New Year’s Eve Plans?

Some years ago I would always make a big deal of NYE, either hosting/attending a party or going to a nightclub or in fancy dress round a local town. A large amount of alcohol involved! For several years now, DH & I have stayed at home. We bring the rabbits in overnight because of the fireworks. I used to have wine & a bottle of sparkling wine or champagne but this year, I have non alcoholic fizz. We’re having steak, chips, peas & breaded garlic mushrooms for tea. DD16 will be at home & eating the same as us for a change. What about you guys?

We are having a couple of friends round, with a few bottles of bubbly and a small buffet. We will do our usual round of predictions (which I am rubbish at) and review last years. We celebrate New Years twice, once at 11pm (French New Year - with my Mum) and than the UK’s. It is quite a relaxed fun evening.

emmetgirl · 28/12/2024 20:50

I'll probably be in bed!
I'll have been at work all day and will only have had one day off in the previous 11 days.
I own a cafe bar so work for myself.

Anyone else?

A quiet evening in. I’m doing dry January so don’t want the temptation to have a drink after midnight.

WinterMorn · 28/12/2024 20:57

Nice meal planned, champagne, watch the fireworks and be in bed by 1am. I do miss my partying days but life has changed since then!

Paradoes · 28/12/2024 20:59

We usually light a few sparklers with the kids and out some music on

them once kids in bed - watch the fireworks on tv and chat / have drink

Goodtoknowhey · 28/12/2024 21:01

I used to love getting all dressed up & going to clubs etc. Now we have a 6 year old, so will probably do something in the daytime like the cinema and lunch at the beach. Later her two neighbour friends will come round and we’ll do board games (got the pie face one as a treat) and we’ll probably order takeaway pizza.
There are fireworks on the beach nearby but it’s trying to stay up until 12 and also don’t want to leave my doggy 😔

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/12/2024 21:03

Annual catch up with a friend who lives in Norfolk and her family and a mutual local friend and her family, food, drink, games, fireworks on Tv and goodnight

Whereland · 29/12/2024 07:31

We do the same every year, kids get to bed about 8.30 then we do a nice cheese board and some party food, some Prosecco and I fall asleep by 11 😂

07whatever · 29/12/2024 07:34

Normal night for me, kids to bed and probably take myself to be around 10pm

RampantIvy · 29/12/2024 07:38

DD had organised something with friends, but they have bailed. However she has a university friend travelling to visit us and we will do home made pizza, cocktails and games.
I don't really like new year TBH.

IggyAce · 29/12/2024 07:39

I’ll be in bed, I’m up at 4:45 for my shift on New Year’s Day.

QuotetheRaven · 29/12/2024 07:54

Always found it an anti climax- stay up, count down and..... it's 12:01, congrats. Now I'm just knackered.
Our pets panic with the fireworks also.

Crunchymum · 29/12/2024 09:26

Chinese for me and DP (I'll do oven pizza for the kids a bit earlier!)

We'll have a film earlier in the evening then a bit of music, a few party poppers (the kids love them!) and we'll watch the fireworks before going to bed. Older 2 will make it to Midnight so it will be kid friendly. I don't drink and DP will only have a few beers.

Even in the pre children / party years I've never had a brilliant NYE (I've had some fun ones of course but I find the night itself was always so overhyped!)

Timetotakeaction · 29/12/2024 09:37

thought we were doing something with friends as we're together most years unless one of us is away, but I find out last night they've made arrangements with other people. Not gonna lie it really hurts, feels like a loss. I know you may think it's dramatic but I lost my parents and a sister in the past few years and 2 longterm so called friends who have just literally dropped me, so this has really hit me hard. Not sure what we're gonna do, just feel so incredibly lonely.

It sucks doesn't it? This is what happened to DD. Fortunately her best friend from uni is travelling hundreds of miles to visit just for new year.

piscofrisco · 29/12/2024 10:14

Going out for a late lunch/very early dinner and drinks, back by about 8, more drinks on the sofa, watch the fireworks, go to bed. Just DH and I and that's lovely to me. I've done the big new years eves (boats on the Thames, clubbing, parties, etc etc), now I don't think I could be bothered with much of that. I used to love it and was most aggrieved that I couldn't go out the one when dd1 was new born (she was 5 days old at the time Confused)-now I can't think of much I'd rather do less!

Mydogisamassivetwat · 29/12/2024 10:17

The last time I went out on NYE was 1998, I was 18.

I’m 45 in a couple of weeks. I wish I’d had some friends to go out with! I mean, I have had friends over the years, but they always have plans with family or long standing friends.

shellyleppard · 29/12/2024 10:19

I'm having the Christmas dinner i didn't cook as I was away looking after my dad. Hospital restaurant did a pretty good one though

New Year’s Eve Plans?
MsSquiz · 29/12/2024 10:23

We have 2 girls, 5 and 2.5 so we go out for an early dinner at our favourite restaurant around 5pm, come home, bath and bed for the girls by 7pm.

DH and I will have a few drinks while watching tv, I'll be in bed by 10:30, DH might stay up.

New Year's Day, we walk into the village to watch the wheelbarrow race and get sausage sandwiches from the pub!

Natsku · 29/12/2024 10:23

Doing what we always do. Stay home, do the yearly questionnaire with the children (same questions each year about their lives and friends and likes and dislikes, to compare the answers from year to year), friend comes round and we all play board games. Set off a few fireworks, neighbours will probably come to the watch like they did last year. Children stay up until midnight (well DD will probably stay up until morning as she's turned nocturnal these holidays) and I'll have some drinks.
Might do some molybdomancy with little tin horseshoes, as per tradition.

Simonjt · 29/12/2024 10:25

We’re going away (not far though!), we’ve booked a night in a cottage that has its own jetty, so unless the weather is bad we’ll take a boat out to watch the fireworks.

RampantIvy · 29/12/2024 11:01

I hope your dad is OK @shellyleppard Flowers

shellyleppard · 29/12/2024 11:25

@RampantIvy he's still in hospital but getting stronger day by day. Thank you for your lovely comment 🤗
