Pickled walnuts. Where are my people?

Thanks to my late Dad, I was introduced to Opie's Pickled Walnuts at a young age, and I bloody love them (just finished off a plate of Stilton & PW). I managed to get hold of the port version this year - only the second time I've found them, and they're even nicer than the original. However - I've never met another person, in all my 60+ years, who likes them (other than Dad, of course), and most people seem unaware of their existence. So - where are you, my fellow pickled walnut fans? There must be other people buying them, or else they wouldn't be made/sold!

I'd like to join your Club. I've got a jar from Sainsbury's in my cupboard. Where did you get the port ones?

I got them here - but I'm in Ireland. I found them in the UK about 6 years ago, but can't remember where - sorry!

I am so glad I posted about the glory of PW - wonderful to find my people!

Fortunes used to make a pickled walnut chutney. Divine. They discontinued it 🥹🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲

Is it true that they are pickled in the shell?

Look up a recipe for how to make them from scratch. You use the whole walnut, but long before it's had time to develop into a nut with a shell around it. When they have been taken at the right stage they will be green and oval and when they've been pickled they'll be black and oval and not crunchy. Now I'm going to google how to make them from scratch. I think pricking them all over and drying them on a big plate exposed to the air, and salt, might have something to do with it. It's easier to stand on tiptoe and reach up to that shelf that has pickled lemons and baby gherkins et cetera, on it.

Adore them and they are not just for Christmas but I often do buy them for Christmas only not this year.

One jar every year here too! Lovely with cheese and pickle...we only eat at Christmas though . Strictly a festive treat!

I love pickled walnuts! I found a massive tree in the park here and I make a huge amount every year to last through to the next. They're lovely in a steak and kidney pie.
