For me it’s how disgusting it is to wash dishes in a sink or basin full of water. It turns my stomach a bit. The dishes have to be washed in fresh, running water.

Controversial, but topical……

Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.

I’ll die on that hill.

It’s as much a Christmas movie as Is A Wonderful Life, where the poor guy wants to kill himself for half the movie, it’s miserable as sin.

SleepyHippy3 · 25/12/2024 08:30

All religions are man made, and they have caused a lot of suffering and division, and they are bad for women. Being told that a woman and man are seen as equal, in the eyes of god, but a woman’s role is seen as being a baby making machine, and having to bow down to her husband and being subservient to him, is not equality. It never will be, no matter how much the men running this planet try and convince women that it is equality and „”what god wants”. Its not, It’s dangerous nonsense.

Being single is great. Being in a not good relationship isn’t worth it.

Amen to that.

Gender is a man-made concept and sex change is not possible (not theoretically, nor physically).

It always amazes me how many people actually do disagree with this. Although I have no issue with how anyone chooses to dress or live their life.

Same as people who believe the earth is flat.

There are just some "facts" you can't believe your way out of!

Superworm24 · 25/12/2024 08:37

Rights and responsibilities should go hand in hand.

And in the same vein, responsibilities are important for mental health. Constantly infantilising people isn't good for anyone.

Yes! Poor old George.

I do find it hilarious that the worst possible thing in a world that didn't have him in it, the thing he really wouldn't like (even after discovering his brother was dead), was that Mary being a spinster and librarian. 😂

Being single is better than being in a crap or toxic relationship.

Being in a good relationship is better than being single.

Buying a home/being a homeowner is overrated, and often bloody hard work.

Petrol cars will always be superior to electric cars - and electric cars are a little bit shit.

Smart meters are shit.

No-one is truly happy fat. (And the vast majority of people look better slimmer/not fat.)

Money DOES make you happier.

Edited

You think it's overrated to be living rent / mortgage free when you're retired ?

Really?

My Ds who is autistic has NEVER got into trouble in his life. He's the easiest person I've ever met to be around.

Or maybe I did parent the autistic into him and you're complementing how much of a good job I did to parent it into him?

Or he has a neuro genetic condition 🤔

Most of the people who say Be Kind are absolute dick heads, Its ok not to care less and not be kind to idiots who demand it.
There is and never will be any equality. We are all out for ourselves at the end of the day. It is survival of the fittest.
The NHS is crap and needs ending

Marriage should be like a contract which doesnt auto renew each year.If it doesnt work get out with no penalties, nothing should be for life.
To have kids you should take an exam,be open to financial checks and mental health assessments before you are allowed to progress to actually have one

That working extra hours, to get more money, to buy more stuff, that you don't need, to impress people you don't even like, will never make you happy and fulfilled.

Having watched it for the first time last night...The Grinch is an absolute load of crap.
HOW has it spawned so much merchandise and so many devotees?
It's awful.

Stay Another Day by East 17 is NOT a Christmas song. It just has snow in the music video.

Agree with PP re: gentle parenting raising brats.

Grown men on electric scooters are just plain wrong.

Not every human emotion is due to mental health problems.

E17 also had fur trimmed puffa jackets in white and church bells…..that’s a Christmas combo

AllPlayedOut · 25/12/2024 08:53

(Exceptional circumstances asides) That there is no excuse for buying from a breeder for a dog and even less for a cat.(This applies to other species too) There are far too many unwanted and neglected animals out there and far too many animals generally and by buying from a breeder you are contributing to the misery and premature deaths of so many animals not to mention encouraging the breeding and exploitation of animals with all the problems that the industry causes from torture breeding to breeds that even though they appear outwardly healthy suffer a multitude of health problems and terrible treatment of their breeding animals. The whole industry is exploitative and cruel and it should be mandatory to have your dog neutered unless there are medical issues.

And yes this applies even if the shelter wouldn’t give you a dog(Often with reason).

Agree. I had a difficult realisation that isolating myself because I felt anxious, ended up magnifying the problem and making it much harder when I did have to go out, or have a difficult conversation, or listen to constructive feedback. Having to accept that I had to try and help myself and that doing so would not be all that fun, was really hard.

Avoidance is not always healthy - and there are basic things that most people should be able to do without panicking, like answering the phone when it's a stranger, or speaking up if there's a problem or they are unhappy. I've spent the last year working on this and it's been pretty crappy at times but it's getting better. I am a naturally anxious over-thinker anyway, but it now feels like something I can manage - whereas before, it got to the stage where an everyday setback was like an emotional catastrophe.

That said, I really dislike the use of "resilience" as a criticism. Yes it's important, but it's also not something that everyone comes by naturally, and it doesn't materialise overnight.
