Aargh, just thrown up in a restaurant

I feel so embarrassed.

Got something caught in my throat which made me cough uncontrollably and I ended up being sick. Caught it in my napkin then managed to get myself to the loos, but threw up a bit on the floor and the door when the coughing started again. Also on my jacket. Urgh. Horrendous.

Obviously I cleaned up after myself. Not sure whether anybody noticed - certainly no-one came to see if I was ok while I was choking to death at the table.

Just looking for sympathy, I guess...

Oh, I hadn't been drinking at all, and it's definitely not a virus (no nausea).

I was at a busy outdoor cafe, felt unwell, passed my baby to family friend (we were out together just us and the baby) and promptly vomited everywhere! The staff were super kind just appeared with a mop and dealt with it. I however still blush at the thought!

As a fairly new driver aged 18, I was driving through a town when I started feeling really sick. I panicked a bit and pulled up outside a row of terraced houses, before vomiting rather violently and repeatedly on the side of the road, behind the car. It took the wind right out of me and I had to sit on the kerb for a while to get my legs back. A kindly looking and very elderly lady came out of the house I had pulled up outside. I thought she was going to offer me a tissue, some water or even just a few words of sympathy - I felt so ill and really, really wanted my Mum at that moment - she was a welcome sight.

But no, she called me a filthy, disgusting bitch and told me to fuck off and get some water to clear that god-awful mess up. Quite literally those words!

It turned out to be salmonella - confirmed when about 80% of guests at a christening my family had been to the day before all became very unwell. Turns out fresh salmon doesn't stay fresh for very long at a buffet table.

I never forgot that woman and the language that was so at odds with the wrinkles on her face and her white hair 😆

Since we’re sharing mortifying vomiting stories to make the OP feel better: years ago I threw up on the platform of a tube station after taking the morning-after pill.

I'm totally fine now, other than horrifying flashbacks. I could actually breathe fine, just couldn't control the coughing. First time that's ever happened to me - and hopefully the last.

I wet myself in a pub once after a severe coughing fit so you are not alone OP 😩

I've thrown up in my hands. And then had to carry it to the loo 😩

And ... drum roll .... i've been sick on a fox!
I was sitting on the back bumper of my BFs car, with my eyes shut, in the early hours of the morning, feeling really rough. It was quite countrysidey.

I threw up a bit and opened my eyes and there was a big fox right there by my knee and i'd been sick on his foot. He just stood there and looked at me for a bit. And i just looked back thinking 'Bless! A lovely fox! And ... i've just been sick on him!' 😳
Very odd moment.

This story wins! Threw up on a FOX! 😆😆😆

Gemz1010 · 24/12/2024 21:27

Sorry Hun, it's mortifying at the time but remember everyone is sick at some points in their life and usually at the worst possible time.

Sending love

Blueberries7 · 24/12/2024 21:33

Been sick outside a very nice restaurant, for my PIL anniversary. Suddenly felt very dizzy after eating. Not helped by idiot woman smoking outside in my vicinity who suddenly became concerned and moved closer, think that tipped me over the edge.
I've also had the runs at a funeral which was fun, had to skip the wake!
Happens to us all!

DisabledDemon · 24/12/2024 21:36

I throw up if I cough uncontrollably - it’s awful. You have my absolute sympathy (I threw up in the raised planters of a very swish City consultancy - it’s so long ago now, I can admit to it).

Chatterboxy · 24/12/2024 21:36

Don’t be embarrassed!
I was in the earstages of pregnancy with my first, my in-laws took us out for dinner, got half way through the desert & out of no where I started throwing up 🤮 and it didn’t stop! So embarrassed, we left by a side door!

TortieRage · 24/12/2024 21:38

You poor thing!

I get migraines that can come on really suddenly and make me sick, i was once sick into a half empty bag of m&s nuts on a train whilst walking down the aisle desperately trying to make it to the toilet (everyone politely averted their eyes) I was eating the nuts as I thought it might be a hunger triggered migraine.

Me too!!

I get sick if I have a acid reflux or a really strong smell.

It’s embarrassing when I’ve been drinking alcohol because people think I can’t handle my drink but it’s never because of that as I don’t drink much anymore.

You have my sympathies OP.
Don’t be embarrassed though because I doubt anyone noticed or will remember.

gillefc82 · 24/12/2024 21:43

Hope you’re feeling better now @Busabarf. I remember being 16, GCSE results day and celebrating with (an admittedly illegal) pint of lager and a Big Mac in an old man’s pub in my town centre. A mouthful of the burger went down the wrong hole, I choked and end up vomiting into the McDonald’s paper bag at the table, in the middle of the pub. Still cringe now thinking about it!

I was also told a story about a man (colleague of a colleague), a usually very well put together professional City gent working in a senior role. Went to some works do that ended up being an all dayer/into the evening session. He got absolutely blotto and was on the tube home when he realised he was going to be sick. So as not to draw attention or make a mes he decided his best option was to try and be discreet and direct the vomit down his suit sleeve…..only the sleeve he picked up with his left hand to be sick down wasn’t his right sleeve, but belonged to the bemused fellow commuter stood next to him in the busy carriage! Needless to say, he had lots of sincere apologising to do and a hefty dry cleaning bill to pay!

It could be worse 😘

KinderChocolate · 24/12/2024 21:45

I'll tell you about an embarrassing story I've read, well embarrassing for the person who wrote it.

When I was a teenager, I used to read a magazine called Shout, and in one of them, a girl wrote that she was desperate to get her ears pierced and her gran took her to get them pierced, and just after she got it done, she suddenly felt bad and she was sick all over the floor, she was very embarrassed.

DopeyS · 24/12/2024 21:47

I remember shopping in a covered shopping centre and started to feel really unwell out of nowhere. Felt really hot and sweaty and basically crouched outside a shop. It was an indoor shopping centre so panicked and tried to find the nearest place with a toilet which was a McDonald's. Walked through the entrance door and threw up all over the welcome mat in front of everyone sat eating. I was a teenager and it was so embarrassing.

I also threw up in the aisle on a 1940s weekend on a train. A lovely lady in a fur coat and dressed up with her hair all done came to check on me and I was mortified. Felt awful that evening though with a temp over 39C and was in an out of consciousness.

AshCrapp · 24/12/2024 21:49

The first time I went out after my baby was born to a nice curry house I suddenly felt ill, walked outside and was massively sick right by the door. It was awful. The staff had to come out and clean it with a big bucket with me in tears saying I was so sorry, I'm not drunk and don't feel ill. Had to go back in and tell everyone that I had to go home as had just thrown up! So embarrassing.

BeAzureAnt · 24/12/2024 21:51

I got heat stroke at the cricket and threw up in a bin outside the stands. They had a tea station with pitchers of milk, and I drank a cup of milk and recovered in the shade. I was pretty mortified, as I think people thought I had been drinking. Nope, nothing but sparkling water…I just got overheated. @Busabarf all solidarity to you. It happens to all of us at some point.

AshCrapp · 24/12/2024 21:52

Oh also once I was looking around a university when I suddenly felt really sick. I was in the library of an old college, it was like a maze. I ran off trying to find a bathroom, finally spotted one hidden by a bookshelf, opened the door to find a disused toilet and a load of storage junk. Regret to say that I threw up in the disused toilet, and then walked back out and left, without saying a word. Obviously awful and I'd never do that now, but at the time it felt too awful to go and find someone and admit it. I was also scared I was going to stat throwing up again! Spent the train ride back trying to figure out if they would trace it back to me and reject my application....

Hskatkat · 24/12/2024 21:52

I threw up on a customer, busy busy pub, literally at capacity .
I had a migraine and I think allergic to their perfume.
Was like time stood still then went really fast. This was years ago and I still see the person randomly. 😳

eastcoasterly · 24/12/2024 21:53

Lots of sympathy OP and a hand hold too. I hope you're ok. If it helps you feel less embarrassed, I once violently threw up in the first week of a brand new job! Halfway through day 3 of training, popped to the loo and out of nowhere projectile vomited over the floor, the doors, the sinks, the loo, myself... and then in walked a very sweet colleague who cleaned up after me. I still feel mortified when I think of that and it was 20 years ago! So please take heart, these things happen. Big hug to you and wishing you a lovely Christmas tomorrow Flowers

Nextyearhopes · 24/12/2024 21:59

Poor poor you. I hope you are ok OP.

gillefc82 · 24/12/2024 22:01

And then I’ve got a few stories about one of my best friends who hasn’t got the best tolerance for alcohol. Best one is from a heavy night out in her town, group of 6 of us staying at hers involving pre drinks and vodka jelly baby shots.

For the hostess it resulted in her being very sick in the toilet at the club. My best friend, who was pregnant so not drinking that night, volunteered to take her home in a taxi.

Mid way through the journey, friend 1 announces she’s going to be sick. Best friend asks taxi driver to pull over to the side of the road, which happened to be at a bus stop where a young girl was waiting for a taxi. When they pulled up she’s assumed taxi is stopping for her, so walked to the door which was promptly flung open so my friend could be sick. Violently. All over this poor girl’s shoes.

And believe it or not, this isn’t the craziest or funniest story to come out of that night! 😂

motelhotel · 24/12/2024 22:02

Something similar happened to me I came over all dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out and then started throwing up. I know how you feel it's mortifying but medical things probably happen all the time in restaurants and we only really notice when it's happening to us

Drfosters · 24/12/2024 22:06

not thrown up in a restaurant but did throw up at a party at someone’s house. I hadn’t had anything to drink. Was sudden onset norovirus. No warning. I had to lie down in their bedroom. I spent every second going ‘I’m not pregnant!’ As I am sure that is what everyone thought. I was so embarrassed. Had to be driven home lying on the backseat of the car.
