Would you say your children are the company you enjoy most in the world?

Genuinely curious. Or is it your partner? Or even someone else?

My children, and DH, are my favourite people in the world and I would choose them in the apocolypse, obviously. But no, I wouldn't say categorically that my children are the ones whose company I enjoy the most, or at least, not overall or all the time. There are absolutely times when their company is the best. But there are other moments were a day spent with a friend or an evening with DH is the best and there are lots of times when I actively choose to spend time with someone else because that's the company I want then.

Mintymatchmakerheaven · 23/12/2024 16:51

No. My dc are young adults. While i enjoy their company, i prefer the company of my friends. My dc are interesting, vibrant people, who i love dearly, but theres nearly a 40 year age gap!

menopausalfart · 23/12/2024 16:51

I prefer to be around my 3 DCs than anyone else in the world. They're such awesome company.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 23/12/2024 16:54

Yep, my young adult dd is definitely my favourite person in the world to spend time with. Love my DH to bits, but if I'm brutally honest, I think my closest female friend might pip him to second place! Grin

lightsandtunnels · 23/12/2024 17:01

Oh goodness! Love to spend time with DD as we are very close, also with DS though not as much in common but still very close though in different ways.
Always enjoy DHs company. I would say DH overall but I think that's because I know my DCs have partners of their own and they should be spending the most time with them (and wanting to of course!) and not me!

MaryGreenhill · 23/12/2024 17:06

Yes definitely, we know each other inside out and can be ourselves, no fakery , no lies , just honesty, kindness, fun and love.

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/12/2024 17:11

Good lord no!

Enko · 23/12/2024 17:13

My children and dh dd1s fiance, ds girlfriend and the dog

Mine are in their 20s and I still look at them and think. Yups these are my.most.favourite people in the world wheb we are together.

MissyB1 · 23/12/2024 17:19

It's varied at different stages of my life and theirs. Right now I prefer being with my friends.

museumum · 23/12/2024 17:54

I love my 11yr old and spending time with him but he’s 11! I can’t bare my soul to him (and nor should I). I would never burden him with my worries.
My dh is my first choice human for spending time with. But I don’t think it’s healthy to expect him to be my companion for all activities. I have friends I love to be with too, in other ways.

mitogoshigg · 23/12/2024 17:59

One of DD's is great company, the other not so much

Porkyporkchop · 23/12/2024 18:02

I love spending time with my girls but I need grown up chat too. I would struggle if it was just me and the kids all day everyday.

ginasevern · 23/12/2024 18:15

No. I enjoy my son's company but as a man who is 25 years younger than me we have completely different interests, cultural likes and memories etc. The only thing we share is DNA, family stories and a love of good food. When I was widowed so many people said that at least I had my son to go on holiday with (he isn't married by the way). I know they meant well but did they honestly think a much younger bloke who's a computer geek and sports fanatic would want to trek around with me for a fortnight!

SnoopysHoose · 23/12/2024 18:18

My DS25 is great company; we're very alike, my 3DDs all for different reasons and individually, all 3 is overwhelming.

pinkhousesarebest · 23/12/2024 18:28

I absolutely adore my young adults and am never happier than when we are all at home together and I am very comfortable with them. I do prefer the company of my dh - we have much more in common- ditto my friends. There is 40 years between my dc’s and I.

PaddingtonsDeathStare · 23/12/2024 18:31

Yes definitely and also my DH, closely followed by my mum and my siblings. I just wish we all got to be together more often but it's quite rare that we manage it as I live outside the UK. I also have a couple of close friends who I really treasure spending time with as we all live in different countries. They have known me longer than any of my other friends and being with them is just so easy and restful, as well as great fun. If I ever won the lottery I'd be sharing it with all of the above people and making sure we had more opportunities to be together.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 23/12/2024 18:31

My sister is that person for me.

mamaduckbone · 23/12/2024 18:33

That's a tricky question. My 15yo ds can be difficult company at the moment, but still I would say that I'd choose my Dh and dcs company over anyone else's. When everyone is relaxed, on holiday for example, we have the loveliest time.
Sometimes, I'd rather be with anyone else but them though!

Oblomov24 · 23/12/2024 18:34

No.
I prefer going on a long weekend to a European capital city with my 2 best mates.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 23/12/2024 18:39

Yes, DS is my favourite person in the world, I'd rather spend time with him than anyone else. BUT, I try to reign it in a bit because he's away at uni most of the time and obviously has lots of friends and a whole life away from me now he is older!

Toomanyvampires · 23/12/2024 18:46

Yes without question the funniest, coolest, brightest people I’ve ever met. Obviously we have the normal parent child relationship which gets tested, but honestly even though I have lots of friends and DH no one really compares to DC. They will obviously grow and move to their own families - which is what I want for them - but they will always be my favourite people and best companions.

Moier · 23/12/2024 18:46

Yes both my daughters and four Grandsons .
Then my Sister .
Very very close family .
( don't have a partner).. but even if l did they always did and would be top of list.

Bobbybobbins · 23/12/2024 18:46

No. Although I love them, both my DS have severe learning disabilities. I don't get much back from them (though they do lovely hugs).

NewName24 · 23/12/2024 18:50

leftorrightnow · 23/12/2024 16:32

Hmmm I think I enjoy different peoples company for different things!
DCs for snuggling up, reading stories w them and going on day trips, DH fahajn
for snuggling up and holidays and every day life, my girlfriends for chatting and talking, my mum also for chatting, my colleagues for professional discussions..

I Always love my DCs and DH and closest family the most, but doesn’t mean I always enjoy their company the most for every activity.
Discussing politics with a 7 year old or reading a bed time story to my DH (unless it’s a different kind, lol) isn’t much fun! Similarly, DH would rather be seen dead than in a spa, but I love nothing more than a spa day with girlfriends!

This.

Am surprised more haven't said so.
I don't rely on any particular individuals for company - it will depend what I'm doing as to who I most like to have with me.

Timetocheersme · 23/12/2024 18:51

I enjoy my own company best of all 😂 my ds a close second.
