DS8 will be tucking into hotdogs and potato waffles, while we're having our roast.

We're having a takeaway on Christmas day. This started the year we all had covid on Xmas day and nobody could be bothered to cook a roast that we wouldn't be able to taste anyway. We've done it every year since because it's so relaxing just watching our little one open his toys and not have worry about cooking and cleaning.

Love this! Do you have to order it on Christmas Eve, or is it somewhere you can order from on the actual day?

@Thorilicious we order on the day , we're in the middle of a big city so there's loads of local independent restaurants open for takeaway.

Takeaway here too. We’ve been having takeaway Indian food for so long now so it’s our traditional Christmas lunch. It’s fab, we set the table, get the crackers out, pour some wine and wait for the deliver guy to knock at the door with a huge feast! We always order way too much so we have plenty or leftovers to pick at on Boxing Day. Two plates and forks to wash up, and no cooking.

Spuck · 21/12/2024 22:31

Not sure how many others are with me on this but Chicken instead of Turkey.

We have Christmas Day pizza, made in the pizza oven. Cooks in 4 minutes and we can get on with the presents and chocolates.

(This year I'm going for a pear and blue cheese white pizza).

Aldi do a pigs in blankets one, it's nice

laughs4854 · 21/12/2024 22:52

We are doing homemade pizzas. Having a Christmas dinner the day before and after so seemed fairly ridiculous having the same thing three days in a row, particularly as youngest doesn't much like turkey and I'm vegetarian.

QwestSprout · 21/12/2024 22:54

Lasagne. I'm vegetarian, don't like the parts of a roast dinner that I can eat (which isn't much as I can't have potato), so I always cook Italian of some variety.

Maddy70 · 21/12/2024 22:56

We have a mixture of nationalities for Christmas lunch so they're all bringing something from their countries Christmas. It'll be lovely

sewingstockings · 21/12/2024 23:00

Roast lamb. Every year so traditional in our house. We still have pigs in blankets etc.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 21/12/2024 23:02

Wow I’m so envious of those with Indian Takeaways open Xmas day! We would 100% do this. I’m in rural East Anglia. So that’s definitely not an option ever for us !

We also have chicken instead of turkey. My mum makes a shepherds pie for my brothers girlfriend as she don’t like roasts.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 21/12/2024 23:48

Slow cooked beef instead of turkey, and a festive vegetarian Wellington. Sprout bruschetta starter.

onwardandupwards · 21/12/2024 23:54

Jacket potatoes with beans for dd, eldest ds wants plain pizza and youngest ds wants plain pasta and cheese ( all 3 are autistic) I will have cheese and tomato toasties with some soup! Our cheeseboard consists of cheddar cheese and Jacobs square crackers.

MaMoosie · 21/12/2024 23:56

We did Indian take away last year but it didn’t feel like Christmas so we’re not doing it again this year. We’re doing a roast but not turkey because no one actually likes turkey, they just pretend to like it once a year. We’re doing pork and beef.

We did this when the kids were young. No washing up or standing over a hot stove ! Just did what we wanted to do.

We're having beef alongside turkey. More meat for Christmas pie in the days after Christmas!

Smoked salmon, cream cheese, cucumber, decent pickles, cold meat and sauteed potatoes.

We have the "roast" on Xmas Eve.

echt · 22/12/2024 21:59

Completely non-traditional.

Mimosas

Oysters, prawns with Marie Rose mayonnaise, spud salad, rice salad, raspberry sorbet and chocolate sauce.

It'll be 30 degrees here, but to be fair if it was cold, I'd still do the same.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/12/2024 22:06

Very large chicken here too ( 4kg)
