Hope everybody's had a good Christmas and eaten some delicious food, but what's the best thing you have eaten?

My roast potatoes on Christmas day were absolutely perfect, I'm still dreaming of them now! 😆

It was as our 30th wedding anniversary yesterday and we went out for a very fancy tasting menu with paired wines.

Every morsel was delicious.

Happy Anniversary @weegiemum !!
🍾🥂💐💕

Use the right potatoes!
King Eds are my preferred ones from supermarket.
I boil them until they're nearly disintegrated, pour into colander, let the steam dry off and rough up (toss them about in colander) any that are still whole and tip the lot (bits and all!) into a shallow roasting tray that has your fat of choice (it was butter with a glug of olive oil) that has been in the hot oven for about 5 mins.
Season then roast on high temp and don't shake the pan until you can see golden brown crispy edges.
Sooo good when all the star(ch)s align 😅
Deliciously fluffy inside but so crunchy on the outside!
Want some now.

Has to be dripping in our house, and then put them in the air fryer for a bit at the end - they'll take them to the next level.

My Christmas dinner as a whole was triumphant.

Goose fat crispy roasties and creamed leek gratin were the best bits....or maybe the sausagemeat stuffing balls!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 30/12/2024 16:07

My mums homemade stuffing is always my favourite part of the Christmas dinner, plus leftovers in a big baguette with chicken and cranberry sauce on Boxing Day.

For lunch today I had Tesco garlic crackers topped with Brie and red onion chutney which were delicious - I’ll def be going back for more!

GodDamnVampire · 30/12/2024 17:15

We're having steak tonight, seriously considering doing roast potatoes to go with it, instead of chips.

I made a lovely smokey veggie chili - it doesn't sound much but it was such comforting dish.

Unfortunately, I forgot to put it in the fridge overnight and had to bin it this morning 😕

ObieJoyful · 30/12/2024 17:20

Boxing Day bubble and squeak with a poached egg on top 😋.

Pancakeflipper · 30/12/2024 17:25

I very much enjoyed a cheese and mushroom quiche ( possibly aided with it being 24p reduced at supermarket) that was part of a buffet with lots of family yesterday.

And brandy cream on loads of raspberry and strawberries. I love brandy cream.
I may start petitioning for brandy cream to be available all year round.

mitogoshigg · 30/12/2024 17:26

Cooked a mean roast beef yesterday, definitely better than Christmas dinner (which my mum cooked) but I would never tell her Grin

Nessastats · 30/12/2024 17:34

A box of After 8s. My gran used to buy me a box every year at Christmas and she died 3 years ago just before Christmas. I haven't been able to even look at them since, but this year i decided it was time and i bought a box for myself. It was lovely to remember her while me and dcs ate them.

Rictasmorticia · 30/12/2024 17:37

An Almond Croissant shared over the phone with GD. She is 8 and got an IPad for Christmas . Since Christmas morning she has text me every day to wish me good morning. This morning she told me she had a croissant. This tempted me to go and get one too. Then we chatted over hot chocolate and croissants. This has opened up a great new chapter in my life as I previously only saw her in school holidays and some odd weekends.

MonopolyQueen · 30/12/2024 17:39

My home-made leek, shallot and potato soup hit the spot, mainly because I used up the double cream in it!

Even the kids liked it, and they don’t even like leeks usually!

OldTinHat · 30/12/2024 17:44

A Korean takeaway from a dark kitchen. Sooooo delicious.

Greenfinger555 · 30/12/2024 17:45

Roasted sprouts, butternut squash and feta. Delicious, and somewhat 'healthy!'

DrClaireMaitland · 30/12/2024 17:47

These dips are absolutely stupendous

Had some at work (school) before we broke up for Christmas
Bought some for myself and eked them out over four days - from Sainsbury's 😊

Chicken Jalfrezi from the take away near my In- Laws . The Butter Chicken was mind bindingly delicious as well. Don't do rice. Straight in with a naan or chapatti or roti.
It was an anniversary party and the take away catered for 49+ people.
I brought left overs home and had cold curry on hot buttered toast.

SwankyPants · 30/12/2024 17:51

Those that said stuffing could you share your recipes please?

BusyPoster · 30/12/2024 17:54

Day after Boxing Day dinner which was cheese, crackers, pickles, Pringles and nuts. It was one of those meals where every mouthful was mmmm, yum yum, this is so good.
Two days later I’m so over cheese and picky bits.

sellingupslow · 30/12/2024 18:03

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and have been struggling to eat anything

Today my mum cooked me the most amazing (family tradition) chicken and vermicelli soup and it has completely made my week!

ghostbusters · 30/12/2024 18:16

Other than the whole plate of my Christmas lunch, the best meal was chicken risotto I made on Boxing Day. The best lunch was oatcakes and some lovely soft creamy blue cheese. It's on offer in Morrison's so I've bought more as I ate about half the pack at the weekend (at one lunch sitting...).

Laiste · 30/12/2024 18:31

Buttered crumpets.

Sorry, sounds boring, but i bloody love them and haven't had any for months as i've been on a diet.

We had and still have loads of fancy food in the house - but none of it excites me more than the thought of crumpets for breakfast again tomorrow 😀

henlake7 · 30/12/2024 18:34

Nuts.
I just love a posh nut mix.

CMOTDibbler · 30/12/2024 18:43

Prawn cocktail with skinny fries. It was awesome

What’s a dark kitchen?

sounds like a dodgy under the radar someone’s gran in the back room job…

GiddyRobin · 30/12/2024 19:18

The cheeseboard on Christmas Day, hands down. I can't even remember what we had in there now it was that huge. Although my birthday breakfast of crumpets and Marmite on Boxing Day was definitely a close second - DH cooked them on the Aga and they were gorgeous.
