Would you say your children are the company you enjoy most in the world?

Genuinely curious. Or is it your partner? Or even someone else?

I’m quite surprised by the responses on this thread. You all would really choose to hang out with your children over your friends? My teens and I get on well, and I love the bones off them but for company I tend to look for people I have more in common with than 14 and 16 yr old boys 🤷‍♀️. My mum was always clear on the distinction between family and friends and I guess I’m the same. I think I’d be a bit worried if they wanted to hang around with me, and vice versa.

Maybe it's because I have girls so more in common with them (ie being a teen girl as I was once!) also neurodiverse family here so we all prefer home to anywhere else!

I also think that the boundaries between adult and child are so blurred these days. When I was young (I’m 52) the difference between adult interests and children’s interests was very clear. My mum did loads of crafty, reading type things with us, but that’s where it ended. We’d have family events - birthdays, Christmas etc (and even at these the kids were evicted to bugger off and amuse themselves till the food was served) but outside of them everyone pursued their own interests and did their own thing with friends of their age. Even things like adults being into Disney and Marvel is a big change. So I guess it’s easier for adults and children to spend leisure time together now.

Another aspect is not letting kids go out on their own so much these days. My mum had no interest in cycling for miles, constructing gang huts in the woods, building dams and swings, reading comics, putting on ‘shows’ 😂 etc etc. I did that with my sister, cousins and friends for hours every weekend and holidays.

Totally agree, some of the responses on here seem so ott and weird. You're literally probably 30/40 years older than your DC, how can you have much in common? My DH is fab as is my sister but my friends are invaluable too. I need them all in my life tbh.

Yes( no DP)
DS's are 30,27 and 23 now
It's rare to have them all under the same roof at the same time these days
We have been through difficult times as a family( one example being their Dad left one Christmas Day!) and they are all kind, funny and great conversationalists.
They are all protective of me too as I'm disabled and all would be here in a heartbeat if I needed them

I think I love them all the most out of everybody and enjoy their company and their wonderful personalities but obviously they are my children and I hold responsibility for caring for them etc. I have so many laughs with them but I think I enjoy spending general fun time with my husband as it's an equal relationship and also with my own best friends.

Yes and no. I love spending time with my kids and I have had a great day with them today, but a great day with them requires more effort on my part than a great day with my friends or DH.

Yes along with DH. We were all driving home last night singing Christmas carols and I thought nothing could possibly beat this.
