What's your resting heart rate?

ilovemykids1 · 04/01/2025 22:08

I'm worried my heart rate is too high, it seems to have changed after birth.

If I'm lying down dead still, it will go into the 70s (75-78) but as soon as I sit up it'll generally sit between 90-110 ish. Even if I'm just sat in the car, earlier it was 99.

Is this too high? I have had an echocardiogram last year and my heart was structurally normal but I'm concerned my HR is too high!

I'm the same. I don't like it.
I did go to the cardiologist too, and did a 24 hour monitor, and he said because it came down nicely overnight while I slept, he's not concerned.

I want to go back to him for another check I think, as I have other risk factors for heart issues too.

thaegumathteth · 05/01/2025 02:27

I've only ever had mine checked at GP etc but it's usually 70-80 I think.

ilovemykids1 · 05/01/2025 09:09

@wandawaves I don't think mine comes down though. I wear an Apple Watch and it only drops to 70ish while sleeping. Isn't it supposed to be around 50? I'm scared I'm going to have an early heart attack!

Mine averages around 66 according to my Garmin. I'm nearly 50, I think that's about the right level?
Are you especially busy or stressed during the day OP?

FuzzyPuffling · 05/01/2025 09:15

Between 45 and 52. No, I'm not an olympic athlete.

DustyLee123 · 05/01/2025 09:17

Mine has always been in the mid to high 80’s, but does go to the 70’s in sleep. I’ve had ECG’s, echo’s, and it all comes back normal. Higher must be normal for you.

crossstitchingnana · 05/01/2025 09:17
  1. I’m 57, it’s always been low. I am active but not super-fit.
DiaryofWimpy · 05/01/2025 09:17

I have a really high resting rate. Around 110 been for ECG etc but they couldn't find out why it was so high

Poihg · 05/01/2025 09:20

Typical ranges for people according to my Fitbit are 60-100, mine hovers around 62-67 generally but if I’ve been ill it goes up to mid to late 70s

AltitudeCheck · 05/01/2025 09:21

Av resting (for the last year) according to my garmin was 46. Mine is always on the low side, I'm not super fit, it's just always been that way.

Boredlass · 05/01/2025 09:22

50-55 and the only exercise I get is at work. I eat no carbs though which helps

50 is quite low - entering into athlete territory.
depends on your age etc but what you’re describing - c79 at rest, 90/100 when up - isn’t abnormal

HPandthelastwish · 05/01/2025 09:23

Anywhere between 50-100 is normal though

Mine is 58 when I'm a healthy weight doing lots of exercise now it's closer to 70 and I have quite a few stone to lose and horrifically sedentary WFH

How has your activity level changed since having a baby?

BobnLen · 05/01/2025 09:23

Around 70

Radionowhere · 05/01/2025 09:24

55 at rest. Goes up to 165 when I run.

MiddleAgedDread · 05/01/2025 09:28

56-60
top end of healthy BMi, late 40’s, exercise 5-6 times a week

MumofCrohnie · 05/01/2025 09:29

Could it be anaemia if you recently had a baby? My DD has Crohn's and when she gets anemic one of the main signs is a very high heart rate.

Was about to suggest anaemia. High/easily elevated heart rate is one of my main symptoms.

ilovemykids1 · 05/01/2025 09:35

No I have had a few blood tests since birth and everything was normal. My resting heart rate seems to be ok it's during sleep I'm concerned as it doesn't seem to drop.

It used to drop between 50-60 when I slept and now it's between 70-85 during sleep. Looking online this is high when sleeping.

Yours is at the high end of normal but still in normal range. Do you exercise? Weight? Has it been like this for ages? What’s your blood pressure like?

(Mine as measured by my Apple Watch is 48 but it’s always been low + weight/bp/exercise all contribute for me as well as lucky genes)

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 05/01/2025 09:41

According to my Garmin watch mine rests at 54.

Devilsmommy · 05/01/2025 09:46

Mine sits at 85 resting but if I get up it can jump to 120 easy. Palpitations started after I had my little one. Been diagnosed with overactive thyroid. Did they test your bloods for thyroid?

DutifulLark · 05/01/2025 09:47

52 at rest on average. I'm not an athlete and I'm about 10kg overweight. It's genetic - my mum is the same. Always been low and doctor isn't concerned.

ilovemykids1 · 05/01/2025 09:48

@olderbutwiser weight is average - not perfect but not massively overweight.

Exercise is definitely poor!! Need to improve this.

Blood pressure is ok now but I had post partum hypertension. Everything seemed to change during and after birth. Been 10 months now and still not back to normal.

OP posts:
ilovemykids1 · 05/01/2025 09:49

@Devilsmommy yes they have tested twice this year - all normal.
