Better Man.

I was watching some clips from Sydney last night that reminded me that actually I like Robbie Williams and I heard the film was really good but I'm not sure I can get over the monkey thing.

Has anyone seen it? Why is he a monkey and is it really distracting or do you just get into it?

I'm going to be a bit of a film nerd right now and say why I think this film worked so well. There's a book about the 7 great plots, which exist throughout both novels and films. They are; the quest, overcoming the monster, journey and return, tragedy, comedy, rags to riches and rebirth. This film actually had elements of all these plots, which is one of the reasons this film is so satisfying to watch. There's been some American commentators on X who don't even know who RW is ( including David Duchovny for example), who have actually watched the film, saying how great they thought it was. On my flight I also watched The Brutalist and Anora, films that both won Oscars, but I thought this film was way better than both of those.

I can't stand RW and hate music biopics, so probably not for me...

I don’t think you need to like RW or biopics to appreciate the film. As someone wrote upthread you don’t even need to know who RW is. It’s just a really imaginative and well made film and very far from the standard celeb biopic.

I thought the film was amazing tbh and you soon look past the monkey.

I’ve just watched it on steaming and enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. The monkey works as it is so close to Robbie. I was really impressed with how they did it. The tech is so clever now. I was also left with the feeling that Nicole A must have some horrid stories from being both with Robbie and the Gallagher brother.

It's on Amazon prime now. I think it will start to get a bit of a following now, even tho it didn't do well in the cinema.

Saw this on a flight and loved it. What a beautiful tribute it was to Nicole Appleton, blown away by the love shown to her.

Oh, I didn’t even know about this film - Robbie’s Dad and my Dad were friends (both arseholes TBH) so interested to check it out.

I think the VO is an actor and he sings too.

I’ve just been looking at the IMDB listing - the voiceover is Robbie himself.

A chimpanzee is a strange choice if he wants to play a monkey though, did none of his researchers actually point out it's an ape not a monkey? 😁

Phew someone said it! He’s an ape not a monkey.

purpleme12 · 05/08/2025 09:00

Yeah You can tell it's Robbie
