sash and we’ll be playing a couple of inflatable games.

Well if that's what you mean by tackiness then fair enough.

He’s marrying a man so I suspect it would be wasted on him 😅

Go to the PantiBar https://www.visitdublin.com/pantibar
They do bingo in there of a Sunday I think...

The George is another great bar to drink in

You could go to the Comedy Club, do an escape room or Gin tasting experience. There are loads of things that you could do instead of the regular visiting the Guinness Storehouse and such

I had thought of an escape room actually. He loves gin so was going to book the gin palace for one evening because they do food too. I’m just a bit concerned everyone will be bored but then obviously don’t want to force everyone into too much organised fun!

What about a drag show?

Then drinks in Cafe en Seine or cocktails in Peruke and Periwig

I thought stag and hen dos were banned in Dublin. I'm sure a taxi driver told me that when I was over there.

You can’t ban stag and hen do’s in any city
There are some pubs in Temple Bar (touristy bar area in central Dublin) that don’t allow large groups of stags / hens in and especially if they are very rowdy looking
If you are trying to get into these bars don’t try and get in in big groups

House nightclub is good, it’s on Leeson St Lower
Do a bus tour the morning after a night out, it’s an easy way to spend a few hours if ye are a bit hungover
Guinness Store House
I would also say Kayaking, see below link to guided kayaking in Howth, Howth is also nice

Vintage afternoon tea on old routemaster bus driven through the city,
Axe throwing,
Archery,
Karaoke,
Whiskey tour/tasting/ cocktail class quite a few to choose from- Jameson, Teelings, Pearse Lyons and Roe & Co.
Ghost bus tour to Dublin mountains to haunted Hellfire Club,
Bubble football
Foodie walking tour
Gin afternoon tea/ class in Stillgarden Gin Distillery
Avondale walk among the tree tops, 10 storey viewing platform and forest walk.
If he has any irish heritage Epic museum is great.
Silver Works do a jewellery making class.
House of Read is a curious place to visit and they do truffle making workshops for small groups.
Butlers Chocolates do factory tours with lots of samples where you get to decorate a chocolate gift
The Vintage Cocktail Club is very classy
If he's interested in culture the Chester Beatty Library and museum is wonderful.

As well as things that have already been mentioned, like the Guinness storehouse and whiskey tasting, I recommend the Dublin Literary pub crawl https://www.dublinpubcrawl.com/.

If the group is a fan of the great outdoors, during the day time it could be nice to go to the coast - either Howth or Dun Laoghaire are easily accessible from the city centre by Dart (train). There's a lovely loop walk around Howth Head (and great places for fish & chips and ice cream) and in Dun Laoghaire you could try things like stand up paddle boarding with https://bigstyle.ie/paddle-boarding-dublin/ or I think kayaking.ie/ does trips to Dalkey island. Or try sea swimming at Forty Foot! Have fun!
