Why do English people look German?

Why do some white English people (especially women not so much men) look so extremely German? Not French or Italian or Spanish but German.

This is not so much the case with Welsh or Irish or Scottish people.

For example, don’t you think Samantha Womack (who plays Ronnie Mitchell in Eastenders) looks extremely German?

Hat are you on about? English people and Germans look quite distinct. So much so I could pick out a lone German in an English line-up.

We went to Venice and saw my BILs in every local man we saw 😂 it was like a huge family reunion - absolutely uncanny!

Womack is an old north of England name, I don't think it's Polish as someone above said

Also styles of dress and mannerisms can be quite specific to a country so just by looking at someone you can tell they are French by the way they move & dress but it doesn’t mean there aren’t facial and feature similarities.

It looks like one of those names that has been shortened from a Polish surname.

It's eastern European or Russian. Her ancestors are probably from there

I appear to look German, based purely on the fact that multiple people have attempted to speak German to me when I’ve been in either London or a third country. But then my surname is possibly of German heritage, so presumably I have German ancestry. Common ancestry with modern German populations is not unusual in England!

All Germanic peoples look largely similar, thanks to thousands of years of trade, invasion, marriage and movement.

But not all Germans look the same, Northern Germans look very different to Bavarians and have different cultures too.

I have mixed Scottish/Eastern European/Irish heritage and can easily look like a pale skinned local in southern Europe or a very dark haired local in Northern Europe.

What does a German look like?

I would say she does look east European. Very broad term, I know, but great cheekbones.

There is a very English look that can look like you could be Dutch or northern German. People often assume my partner is Dutch or German. That dark blonde tan easily look - David Beckham/Teddy Sheringham kind of colouring. But not surprising really.

Then there’s the royal family!

Because we sort of are. They're our ancestors.
