This year has been hell for me MH wise and I have finally got on top of it! So no major goals for 2025 other than to remain peaceful and prioritise my health.

This! I feel like I did similar last year just started building some habits...gone off over christmas but going to start again tomorrow but slowly and calmly!

I’m exactly the same! I felt fantastic too really cut back on a lot of sugar, stopped snacks, takeaways and focused on healthy eating. I lost 4 stone and my energy levels were great.
ive let go a lot over Xmas and I feel sluggish and crap. I’m looking forward to getting back into it

Rather than a single new year's resolution, I am aiming to do science on myself, with a subject of one. Every month I'm going to try something new that may or may not have beneficial effects on my health and/or life. My commitment to each will be for a max of 31 days. If I don't like it/feel a benefit there is no requirement to continue it.

I've matched each experiment to a month using a random number generator, and start today with intermittent fasting. Each experiment will have required resources and metrics to measure progress if any.

Experiments include digital detox, start a meditation practice, go outside every morning, 30 days of yoga etc.

Also, I'm trying Rock Choir after a thread I saw on here this week.

This is fascinating, I like the way you're approaching it, I think it sounds like a good way to make things 'stick' (if they're beneficial) - I'm a classic for starting this that and the other and then not being sufficiently consistent.

That being said I've just done a mental checklist of things I did achieve in 2024 and feel like there are some things I did do consistently and they have paid off, so feeling positive about 2025. I love threads like these though in any case for inspiration and positive ideas. I also like the approach one poster said about small changes which have had a big impact as I feel like that worked for me with a few things last year.

Today I started my plant based diet. I did it a few years ago and really saw the benefits.

I would say they are major goals. Don't underestimate the value of peace, calm, good mental health and prioritising these. Go you. 💪🫶

Lose 3st.

1lb a week for the whole year. Will stop all sugar after today, portion my carbs and up my daily steps. It's nothing faddy, nothing unsustainable, nothing that is going to feel like I'm depriving myself.

So I'll report back in December 😮

Me too exactly!!

Paradoes · 01/01/2025 11:09

To eat better and not binge

to read a book a month (bought Bee Sting and starting today)

possibly start a new job

Dontlletmedownbruce · 01/01/2025 11:14

@Cornecopia what an amazing weight loss you had!! You just need to start enjoying it more and learning to maintain well. That's an amazing way to begin a new year, good for you!

@Paradoes I'm actually jealous you are starting on the Bee Sting because I loved it so much. I'm like a sales rep for the book recommending it everywhere. Paul Murray is a genuis.

BlwyddynNewydd · 01/01/2025 11:16

I'm going back to a career I left before Covid, I've been thinking about it for a while. And have decided to do it within the next 2 months.

I'm going to stop stagnating, and live my life as if there's not much of it left. I feel like I'm wasting it. I'd like to say yes to more things, and spend more time with the people I love and care about.

I'd like to craft more, and keep on top of the house work. I've been without ADHD meds for around 6 months, and the house is shocking. I waste so much time stressing about it, that I don't live life!

FrenchFancie · 01/01/2025 11:17

I’m another one aiming to lose 3 stone in the year. It won’t take me back to a ‘happy weight’ but gets me a damn sight closer than I am now.

i also need to finish my course and graduate.

get new job!

read 25 books

finish 5 craft projects. I’ve so many things started and not finished I need to finish some things up.

get average screen time down to less than 2 hours. I am shamed by my high screen time usage..

escapefortheday · 01/01/2025 11:18

I have used Appblock to keep me out of x, insta and f book all day apart from 9-9.30am everyday. It has worked a treat.
I've spent more time on here, but I don't mind too much as it's the reels that get me.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 01/01/2025 11:19

Lose weight. About 4 stone in the first instance.

Leave my current job and totally change profession to something that will give me my evenings and weekends back.

I am approaching each goal as a job in itself. Both are equally important for my physical and mental health so I can’t be dabbling any longer. I’m fully invested.

Anothernamechane · 01/01/2025 11:19

Complete a professional qualification I started in September and widen my skillset. My company has just been taken over and my job is probably safe for the next 18 months but trying to redundancy proof myself.

Spend less time in my phone.

bergamotvetiverthyme · 01/01/2025 11:20

Replace the stairs/landing carpet which we've said we'd do since buying our house ten years ago.

Choose what colour I want to paint front of house and finally paint it as it's been left unpainted rendor for four years

@Lemonyfuckit I've been thinking about trying a new approach to goals since listening to an episode of the podcast Feel Better, Live More where the guest (can't remember who he was!) spoke about the freedom we have to test approaches on ourselves, note the effects and keep what works for us. That there is no one size fits all solution that people can just follow a proscribed plan to 'be better' or improve our health.

For each month I'm interested to see what resources I can access (books, pods, websites) that will help me learn about the approach and how I can maximise the benefits. I'll also benefit from learning new things at the same time as trying my experiments.

Good luck to everyone in working towards your goals this year

UtterlyOtterly · 01/01/2025 11:42

Cornecopia It will be a GCSE in a subject I did not study at school. I have largely been teaching myself and will take it as a private candidate at a secondary school which allows this for a charge.

CoolPlayer · 01/01/2025 11:52

Continue working on my mental health and get back in to work x

DaphneduM · 01/01/2025 12:03

Carry on supporting my daughter and son-in-law with my beautiful little grandchildren
Carry on saving
Definitely shop my wardrobe and stop impulse buys, particularly from Vinted - they mount up financially even though they're cheap individually
Dig out a new border in my garden and plant with autumn flowering perennials to extend the flowing season (asters and chrysanthemums)
Carry on enjoying my time with my husband in our retirement
Hope to see some friends who live more distant this year - must make more effort on this
Try and stay calm when challenges arrive and not over-react in an impulsive way - can be guilty with that!

Get a new job. I’ve been looking for a year, the roles I want don’t come up that often and I’ve come second twice.

Improve my fitness levels after an injury and lose some weight. I’ve started already, starting small so I don’t hurt myself, currently watching Gavin and Stacey from the beginning, an episode a day on my indoor bike.

needhelpwiththisplease · 01/01/2025 12:58

Just to try and get healthy
Loose weight
Eat better
Move more
Focus on me and my needs.
Take better care of myself

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 01/01/2025 13:08

Get to the end of it in one piece, the same as last year and the year before.

IceIceBabyBump · 01/01/2025 13:09

> Better time management and protection at work.

> Read 50 books.

> Start driving lessons.

> 50kg deadlift by April, then go from there.

> One month filly vegetarian.

> One month with no UPFs.

> Force the dog into at least one hour-long dog per week.

> Try out yoga.

anicecuppateaa · 01/01/2025 13:11

Lose weight and cut UPF as much as possible. Resume reformer pilates. Breathe and live more in the moment. Have a discussion with DH about one more baby….and maybe make that happen.
