Sainsbury's question...

MonkeyTennis34 · 23/12/2024 08:10

I was at Sainsbury's at 6am when it opened this morning and it was still incredibly busy.

I've decided I'm going to get a delivery next Christmas.

When do the delivery slots usually come out and do people get exactly what they've ordered?

I'll tell you tomorrow (my Sainsburys is coming then!)

I did actually go out at 7am this morning as I wanted to get turkey from M&S. M&S was pretty busy. No queues at tills but much busier than I'd expect. The Sainsburys carpark was already full.

cliffdiver · 23/12/2024 08:18

Same in my local Sainsbury’s.

The online pickers were also going round at 6am, and shelves were fully stocked, which bodes well for online delivery/pick up.

In my past experience, even at Christmas, Sainsbury’s give very few subs, and any subs are always sensible. The only thing is the veg isn’t always the best quality.

Namechange13101 · 23/12/2024 08:19

Had my Christmas delivery from Sainsbury’s at 7am this morning and only sub was orange flavoured nurofen instead of strawberry!

Boredlass · 23/12/2024 08:22

You get warning of when the slots will be available. I got mine no problem. My shop is coming later and only sage and lemons are not in it. No big deal and my DH is picking up the turkey at M & S just now so he is going to see if they have them available. Last year everything was there. There is not a hope in hell I’d do my shop in store. Ever.

HelenHywater · 23/12/2024 08:23

I actually think the shops might be emptier later on - everyone goes at 6am thinking they're getting in early!

I booked my slot a few weeks ago - it's coming today between 11-12. I've been notified of just one sub - my cranberry sauce! I'm not entirely sure how they managed to run out of cranberry sauce at 6am this morning!

KayVess · 23/12/2024 08:23

I got 5 subs. All sensible. Nothing missing. I’ve never had an issue with Sainsbury’s round our way

Therealmetherealme · 23/12/2024 08:46

Somebody's shop coming this evening. Receipt is already through and no substitutions.

I easily booked a slot back on November, there's plenty of warning when they are opening. I have a monthly pass which may make it easier. I've looked and there are still slots for in between Christmas and New Year this morning.

eklaljdj · 23/12/2024 08:49

The slots come out in November I think, if you're a delivery saver customer (you can sign up right before to be eligible). Mine is coming today and I have 3 subs, 2 are fine although I am pissed off they have subbed my 48 ferror rochers with one box of 24, Tesco would always ensure you had the same amount at least and would send 2 in this situation. I find their customer service shit also if something is wrong, but it's a million miles better than going in (I'm collecting avios atm otherwise I probably would go back to Tesco).

eklaljdj · 23/12/2024 08:49

Oh and yes way easier to book a sainsburys slot, no queues on the website like Tesco has.

Musicaltheatremum · 23/12/2024 09:09

Mine coming 2-3pm. No receipt yet but I'm in Scotland and there's alcohol in the order so it won't be processed until after 10am. My store is fabulous I rarely get substitutions and they're usually good. And it's 5 minutes walk away so I can get more stuff if I need to.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 23/12/2024 09:21

They give you warning if you have a regular delivery pass. I’ve had my slot since the beginning of November.

Mine is coming this morning and has 3 subs out of lots of items. One is they’ve sent Sainsbury’s asti instead of the branded stuff, the other is they didn’t have the smoked salmon patè I ordered, but I deliberately ordered an alternative in case (which they do have) and the other is they’ve sent McCain crispy chips instead of the Sainsbury’s ones I normally get.

And the best thing - it all only cost me £8.26 because I used the Nectar points I’ve been saving all year!

JingleB · 23/12/2024 09:24

No omissions or substitutions this time, and I booked early November.

ExquisiteDecorations · 23/12/2024 09:26

I think everyone must be going early. I went to ours at 8.15 today, car park had plenty of space, only moderately busy inside, good stocks of absolutely everything, lots of staff on hand, no queues.

MrsWhites · 23/12/2024 09:30

I think the slots for regular delivery customers came out in early November.

Mine has 2 subs - breakfast muffins for cheddar version and a Christmas table cloth subbed for a different Christmas table cloth.

Oh and they can’t deliver the Santa face charcuterie thing.

Much improved on my Asda click and collect from last year that had 40 subs!! Most of which were unsuitable and they claimed that I hadn’t returned to the click and collect staff so I had to fight for a week to get my money back!

Thank you for this!! Mine is booked for 10-11 today as well and was getting worried that I had had no email/receipt!!!

TheDandyLion · 23/12/2024 09:37

Everyone has the same idea going at the crack of dawn but the second or third hour after opening is quieter before the main rush throughout the day. The live tracker on google maps has been really handy to see how busy it is and when best to avoid.

throwaway25 · 23/12/2024 09:37

Mine is coming later and have just had the email to say the Christmas pudding has been substituted annoyingly. A few others that aren't that important, but that one is irritating as I now have to traipse around to find one. I should really have bought one in a much earlier delivery back in November, so probably a lesson to learn for next year!

tealandteal · 23/12/2024 09:40

We moved house and I wasn’t sure if the date until the week before. I booked the slots on Friday 13th. I got a slot on 20th with Tescos and 23rd with Sainsburys to bring all of our Christmas food and to stock the cupboards post move with flour etc. Both were big shops as I hadn’t bought any Christmas food at all or the usual stuff you keep in. I had one item unavailable- Christmas sprinkles and 3 substitutions which were reasonable- 2x smaller cream instead of one big one and a different flavour of crisps. So much easier than going in. I didn’t order the turkey from there however.

Huonneyywisshful · 23/12/2024 09:43

I binned Sainsburys due to far too many missing items and their quality. Their customer service after a delivery is also rubbish.

I’m now a devoted Ocado shopper. My Christmas order had no missing items. Their fresh stuff is excellent. It’s really easy to navigate their website and on the odd occasion something isn’t right it’s very easy to request a refund.

Wetcappuccino · 23/12/2024 10:03

We get a Sainsburys online delivery every week and pay for the free delivery pass. You get an email a couple of months before Christmas to let you know when the slots are going to be available to book. They go fast! The click and collect are usually available for a bit longer. Our subs etc are always reasonable - and if you get any veg that is on the turn you can get a refund online straight away.

MonkeyTennis34 · 23/12/2024 11:02

Thanks all.

I used to enjoy the 6am Christmas shop...

Not sure if it's menopausal but I felt really overwhelmed by the other customers and panicked that I wasn't going to get everything I needed this morning.
It was not pleasurable at all.

So when you book your slot in November, you don't actually stipulate what food you want? When do you order your food?

On a more positive note, I got a snow globe chocolate box from M and S afterwards...down from £15 to £5 with my Sparks card.

ElaborateCushion · 23/12/2024 11:11

I saw a TikTok yesterday where someone shared their Asda subs.

  • Ordered a pack of 12 mozarella sticks - received 1 pack of breaded chicken bites
  • Ordered 2 packs of 12 pigs in blankets - received 3 packs of breaded chicken bites
  • Ordered one pack of 12 chicken nugget Christmas trees - received 1 pack of breaded chicken bites!

Sounds like someone over ordered the breaded chicken bites at Asda!

Out of all the supermarkets I've done online shopping with, Ocado is the best for substitutions or lack thereof. I rarely get a sub at all as their stock systems are very good and all orders come out of a warehouse, rather than out of a store, where the pickers are vying with actual real life shoppers for the stock.

I didn't have a Christmas delivery but ordered two packs of pigs in blankets as part of my pre-Christmas delivery and received them. I tend to do my Christmas shop at least one week before Christmas and freeze whatever I can, or buy veg that's going to last. I can't be doing with the last minute rush and panic when it's all run out.

AnchorWHAT · 23/12/2024 11:16

Sainsbury's here is nearly always good, my shop due any minute, booked back in oct or nov cant remember but-as i have a delivery pass i get a good warning from them that slots are available when they first come out, think its about a week earlier than-to non pass holders. Only sub today is instead of 3 large egg boxes I'm getting 4 medium, result!

Snowangles · 23/12/2024 11:17

Op go late that's the trick!!

SJM1988 · 23/12/2024 11:21

Not Sainsburys but Asda was awful for Christmas delivery. One year I got no gammon or pigs in blankets. I stopped the year after that.

If you sign up for a delivery pass you get a warning and early booking access (like mid oct I think most places do now).

I now do the 5am shop at my local tesco (I did 6am at sainsburys 2 years ago). This morning the car park was nearly full when I left at 630am!!!
