Tricky cos I'm not sure if you've got Xmas bargains or Xmas ripoffs!

Have only read OP so now I'll see if there is a reply and how far off I am.

Oh I wasn't too far off.
I did tot up with Clubcard in mind (for the multiples of things), but had no idea about the turkey.

What a peach. I bet you are a laugh a minute around the dinner table. Or did I miss the title where it said please judge me on my Christmas shopping

Yes you did. It's right there, under OP's thread title but only visible to those who are pure and holy from eating food grown by virginal Tibetan nuns in the foothills of the Himalayas 😉

johnworf · 18/12/2024 13:02

Haha! Do Christmas your way and screw everyone else.

There's a lot on here who give Amanda from Motherland vibes. 😒

Absolutely. Of course I probably could have done it cheaper. But a while back I still would have got more for the price regardless of what I just bought.

And in my case I have done what works personally for me and my family. Which takes into account special needs /disability/mental Health etc.

I think in truth their shop probably looks like mine 🤣

not the frozen spuds. Never those. We have some choc tins.

I make my own cheesecake,, not through snobbery, just cuz I do a maltesers one and it’s lush lol.

Trumpton · 18/12/2024 13:14

I will go back and read replies but off the top of my head £100

I don't have a clue because I never buy shit like that. All those upfs. Yuk . . .

Have a day off fgs.

I try not to buy too many upfs, I literally have an app I scan my food with to make sure there’s no nasties in it and I grow my own veg but it’s Christmas 🎄⛄️ 🎅
OP didn’t ask for your judgement but I’m sure it made you feel better posting that judgemental shit so Merry Christmas anyway.

LittleTwiggy · 18/12/2024 13:31

5128gap · 18/12/2024 11:25

You've only yourself to blame OP. If you'd have spent last year turning your garden into an allotment and taking cookery classes, you'd have free organic veg and a home made dessert for 20 that cost nothing but the 'bits you keep in the larder' by now. Then you could have spent your entire budget on one enormous piece of Very High Quality meat. You should also have raised your DC to prefer nuts and tangerines over tins of chocolates. Make 2025 the year you do better!

Edited

😂 the thread needed this, thank you.

FWIW OP, I’d have been more than happy with your shop as a kid. It’s not Christmas without tucking into a good ol’ tub of chocs!

123teenagerfood · 18/12/2024 13:31

£80

My kids would kill me if I done a mumsnet Christmas food shop. ( not aimed at all mumsnet) 🤣

I’m assuming the celebration tubs are the ones that are roughly £6.

£80?

The choc will not be cheap

TiramisuCheesecake · 18/12/2024 12:18

Possibly - but I am a cheapskate and wouldn't buy branded Phillie, would buy the essentials range cream cheese and Aldi digestives. Couple of eggs, butter (won't use it all), flavouring. Not saying it's cheaper but it's certainly not loads more expensive.

Currently thinking of making a gingerbread cheesecake for christmas day.

I really think Philadelphia is the golden standard ,
it’s just one of Those desserts that require lots of one good thing . the rest can be shop own brand.

Ina Garten on one of her shows explained that it was the most expensive cake in her cafe because it required lots of cream cheese.

I knew the food snobs would be out on this thread as soon as I saw it and I was right - Merry Christmas you get a fridge - oops wrong thread. But the food snobs head over to the Christmas Fridge thread where you can lord your superiority over everyone with your organic sprouts and free range partridge when everyone shows off their packed fridges full of processed hams and cheese.

I understand what you're saying, but it is sad when parents demonstrate zero awareness of what they're feeding their children. And I don't mean for a few days over Christmas.

losingweightandgainingconfidence · 18/12/2024 13:48

@haveagoharry oh please

It's a few days. It's fine.

£70ish. Or over £100 if you forgot your club card!

Therealmetherealme · 18/12/2024 13:56

£70 ish. A few pound off for deals on the chocolates.

Another2Cats · 18/12/2024 13:56

TiramisuCheesecake · 18/12/2024 10:16

You could probably make a dessert cheaper than buying 4 separate boxes from the supermarket. Those sorts of things are never cheap and the shop bought ones are not good.

I seriously doubt that you could make it cheaper. The Tesco cheesecake is £2.25 with a clubcard and weighs 455g.

To make a similar cheesecake yourself, you're probably looking at a similar price once you add in all the fancy bits like raspberry and white chocolate.

The other ones are Ms Mollys and they are 85p for 375g

There is no way you are going to make a cheesecake for that much.

trivialMorning · 18/12/2024 13:57

I didn't think Aldi prices were too bad when I went in today - so hopefully you'll find the same.

However I still remember reeling at start of cost of living crisis popping in for a few bits for the teens day trip with school and it coming to £50 followed by years of endless price rises.
