Opinions. These as a party bag ?

Doing my dca party in Feb. A whole reception class. 30 kids plus 6 family all age 4 to 6 years

Usually I've just done sweetcones, the works £10 for 10 books ,Then buy a paper bag to put in a slice of cake.

Thinking price wise. The books I'd have to buy 4 bundles £40
The cones £3 , sweets for that amount of kids probably £25 maybe less., paper bags for cake are £2.99 for 10 in our local party shop so again £12

I thought of doing these as they would be the bag that holds the cake , and it's a gift in itself instead of a book or party bag tat, maybe add a pack haribo / dairy milk little bar?

Please note I'd actually buy these from The Works as they do proper material ones.

Opinions. These as a party bag ?

Why do you need a party bag? It's just more tat /landfill .
It's unnecessary imo

AuntieMarys · 05/01/2025 18:45

Bonkers. Piece of cake is all they need

PamelaShipman80 · 05/01/2025 18:45

Little one had one of these as a gift bag once, they went down well!

PartyBagFillerUpper · 05/01/2025 18:45

That's true. I'm guessing it's because I always have done some form of gift or book for the last 21 years ? Altho back when the eldest dcs were small it was the proper plastic tat that tended to get used unfortunately

My DC is now 10 but I've just done a sweet cone and slice of cake.
Or just a cupcake x

It is of course, but tends to be expected and it's a good way of signalling to small children that the party is over and getting them to leave without a fuss. I think those are good OP, don't spend a lot of money if you can avoid it because the bags literally are only looked at on the way home from parties IME, no matter how thoughtful or elaborate.

weareallqueens · 05/01/2025 18:47

My daughter had one of these before too. I was quite impressed with the idea. I'm desperately trying to come up with something that's not clutter and tat.

(The reason you need a party bag? To tell them it's time to leave.)

Yes I guess that's true. But here it seems to be the done thing. 4 dcs and 100s of parties. Mine have never come home with just cake.

They've received books, plant seeds , usual bubbles plastic shaped novelty glasses etc. Sweet cones. Character cups filled with sweets. Personalised note pads and pens. And various other stuff even easter eggs for an Easter weekend party

I think they're a great idea. Something for them to do and a nice crayon

And what do you do with all the detritus that they get in their party bags?
Put party end time on Whatsapp or invites

PartyBagFillerUpper · 05/01/2025 18:51

Yes agree it's kind of expected and finishes the party with no tears for those who are leaving.

I only thought the bag as they may re use them for bits and bobs, knowing what my dcs are like they always have lots of precious things to keep safe. Ie a random stone or shell !

Sounds like a great idea. It's creative, something for them to do which always goes down well with the parents too and something to put the cake in! Perfect! These threads always have comments like "why bother, just give cake" 🙄but we all know kids expect them so I think it's great!

Generally sweets they've eaten. Books they've read and put to charity when out grown, seeds planted. But agree all the other stuff has ended in landfill. But as I said lots of this was when my 21 yo was small so party bag tat was the thing to do.

However our school do collect the party bag type bouncy balls and things for prizes. So our last lot we passed on

You can change the expectations, by not doing it, it's not compulsory.

DuvetMouse · 05/01/2025 18:58

Yes I think that’s a nice idea. Bag+cake+crayon thing+freddo or similar.

Ours moved towards just sweetcones around 8 (ate the cake during the party)

Well yes, but OP wants to do it and hasn't asked for input on whether to bother at all or not.

OP these look good and can actually use them too.

loobywench · 05/01/2025 19:04

I've bought Easter eggs before, works out much cheaper and kids love them

PartyBagFillerUpper · 05/01/2025 19:27

Thank you. Yes I'd do easter eggs if was an Easter time birthday

Howtonamechange · 05/01/2025 21:06

I think they're reasonable. Put a small bag of sweets and maybe a pack of crisps in it with the cake.
I've seen these bags in the shop, They're quite small so check them out in person if you can before ordering them

Moveoverdarlin · 05/01/2025 21:08

My children are 6 and 9, they love getting party bags. They would love these.

Honestly I personally just like a book to take away. Cake wrapped in a napkin.

The 10 for £10 books from The Works are great. Also check out some of the online book retailers as sometimes they also do discount book bundles.

PartyBagFillerUpper · 05/01/2025 21:24

I think that’s a nice idea. I must admit we never liked the book thing much, always seemed to get one they’d already got (it usually seemed to be Horrid Henry or some Fairy thing, it was a few years ago). They always liked bouncy balls too but that probably does come into the category of plastic tat.

Baddaybigcloud · 05/01/2025 21:34

We’ve used the works ones as party bags before and gone down well. Put some sweets in and a slice of cake
