What are you going to do with your Christmas Day food leftovers?

Assuming you have any, of course. Leftover roast potatoes are quite rare, I gather, but mash and other vegetables often end up as bubble and squeak.

The leftovers from the Buffett tea will be put out at lunchtime, everyone can grave at it for the afternoon. We have enough Christmas dinner left to feed everyone again tonight, we only have roast turkey etc once a year so we are all looking forward to it.

MollyRover · 26/12/2024 10:21

Most of the leftover turkey and all of the ham bagged up and in the freezer, we use it as a pizza topping over the next few months, delicious!
Used all the leftover veg/ potato/ stuffing which wasn't much for bubble and squeak this morning.
Had mince pies for elevenses
Kept some turkey for dinner/ sandwiches this evening.
We're out for lunch today so wanted to make sure everything was saved/ used/ not wasted so I was mindful of not making too much. Will definitely try to do the same in future!

shakeitoffsis · 26/12/2024 10:22

I'm going to have the most epic bubble and squeak with piles of mint sauce

Hot turkey sandwiches!

VelvetWildflower · 26/12/2024 10:23

Bubble and squeak with additional yorkshires today.

Honestly, it's our favourite part 😅

Mashroom · 26/12/2024 10:23

Only have meat and stuffing left over but I’ll use these today and tomorrow- dh likes a spud dinner so that’s what we will do (similar to Christmas Day dinners today and tomorrow) I might make curries if meat left for ds as I make little tubs of these for him after school as it is with chicken fillets

Mashroom · 26/12/2024 10:25

Bubble and squeak sounds delicious 🥔 🌱

WillowTit · 26/12/2024 10:25

i expect we will manage cold roast potatoes
handful of sprouts, parsnips, swedes, into a lovely soup
no carcass as a crown
ham and turkey sandwiches, curry, pasta dishes, simple

Nannyfannybanny · 26/12/2024 10:26

Dogs enjoying the gammon (I had a nut roast with brie centre melt) I love bubble and squeak, bit of Piccalilli. DH will have gammon and chips. Didn't open Christmas pudding, had chocolate gateaux. Gave DS leftovers to take home. DH cooked, I don't have leftovers when I cook.

RudolfIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/12/2024 10:27

We had venison here (apologies to my name sake), so I’ll make a hunter’s pie. All the leftover veg that the kids claim they don’t like will get hidden in with the mince, it’ll use up the leftover gravy, and the leftover roasties (because we do have a few, amazingly) I’ll slice up and use as the topping as DH doesn’t like mash.

flubuggy · 26/12/2024 10:29

I just came on to see if there was a thread on this!

I'm after some new leftover recipes....in the past I've done curry, Jamie Oliver's Turkey chilli (good) and Turkey/ham/leek pie.

I'm looking for something new...I've got loads of Turkey, some ham, and stuffing balls. Lots of cheese. Sadly no spuds or greens left otherwise bubble n squeak would be up there as top choice.

ghostbusters · 26/12/2024 10:30

Well, the leftover turkey will be going in the bin as I came down this morning to discover we had left the turkey and gammon out after lunch yesterday. So annoying!
We don't have much else left over, some sprouts and roast potatoes which will be reheated for dinner tonight, I think.

unsync · 26/12/2024 10:44

I forgot the sprouts again. So they'll be going on the compost, unless the pigeons want them.

Doggymummar · 26/12/2024 10:45

I did double veg so we just have to warm it up today. The carcasses went out for the fox last night but he didn't eat much. I'll give it another go tonight.

tigger1001 · 26/12/2024 10:53

Love leftovers. Always make enough to have leftovers for a couple of days Will be having turkey sandwiches later. And the rest will get eaten tomorrow. Won't be any waste.

TheTecknician · 26/12/2024 11:05

One year my parents were hosting a few of their grandchildren on Boxing Day. Mum coarsely chopped up some leftover sausages, vegetables, stuffing etc and reheated ìt all in a wok, generously lined with butter. It was surprisingly good, as leftovers often are.

My mum had lunch with us and took enough home to freeze a couple more meals

My husband is currently organising a food parcel for an elderly friend who went to a vegetarian lunch yesterday (she’s not veggie but the hosts are). When he saw her a few days ago she said that she would miss the turkey and trimmings, so he’ll deliver a plated meal for her later.

Anything else we’ll finish or freeze.

Jeezitneverends · 26/12/2024 11:42

Round 2 😂…we had beef wellington and gammon, so absolutely not a hardship to do it all again

HollyChristmas · 26/12/2024 11:46

Didn't use the cauliflower , so have just steamed it , and will make a cheese sauce and have a cauli cheese with leftover roast potatoes & parsnips . Didn't have the Christmas pud yesterday , so might have that as well .

Katy232425 · 26/12/2024 12:21

We don’t have leftover cooked veg, I cook only as much as will get eaten. There’s half bags of raw carrots, parsnips, potatoes etc but they’ll just be used as part of a cottage pie at the weekend.

There’s half a roast chicken and some stuffing left, so that with cranberry sauce will make sandwiches this evening. The extra cheese will go into a macaroni cheese bake tomorrow along with any bacon that hasn’t been eaten by then. That’s it. I am not a fan of leftovers so I try not to have too much to start with.

TheTecknician · 26/12/2024 13:23

I have half a large lasagne in the freezer from yesterday. No hurry to finish it so might be the first week of 25 before I get to it.

We've just had bubble and squeak for breakfast with sausage, cold cuts, egg and baked beans as is our Boxing Day family tradition for as long as I can remember.

boatyardblues · 26/12/2024 13:39

Eat them for lunch? Doesn’t everyone else.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 26/12/2024 13:40

Eat them!

Decafflatteplease · 26/12/2024 13:42

Christmas dinner take 2 here today surely!

We have leftovers of everything apart from Yorkshire's so I'll portion everyone up a plate this evening, microwave then it's done! Easy!

Tomorrow is bubble and squeak.

We still have a freezer full of party food which will become part of meals over the next few days or so.

And enough cheese to sink a ship!
