Having 3 under 5 is going to be exceptionally hard work for the first couple of years. Is there anything you can compromise on to make your life a bit easier? Any help with the kids so you can get some sleep?

3luckystars · 08/01/2025 13:15

Meditation can help with the stress. It really can. Look up Dermot Whelans website there are some free meditations there, you can get his book from the library too.

Also, GLOWWA hair supplements really work, they are expensive and take 3+ months but they do work.

Regarding the no sleep and small children being sick, no help for that, just time. I have been there and most of us have. I’m sorry you are struggling and hope you get a break soon x x

stayathomer · 08/01/2025 13:15

Could You go for a haircut? It’ll get it under control plus you’ll have an hour of being pampered. As said already it’s the toughest time age wise, and difficult to eat right and drink water and get sleep when you’ve such demands on you x

Are you low in vitamins? Hair loss can be due to vitamin deficiencies.

DaringFawn · 08/01/2025 13:47

I really don't 😔 it's pretty much upto me

You could have mentioned hair in the title! I thought there was something urgently wrong 🙁

Jk987 · 08/01/2025 14:01

Sorry I didn't read it properly, it does sound bad. You need to ask people to come round. 3 under 5 is a nightmare.

Scirocco · 08/01/2025 14:02

I've also got long hair and noticed it's a lot finer now (after having DC). My hair looked great while I was pregnant, then went dull, fine and brittle. I made sure I was taking a vitamin supplement and had a healthy diet, and used good quality haircare regularly - that seems to have helped a lot. It's still fine but looks and feels nicer now.

Do you have any parent friends who could help in a pinch? If so, if you let them know you've a poorly child and 3 under 5 to manage yourself, I'm sure someone would be happy to help out. My friends and I have dropped off meals, taken out rubbish, done grocery shopping, come round to watch kids so people can shower/sleep, etc when people have needed help.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/01/2025 14:26

Why can't you cut your hair?

kiops · 08/01/2025 14:32

have you had your thyroid function checked via blood test? Thinning hair can be a symptom of an underactive thyroid

IronCoral · 08/01/2025 14:35

Cut your hair. Take supplements and look at your diet. Is your anaemia due to heavy periods? Get your them stopped - ask for the coil. You sound stressed and I suggest you call the GP and medication and therapy. X

IronCoral · 08/01/2025 14:36

and get medication

StormingNorman · 08/01/2025 14:40

Bach Rescue Night Remedy is great to help you sleep but doesn’t leave you sleepy when you’re awake.

Bedtime stories for adults on the Calm app are amazing for getting me off to sleep quickly. It also has five minute meditations and Daily Calm sessions to help manage stress.

DaringFawn · 08/01/2025 16:19

I wish I had that friend support sounds lovely lol I don't have many friends here tbh x

I've got the coil but none hormone as can't have hormones and if anything it's made it heavier I have 3 periods now instead of 1 so anemia is definitely my problem alot of the time

Why not? Unless you are Sikh who can’t get their hair cut for religious purposes.

DaringFawn · 08/01/2025 16:22

Getting to sleep isn't the problem it's staying asleep lol the kids don't sleep x

Can you afford to get yourself some biotin supplements and iron supplements with added B vitamins (Floradix does them) . Biotin is supposed to be great for hair and nails. And anemia and B vit deficiencies will definitely cause brittle hair and low mood - I have the same issues.

If you like them, try eating more honey, marmite and rice krispies (not together Grin) as they are all good sources of B vitamins.

Plantur 39 is supposed to be a good shampoo for hair thickening.

NeddieSeagoonsSteamPoweredTelephone · 08/01/2025 16:25

Iron deficiency leads to increased hair fall, so get yourself a multivitamin with iron supplement and make sure you are also eating iron rich foods. The NHS thinks women are ok with a ferritin level of 15, but to prevent hair loss it needs to be up around 80-100.

Talk to your GP about the kids not sleeping. I didn't sort this out early enough but it was a real issue. They could maybe take melatonin on prescription, or some other safe medication that helps them sleep.

I did get to the stage where I had to say: you may not need sleep but mummy does. I have to be safe looking after you and to be safe, I need sleep. So if you wake up, you can play with toys quietly or eat snacks and drinks left by your bed. I used to lay out a table with some safe toys to play with and some oatcakes, fruit and water, so they had no reason to pester me. It sometimes gave me an extra hour in that killer hour between 4.30 am and 5.30 am.
