Aargh, just thrown up in a restaurant

I feel so embarrassed.

Got something caught in my throat which made me cough uncontrollably and I ended up being sick. Caught it in my napkin then managed to get myself to the loos, but threw up a bit on the floor and the door when the coughing started again. Also on my jacket. Urgh. Horrendous.

Obviously I cleaned up after myself. Not sure whether anybody noticed - certainly no-one came to see if I was ok while I was choking to death at the table.

Just looking for sympathy, I guess...

Oh, I hadn't been drinking at all, and it's definitely not a virus (no nausea).

As a fairly new driver aged 18, I was driving through a town when I started feeling really sick. I panicked a bit and pulled up outside a row of terraced houses, before vomiting rather violently and repeatedly on the side of the road, behind the car. It took the wind right out of me and I had to sit on the kerb for a while to get my legs back. A kindly looking and very elderly lady came out of the house I had pulled up outside. I thought she was going to offer me a tissue, some water or even just a few words of sympathy - I felt so ill and really, really wanted my Mum at that moment - she was a welcome sight.

But no, she called me a filthy, disgusting bitch and told me to fuck off and get some water to clear that god-awful mess up. Quite literally those words!

It turned out to be salmonella - confirmed when about 80% of guests at a christening my family had been to the day before all became very unwell. Turns out fresh salmon doesn't stay fresh for very long at a buffet table.

I never forgot that woman and the language that was so at odds with the wrinkles on her face and her white hair 😆

What a horrid old moo! She sounds so lovely and sympathetic...! Some people really have no empathy whatsoever 😕 🙄 I'm sorry she was so unkind to you.

I've thrown up in my hands. And then had to carry it to the loo 😩

And ... drum roll .... i've been sick on a fox!
I was sitting on the back bumper of my BFs car, with my eyes shut, in the early hours of the morning, feeling really rough. It was quite countrysidey.

I threw up a bit and opened my eyes and there was a big fox right there by my knee and i'd been sick on his foot. He just stood there and looked at me for a bit. And i just looked back thinking 'Bless! A lovely fox! And ... i've just been sick on him!' 😳
Very odd moment.

Oh you must win every 'tell us an interesting fact about yourself' corporate icebreaker!!

Something similar happened to me I came over all dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out and then started throwing up. I know how you feel it's mortifying but medical things probably happen all the time in restaurants and we only really notice when it's happening to us

Sounds similar to what my mum had one time-she was sick in a restaurant then passed out, it's called vasovagal syncope caused by a large meal and then standing up too quick. Her friends called an ambulance because she'd passed out, luckily she'd about recovered by the time they arrived but I think they actually worried she was at deaths door for a few mins.

I was violently sick in the passenger seat of my own car - and wet myself at the same time after the AstraZeneca jab… it was out of the blue and I was covered in it! I feel for you, OP, anyone who looks at you with disgust jus5 hasn5 had it happen to them yet!

Endofyear · 24/12/2024 22:35

Please don't feel embarrassed, it's a horrible thing to have happened to you but we're all human! I once threw up in my bin at work (pregnant) and I also threw up on the bus with morning sickness too. Most people would just feel sympathy for you, if they even noticed.

That's pretty poor if no one came to check you were OK when you were coughing, choking on food can be very serious and the staff should have a first aider. When this happened they called an ambulance and took me to hospital , told me to check for foy bleeding or fever in case I aspirated and caught a chest infection.

If you feel you are choking, don't be embarrassed and don't minimize it. It can kill you if someone doesn't intervene with a heavy slap on the back or a bear hug under your ribs. With little children, pick them up by the legs so they are upside down and slap their backs. Having the same passage to eat with and breath with is a bit of a design fault.

I had really bad pregnancy sickness; I'd lost weight between my booking appointment and the 12 week check and so my weight was being monitored.

DSIL (DH younger sister) invited DH and me to her birthday dinner in a restaurant. I sent my apologies and said DH would go on his own, but SIL took the huff and DH asked me to go, rather than upset DSIL.

Half way through the meal I realised I was going to be sick. I clamped my hand over my mouth and stood up. DSIL grabbed my arm and told me to sit down. And then vomit started trickling out of my nostrils.

Everyone round the table looked at me in horror, DSIL let go, I ran to the Ladies but all the cubicles were occupied so I threw up into a sink.

The restaurant were really nice about it, but because there was vomit in the sink, on the floor and on the sink splashback they had to close the ladies toilets while they cleaned up.

The birthday meal was ruined, as the vomit from my nostrils had put everyone off their food.

I blame DH. It turned out that DSIL had been hurt by me sending apologies because she "knew" that pregnancy sickness happens only in the mornings ("That's why it's called morning sickness") and she "knew" that I wouldn't be nauseous at her birthday dinner because it was in the evening. DH actually knew that I was throwing up all day, and he still pressurised me into going.

Went to a Travis concert with my DP some years ago now, we got the bus into the city instead of driving, I felt fine when we left home but just as it was starting I suddenly came down with the most violent stomach bug I've ever had. Ran out and was sick in a bin, then managed to get to the toilets but there were none free so ended up being sick on the floor. DP had to ring his mum who was babysitting DS and get him out of bed to rescue us, had to walk through the city to meet her whilst throwing up regularly, most embarrassing moment ever, and I have never lived it down!

I vomited in a bin twice when I got off the Harry Potter ride at Universal. Only just made it too. I bet they are stragically placed. My DC thought it was hilarious. I'm not good with anything that spins and obviously get broomstick sick!

Was it the hagrid one? It's notorious for causing vomiting!

Not sure whatever the ride in the LA universal is - it is puke inducing!

captainPugwashh · 24/12/2024 23:17

@Alpinesnoozer yes!! It's horrific!

Been sick outside a very nice restaurant, for my PIL anniversary. Suddenly felt very dizzy after eating. Not helped by idiot woman smoking outside in my vicinity who suddenly became concerned and moved closer, think that tipped me over the edge.
I've also had the runs at a funeral which was fun, had to skip the wake!
Happens to us all!

Exactly this happened to me on my birthday a couple of years ago. It was in the middle of a heatwave so it was about 30 degrees, no air con, I'd not drank much water all day, then went and had wine and a large meal. Started feeling dizzy, actually passed out, and then when I got myself back together and went outside, I threw up right outside. I haven't been back there yet, which is a shame because I used to go quite a lot, but it's just stuck in my memory.

Stupid I know, because everyone is sick sometimes!

I once decorated the floor of a supermarket cafe. I was pregnant and hunger was not good for me. It hadn't been a sickly pregnancy (I was more prone to faintness) and by the time I realised the danger signs, I didn't have have the time to work out what to do with my toddler to dash to the toilets.

The staff were quick at launching a clean-up. They were worried that I'd just super-spread a digestive bug, but I jauntily reassured them that I was just pregnant and now felt great 😂

About 6 months later I was in there with a really bad backache because I couldn't face cooking dinner. It had got worse gradually all day, but really ramped up while I was waiting for food... 6 hours later I was hugging a baby 😁
