I’ve on day 6 of a cold and very bored.

our ranged from burnt orange, to amber, to under to pure beige. With a contrast of white.

m&s CTM, Mango chutney, Nan, dal basmati rice.

I’m not proud but I’ve been making home made nourishing soups all week with a rainbow to nourish us and well fuck it.

Takeaway stilton and blue cheese burger with cheesy chips. Pretty beige.

Very beige as it's the weekend and I refuse to cook. I make everyone healthy food for almost every meal all week and deserve a rest too, I detest cooking. I e ordered pizzas and cheesy chips from a local takeaway. Showed in today and haven't been shopping yesterday so I'm just about to go and search the freezer for something to eat for tea today. I would love a curry but doubt deliveries can reach us sadly.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 05/01/2025 13:21

We had spatcocked chicken with Nandos sauce on it, roast veg cous cous, rainbow salad and waldorf salad and crusty bread, so all in all not too bad.

Tonight is cottage pie with broccoli and rainbow carrots

Datesandprunes · 05/01/2025 13:21

I had half a bucket of popcorn - so very 😂

Last night, halloumi and orzo bake consisting of:
Red onions
Cherry tomatoes
Red peppers
Halloumi
Pesto
Orzo

Not beige at all!

But tonight it's French onion soup with cheesy bread, so pretty beige!

Sounds good, I have a halloumi loving dd - do you mind sharing the recipe please?

Surely "beige food" is the term for battered/breadcrumbed/junky freezer food, oven chips, chicken nuggets, sausage rolls etc? Not just (perfectly healthy) food that happens to be beige in colour?

We had homemade pan fried duck breast ramen with babycorn, mange tout and red pepper, so not what I'd consider "beige" even though the noodles were indeed beige in colour.

None of these are exactly what I think of as ‘beige food’ - on the other hand we had fishfinger sandwiches (on oven bottom muffins) so a proper beige tea.

To ease my guilt on the beigeness we had some veggie sticks (carrot, cucumber and celery) and cherry tomatoes with it, but still not my finest hour especially considering lunch was eating up the leftover cheese, pate, crackers, pickles, crisps etc Chucked a bit of apple and a few grapes in there but still!

In desperate need of a big food shop, but going to try to eke what we have out until tomorrow as I hate food shopping on a Sunday it’s always just dregs with really short dates.

We had the same (fish finger sandwiches).

Mine was especially beige (baguette, butter, ketchup, fish fingers), DH's was semi beige (his included salad and no ketchup), DD's was least beige, more of a snack plate with veg sticks etc.

It was a quick dinner as we'd been out all day, and just wanted something that we could cook and eat quickly at the kitchen table without any faff.

@Ivyy

It was delicious! I had to cook it for a bit longer than it says, in order to get the orzo to cook through.

1 Red onion, peeled and cut into wedges
500 g Butternut squash, prepared (frozen cubes recommended)
3 Garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
2 tsp Olive oil
1 tsp Paprika
300 g Dry orzo
700 ml Vegetable stock
250 g Cherry tomatoes
2 tbsp Pesto
225 g Halloumi, cut into 2 cm cubes Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
100
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
In a roasting dish, combine onion, butternut squash, garlic, oil, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat and bake for 30 minutes, uncovered.
Stir in orzo, vegetable stock, cherry tomatoes, and pesto. Place halloumi on top and bake for another 15-25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Kcal: 581 per serving

I actually had lovely real food last night for what feels like the first time in ages.

Chicken stuffed with Boursin and wrapped in bacon, creamy garlic and mushroom sauce, sweet potato fries, tenderstem, asparagus and baby corn.

UnisexChipshop · 05/01/2025 13:35

Very beige TBH - dhal, coconut prawn curry, poppadoms, naan and rice. Quite a lot of veg involved, fresh tasting and all home made, but I ended up going a bit over the top with the coriander garnish to make it look a bit more appealing.

NewYearNumpty · 05/01/2025 13:37

Yesterdays tea was boiled eggs and toast and an almost out-of-date mince pie… just returned from a long motorway drive and the house was cold and dark, so just a quick meal.
Today will be roast chicken dinner, so just a bit beige with the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds… cant wait! Rhubarb crumble, warmed, and single cream🧡

BigDahliaFan · 05/01/2025 13:40

I take the point about proper beige food…and salute those of you who did it properly. That is the crispy something out of the freezer and chips people especially those who thought fuck it at the idea of cutting up a carrot….

We’ve been eating through mounds of party food for days. I went to do an actual food shop yesterday and get proper wholesome ingredients to find our local Tesco decimated of all fresh produce due snow. I’m so ready to get back to normal and eat a decent meal. I never want to see beige again.

UndergroundSilo · 05/01/2025 14:00

We had teriyaki tofu with white rice and a side portion of broccoli. It was 3/4 beige but was the first proper meal I have had in 2 weeks due to flu. It felt like a momentous turning point!

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 05/01/2025 14:05

One of my children had a pot noodle and the other had a cheese toastie.

Pleaseletmegohome · 05/01/2025 14:58

Very un-beige as I have started the post Christmas purge (and do actually prefer this kind of food).

Roasted salmon
roasted tomatoes
broccoli
asparagus

It was bloody delicious too!

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 05/01/2025 15:01

Brown and beige with some red and white.
it was Turkish style beef pasta

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/01/2025 15:02

Not at all beige because DH bought a fuck off massive box of spinach at the supermarket, even though we already had lots of spinach. We had steaks, saffron rice cooked in the steak juice and a giant pile of spinach each. DCs had the same thing but with Mac and cheese instead of rice.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 05/01/2025 15:23

Medium beige, it was breaded chicken, very beige, but it was home made with sourdough breadcrumbs and a honey mustard dip, served with roasted carrots, was very tasty!

mondaytosunday · 05/01/2025 15:24

I had Thai style beef with rice and broccoli and mange tout, with pickled carrot strips on top. So dark brown, light brown, green and orange! It was yummy.

BlueEyedLeucy · 05/01/2025 15:25

Chicken pie (Potato topped as gluten free) with peas. Bit dull but comfort food.

TabloidFootprints · 05/01/2025 17:35

Yesterday was toad in the hole and gravy, beige, but also carrots and broccoli, less so.
Today is fish pie, so mostly white.

DilemmaDelilah · 05/01/2025 19:36

Not feeling great at the moment, so I had a jacket potato. Very beige.
