Morrisons have delivered my Christmas pork with use by date of 24th.😂
Any ideas what I can do?

I tried to get a refund but there was no option for a short date.

Like pp I would cook today, slice and store in the fridge in a dish covered in gravy.
you can reheat tomorrow and it won’t be dry

So now I'm thinking to do this. Bloody Morrisons.

I'd be expecting a refund!

One day will be fine, it doesn't go off on the stroke of midnight
I would ask Morrisons to refund though

HippoStraw · 24/12/2024 10:44

I’d cook today and then heat up in the gravy. It’ll be nice!

ForReasonsUnknown · 24/12/2024 10:50

Those of you saying you’d demand a refund are a little bit ridiculous.

GogAndMagog · 24/12/2024 11:02

I'd freeze it now and defrost overnight.

PortiasBiscuit · 24/12/2024 11:03

It’ll be fine tomorrow

GameOfJones · 24/12/2024 11:07

It will be fine tomorrow, but I'm extra careful with pork (and chicken) so I would cook it today.

If you cook it today, slice it up and lay it in a tray. Pour over some gravy that's a bit more diluted than normal then leave it to cool, cover it and put it in the fridge.

Tomorrow you can heat it in the tray covered with foil in the oven. One less job to do tomorrow and it won't be dry if kept in and reheated in the gravy. I used to work in a posh hotel kitchen and this is how all of our meat was done.

I don't think anyone's used the word demand. More like request or ask. But why is it ridiculous? They've delivered something for full price that would be reduced in store due to expiring on the day so at the very least, OP should have the difference.

Away from Christmas (it might be a bit much for them to put 2 and 2 together and realise a meat joint delivered on Xmas eve would be for Christmas) it would be unreasonable to deliver something on day of expiry so I see no reason not to ask.

fairytailcat · 24/12/2024 11:09

Chill out

It's not going to turn poisonous in the space of a few hours

That sounds like the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard. And a far greater risk of food poisoning than just cooking tomorrow

Hmm where did she say it came today?

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 24/12/2024 11:16

@ForReasonsUnknown a wild guess that a thread started today probably happened today. She hasn't said it wasn't delivered today. Hmm back at you.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 24/12/2024 11:22

Marinate it overnight in the fridge ( red wine, olive oil, garlic, thyme and sage, tiny slash of vinegar.) turn it a few times before you go to bed , and then through the day.

pat dry and sear it on all sides before you cook it. It will be nicer than straight from the wrapper. Marination helps to preserve food .

Snowmenschilliballs · 24/12/2024 11:23

It'll be fine, but make sure you flag it up for a refund.

It's quite standard to request a refund with these issues. I've had half an Asda delivery refunded before for short dates (1 or 2 days) or poor quality goods. They didn't bat an eyelid at the request, it's something supermarkets deal with because the shopper has no choice in what turns up on their doorstep.

she could’ve only just started thinking about it hun considering today is the day she needs to use it 🙄 Jesus.

Again - it’s not said it’s come today. Could’ve been within the past few days. I believe Morrisons has a 3 day policy. So it will depend on when OP got the shop delivered.

Ok hun 🤣 well if she’s only started thinking about it today then it’s not Morrisons fault. And if it wasn’t delivered today/possibly yesterday at a stretch then OP is unreasonable for not planning or freezing. @Motherlandatemyhomework can you confirm?

HotCrossBunplease · 24/12/2024 11:33

“Christmas pork”? What now?

One day makes sod all difference though, it will be absolutely fine. They have to err on the side of caution with use by dates. Astonishing how many people think that food becomes toxic at one minute past midnight!

caringcarer · 24/12/2024 11:35

BaubleMania · 24/12/2024 09:40

I wouldn't cook it today and reheat. I'd take it out of the packaging and leave it on a plate in the fridge and cook as normal tomorrow.

It will be absolutely fine.

This.

Teenagerantruns · 24/12/2024 11:38

As a chef ld say just cook it tommorow, it's not going to go off at the stroke of midnight, if it smells OK it will be fine.

MonopolyQueen · 24/12/2024 11:38

Agree with remove from package, smell, if seems okay then pat dry, wrap in fresh foil and store back in fridge. Cook and use meat thermometer tomorrow.

What unnecessary stress!

Bumcake · 24/12/2024 11:40

Cook it tomorrow, nothing will happen to it at the stroke of midnight. Do contact them for a refund though.
