Having a panic attack - anyone up?

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 01:42

Had a stressful day and just before bed I noticed the fingers in my right hand felt a bit weird and tingly. Started panicking about all sorts of health issues. Managed to get to sleep but have now woken up and feel like I'm having a panic attack. Obsessing about whether my fingers feel normal or not. Trying to do deep breathing but it's not helping.

I'm up, what do you need? Distraction?

gingerbreadpenguin · 07/01/2025 01:50

Are you okay Op?

madaboutpurple · 07/01/2025 01:51

Sorry to hear this. Would having a herbal tea help you? Things can seem worse at night. I hope you can relax.

I'm not sure what I need. I just wanted someone to talk to. I can't tell DH as he gets annoyed with me.

Still feeling paranoid about my hand and the weird feeling.

I find acknowledging it and telling myself it's just panic helps
Used to say "oh hello panic, it's you" and then carry on with what I was going
Playing a game on my phone helps as well

If you want a funny story I once woke up and couldn't feel my arm at all, it flopped and hit me in the face. Turns out the (7kg) cat had slept on me all night and given me a dead arm!

sykadelic · 07/01/2025 01:56

My husband once had a dream his hand was being eaten by a bear... it was trapped under my boob

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 01:56

I've had that before where I've laid on my arm and it's been completely numb and hot myself in the fave with it like a wet fish.

I don't even know what I'm worried about with my fingers. MS? A stroke? Blood clot? I don't know. My rational brain says its anxiety or even that I'm making it up as it's not obvious.

I just hate feeling like this. Feels like I'm going mad.

It could actually most likely be because I was obsessively playing block blast for an hour on my phone before bed in an effort to relax! Using my left hand to type now.

I normally try breathing exercises. Breath in slowly and say 'calm' in your head. Breathe out slowly and say 'and relaxed' in your head. Repeat

Strawberrypicnic · 07/01/2025 01:59

It's all the panic talking, honest. Get out of bed, walk around, do some push ups, get a cup of tea. Do some mindless tasks around the house if it helps.

Don't google health issues!

You are safe,.you're not going crazy, the panic isn't going to hurt you, it just feels like shit. It will pass.

😆

Mine are much too small for that!

Get yourself a drink and try reading, counting to 10 in a mixed up number order also helps some people. I hope it passes soon

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 02:03

I'm definitely not Googling. Dr Google would send me to A&E.

Can't stop obsessing about how my hand us feeling and whether it's tingling or not.

Hayley1256 · 07/01/2025 02:05

My hand tingles sometimes and its fine, doesn't happen often. How did you do on your game before bed?

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 02:07

I did OK on the game. It helps to distract me when I'm feeling anxious or stressed. Can be a bit addictive though!

OP posts:
fivebyfivebuffy · 07/01/2025 02:15

I'm addicted to clockmaker apart from when I get stuck on a level, that's frustrating

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 02:16

Not heard of that one. My DD introduced me to block blast. It's a bit like Tetris.

My hand is definitely tingling now.

I recently increased my dose of beta blockers on the advice of my cardiologist. I take them for sinus tachycardia. Tingling hands is apparently a side effect. Not sure if it is that though as surely it would affect both hands and I increased the dose three days ago.

If you leant on your elbows too long you can pinch the nerve. I like to call it gamers elbow because I'm definitely not golfing...

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 02:32

I was lying on my back on the sofa with my phone resting on my bent knees. But that was hours ago and hand is tingling still now. I'm 90% sure it's psychological but 10% sure it's a horrible disease and I'm right to be panicking.

OP posts:
Pippatpip · 07/01/2025 02:41

Its not a horrible disease
If it was a stroke then you would be more affected by now. Same for cardio. You trapped a nerve and also anxious.

Have you got any canomile tea or the like you could make yourself. Getting up and moving around may be a good idea.
My dog has woken me up barking at foxes doing naughty foxy things and my husband is snoring. Grrrrrrrr.

threeHasTheWorstITEver · 07/01/2025 02:44

Even if it were a horrible disease (which it isn't, realistically!) it isn't going to kill you before morning! Tingling suggests something having happened to a nerve but overwhelmingly more likely to be something eg to do with an awkward position while you were gaming that will fix itself, than anything that needs medical attention.

What I like to do with weird medical stuff I might eventually need to go to the doctor about is pick a length of time it's reasonable to have the thing without doing that, and put a note in my calendar to remind me to think about whether it's gone or not. Eg in this case I might give it a week, so I'd put in my calendar for a week today "tingling going/gone? Else consider GP appt". Doing this seems to let my brain stop paying attention to it and reminding me to worry about it. Practically always, by the time the calendar date comes round, whatever it is is gone or obviously getting better anyway. And I reckon that with most things that aren't obvious emergencies, if you do need to go to the doctor, an early question is going to be "how long have you had it" and if that's a time the doctor considers short enough that it may just go away, they're just going to say "come back if it's still there in [some time]" anyway.

madaboutpurple · 07/01/2025 02:46

I don't play computer games. We have just had a power cut and lots of alarms are going off. Luckily power is back on and there is light again. We have more snow so I will probably stay in tomorrow .OP I hope you are feeling better .I feel sorry for the homeless and wonder how they cope in terrible weather.

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 02:47

Thanks. I have an appointment booked for the 15th so that's a good thing to focus on. Statying to feel a bit sleepy now so hopefully the adrenaline is wearing off.

MessyNeate · 07/01/2025 02:47

I had this earlier playing my usual game. Royal match! Often use it to distract me! My hand feels normal now!

I just can't sleep!
